***** The Official Galaxy Nexus Thread *****

what i mean is that 4.0.4 has been released to a certain carrier in the states, yet we have to wait for Google to make it official for us. Why arent Google pushing these worldwide as soon as they can?

Ah, now I'm on my laptop I can type a little better.

It appears (post 5072 - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=21195244&postcount=5072) that 4.0.4 is available for the GNex. Not the GSM version, but still.

And, as you state earlier, 4.0.3 is out, but just not for the GNex.

So what I'm wondering is why Google aren't ensuring that their GNex is one of the first phones to get any of the latest updates to their ICS.

If the answer is a simple "they're haven't yet completed testing with the GNex" or whatever, then fair enough.

Not slating Google or anyone here, just asking out of curiosity.

It's like when the latest Ubuntu or Windows comes out; they don't say "oh it's out for any Dells, but HPs will have to wait a little longer".

Thank you. :p

This is why I got a Nexus as a Galaxy S II replacement -

  • Unmodified ICS that I don't have to wait for and future updates are very quick (not that I'm massively bothered about the latter)
  • I really don't like TouchWiz and think it makes the software feel cheap and nasty personally, while functionally it's fairly good
  • I really like the soap bar design of it over the other Samsung designs
  • I like the notification LED which is often a bizarre omission on Samsung devices
  • The screen fixes my main gripes about AMOLED panels and is quite possibly the most important feature of the device for me; I'm not a big fan of the S II screen
  • The SD card slot omission is stupid but I can live with it
  • The internals, while out of date, are still very quick and it doesn't seem to make a blind bit of difference to real world performance, which is ultimately all that matters (short term)
  • The camera seems simply 'good', but I don't take that many pictures, same for video
  • I'll no doubt change it for a Galaxy S III/iPhone 5 in a few months so long-term doesn't concern me
Thanks. I've ordered it. :D

Moving on from my hp request. Does anyone know of a totally dumbed down and easy way of returning to stock?

I miss having it auto updating, especially now ics has sorted out a lot of the bugs that i hated.

Thanks.

I tried grabbing the rom from google, but it was a lot of hassle figuring out the sdk so i sorta gave up out of frustration.

update from a user on 4.04

After spending a bit of time with this update, one thing is for sure: it's stupid fast. The camera launches almost immediately now, even from the lockscreen - an area in which is used to crawl. Everything just seems even more fluid than before. The new radio also seem to be doing some good for signal strength - my phone appears to have jumped from the -120 to -100 dB range up to -90ish. That's all I've found so far, but I'll make sure to drop in another update if anything major pops up.

sounds good :)

^^ very good :D

chaps when i was in America i set-up google wallet and got my free $10 added, no i know it does not fully work in the UK and you can't add funds, but i thought i could spend it here? Others have managed, however when i load google wallet up it says it does not work in this country, so my question is to those that did how do you spend your 10 bucks?

Anyone know why Splashtop Remote Desktop HD isn't showing in the market on the GN?

EDIT:

Found this:
Add Market filter for minimum screen size, need 7" or bigger screen.
Seems like a bad decision for the GN?
