This video below is a leak of the official GS2 ICS rom as you can see it resembles nothing to ICS on the Nexus.

That is a good video Jabbs, it shows the point I was making.

Yes, it's Android and you can get rid of it, but it's always still there in certain ways and it really is ugly. :(

My praise for the Nexus really comes from the seamless experience you get from the device overall, from the physical design to the extremely good software.

Other Android devices do feel like a bodge in many ways when compared.

Why not just get a Nexus now, no matter what the Galaxy S III brings, it still won't have full Google support and stock ICS. If you find yourself badly wanting an S3 in a few months, you can just sell the Nexus and buy one?

I've tried the Galaxy S II with Nova Launcher and Trebuchet and both are good but I had a few issues with them.

I can't remember exactly what they were though as it was a while ago now :p

I'll stick them back on now and see how it goes.

It depends just how good it is really, if it's a slightly improved S2/Nexus hybrid, then I don't think a lot of Nexus users will jump ship.

If the specs are absolutely awesome, then I think people will just have to put up with TouchWiz and hide it the best they can. :p

It feels just like a Galaxy Nexus and in some cases even smoother having tried the various ICS Roms out for it.

None of them are smoother, most of them have issues of some sort. If you think there's one that is better, link it and I'll try it on mine.

They don't really have to put up with it at all though.

Just install another launcher = Job done. And down the line if they want, just install ICS theme like ICS Domination which will continue to be supported on ICS ROMs.

TouchWiz needs to die. It's a horrible garish iOS rip off and Samsung need to get some actual designers involved. Or failing that, use the stock Android 4.0 UI which is frankly absolutely fine anyway.

A launcher doesn't change all of the applications Samsung have modified as well though. TouchWiz isn't just a launcher.

Apart from the Contacts app, I couldn't see any other apps that were vastly different. The Samsung calendar app is way better than ICS calendar, the fact that you get month view /and/ agenda view on one screen is the deal breaker for me.

The AOSP Contacts app is nice but for me I never use the contacts app anyway, if I want a contact I T9 search them from the dialler and call/edit away. Contacts management is done mainly via Gmail.

Having said that, it's not too much a task for most of us here to install AOSP apps on a Samsung ROM anyway so again, the issue is mostly a non issue!

Edit*
But the absolute best thing about Samsung ROMs is the clipboard, something ICS does not have. The clipboard storage is permanent until you delete the items in there manually. It means you can put multiple things in there and use them anywhere even after a reboot instead of just one thing like on all other non Samsung ROMs.

Clearly it is an issue given how many people complain about TouchWiz. It would be better if it wasn't there.

Google have ICS set up excellently from the off, it doesn't need adjusting.

People complain because it's easy to complain these days. Just look at how many people write in when someone does something on TV that they feel is wrong even though it's not wrong at all in the general sense (*cough* Jeremy Clarkson *cough*)

That isn't at all relevant. :p All of the faffing you can do just breaks the immersion that I liked so much on the Nexus.

I don't want it. The only reason anyone bothered to ever defend TouchWiz was because it came on such an excellent phone in the Galaxy S II, they don't really want it.

It wasn't such a huge issue then because stock Android has never been as good as it is now, but now Samsung are choosing to butcher something that should be left alone.

If they want to add a few apps in - fine - but theme them so they match ICS and give the user the option to (easily) remove them.

Stuff like the stock ICS contact app and sms app - can they installed on a TW4.0 ROM like installing an apk? easy as that?

I agree the TW launcher is horrible - but the rest of the TW apps are fine by me. I use go contacts and sms anyhow.

i wish they would leave the stock rom alone, if samsung or whoever wanna muck around then why not just design a launcher based theme that can be removed.

drives me crazy! i heard that ics was built and designed so that you could uninstall any os laid stuff, but i guess that is not happening

I have the official (leaked) Samsung ICS ROM on my Galaxy S II here and you can't adjust or remove any of the TouchWiz/Samsung stuff.

For the most part it just feels like the Gingerbread one. :(
