***** The Official Galaxy Nexus Thread *****

Spent about an hour with my mates Nexus last night - it's really nice and love the look and design of the phone. The screen while on it's own, gorgeous, it didn't really have the impact I thought it would over my SGS2. I was expecting to be in awe with my jaw dropping, but I couldn't really see a great deal of extra benefit - I'm not saying I would want that screen though, just that I don't want it as much as I thought I would.

ICS is great and finally there is a stock and really smooth version of Android which looks and feels very polished. I wouldn't have liked my SGS2 nearly as much if it wasn't hardware accelerated.

The Nexus is great phone overall.

Ahh cheers, was a typo. I meant Unlock. I got it through O2 on there £10 a month for 2 year contract. I have been using my sim only T-Mobile sim card in it pretty much since a week after I got the phone. Leaving the O2 sim card for the parents.

T-Mobile sim works in my spare phone so it's not too bad, just an annoyance as I currently can't access my GalaxyNexus unless I pick up an 02 simcard.

Did the phone come unlocked or did you request the unlock code from O2?

I requested an unlock from 02 about two days after I received it through my door. They were very quick and a few days later it was unlocked.

I got emailed the unlock code which you enter when you put in a non-O2 sim. Even when I unlock the phone, it would re-lock itself sometimes when it reboots or if the phone crashes.

So just re-entering the code and it would unlock it again.

I've since had a replacement phone which came unlocked.

anyone else here with battery issues?

Since the 4.0.2 update mine looses 20% per hour, hard reset and started a fresh and its still the same. 'Android OS' is the culprit, tried turning lots off but still the same. Seems even when the phones screens off its still staying awake most of the time.

Lots of other people on the net reporting similar issues, its very frustrating!!

I don't have any battery issues at all, and I am on 4.0.2. With my recent usage mine has been going 2.5/three days between charges

Don't forget if youa re driving it is feasible the phone was dropping signal/picking it back up, so that would hammer the battery.

You need to show the battery stats before we can figure what's preventing your device from deep sleep. BetterbatteryStats is a good app for giving you info on whats draining your battery.

Look at the signal strength graph, if you see a lot of red. That will be sucking your battery like crazy. I lose signal on the underground for about 15 minutes and i notice a massive drop in my battery graph.

Had the phone since Thursday. Thrilled with it.

Protection:
At the moment the only protection I have for it is a sunglasses case that I'm pulling it in and out of to access. Not ideal. I tend to have my phone in my front jeans/trousers pocket so given its size, it would be a bit awkward to add any extra bulk. Pouches are probably the best bet, or a wallet-type thing. Have we had good experiences with those fitbags I saw over in the accessories thread?

I definitely want some kind of protection for the gorgeous screen, I've never bought or applied screen protectors before. Best brand? Tips?

I feel adjusted to Android from iOS now, and the phone feels very self reliant and separate from my Mac now. After getting iSyncr to work over wifi, I've got my selected music on there. I tried to use Winamp for Mac, but the app kept crashing when attempting a sync.

Apps:
Lightflow is great, but I've got a nagging feeling its draining my battery. The battery's lasting 10 hours with fairly brief and irregular use. It's reported as taking up 56mb of memory too. I like the function, but its a bit marginal as to whether it gets uninstalled or disabled. Have others had similar experiences?
Any.DO is very slick-looking and syncs with Google Tasks. Doesn't do hierarchical notes, yet, and can lack smoothness in animation.
AirDroid is brilliant. Can carry out various tasks on phone over wifi from in your computer's browser.
Pocket Casts is the best app I have found for podcasts.

I'm not quite sure what your saying. You got the code and then two days later the phone was unlocked? You should be entering a code yourself?

I brought the Phone from 02, the day after it's release, two days later I applied to get the unlock code so I could use my t-mobile sim in it. A couple of days after that I got the code and unlocked the phone. Which meant I was using my t-mobile sim card with the phone pretty much since release. Then out of the blue over friday night my phone decided it wasn't unlocked and would only accept the 02 simcard, so I had to explain to some baboon for ages about it just to get another unlock code. - Hope that clears it up, I was a bit sleepy when I replied before.

The unlock code will be the same, there is only 1 unlock code for your phone. The code is calculated using your IMEI.

You can get the phone unlock from a 3rd party unlocker and they still give you the same code you received the first time round.

What browser are people using?

I've been using Dolphin Mini for a while and I have notice recently a lot of the time that clicking links does not open the link and I have to long hold the link and click open.
