very cautious about these, anything small with tegra 3 has a tendancy to overheat. so this could turn out to be like the htc one x and other tegra3 devices. will wait for a few weeks after release to see how end users get along.

1. I think very few people have reported heat issues with the One X, I play games on mine a lot, it gets warm, but so do all recent smartphones, and thats all it does, no problems after 4 hours of GTA III for example.

2. The N7 runs at a slightly lower clock rate, and has much more structure to dissipate heat..

I think you don't need to be too cautious..

really disappointed by by the lack of hdmi out and no sd card - are there any other similar tabs due out soonish that might edge out the nexus 7? For example,
i remember reading in the news about a week before the release of the nexus 7, that as well as making the nexus 7 Asus would be bringing out their own 7" budget tab later in the year. If true surely they would have to beat the nexus 7" on price while having the same spec OR have a similar price while upping the spec slightly? maybe including things like an sd card slot or hdmi out or a rear cam?
if others like Asus can't offer a cheaper tab or slightly better specced but slightly more expensive how will they be able to compete?
everybody will just buy a Nexus 7.

Since google are most certainly making a loss on the 8GB model and maybe breaking even on the 16Gb Model, I suspect and SD card/HDMI competitor would have to charge £250-£300 to make profit and pay for the extra features..

I wouldn't** go expecting a £199 Tegra 3 with all the bells/whistles anytime soon

** Awaits having to eat humble pie..

I guess these things are important to some people, the jack of all trades devices, I have a NAS, media streamers, and about 6 androide devices in the house, I only need a few Gb on each for local storage, or when out/about a small selection of media, the rest of the time, I have a nice centralised store in the house, TBs of media, all serving to my consoles/android devices/media streamers.. Maybe I'm too gadgety...

Nope. Your just smart like me

I do hope that they are as a 10 inch form factor is a much better experience than a 7. I had the original Galaxy Tab and although that was very portable it still felt like a glorified smartphone. Movies and videos looked too small and surfing required a touch of page enlargement. I have been spoilt by using a number of large screen tablets so it is a very subjective choice.

Even though an iPad is much, much lighter than a laptop, its size means that I'd put a 10 incher in the same category as a laptop, meaning it's a concious decision to carry it if I need it. A seven inch is just small enough to warrant being chucked in my every day backpack, like a Kindle.

Of course I'm a complete hypocrite, as I'll be putting down money for a Surface as soon as the pre-orders are announced!

Just ordered the 16GB version. Was waiting for the kindle fire to come out here but its taken too long.

Not fussed about the hdmi/sd slots as I will most likely just be using it for lying in bed or away from home.

you can never be too gadgety!!!!

the sd card slot omission wouldn't probably be a deal breaker, the thing with the hdmi is just that i have a cheapo £80 sumvision tablet that i quite pleased with and i've really got in the habit of playing all my media on the tv with it. it's played everything i've thrown at it and i even use it to use stuff like iplayer on the tv - all works really well and just the fact that you see hdmi on loads of cheap stuff.
i do appreciate though that if you want to hit a price point you have to stop somewhere - i'm often thinking if only mine had gps, or btooth...but then it wouldn't have cost £80!!!!!
Just been googling and at the risk of going off topic heres a few of the things i was looking at

http://www.theverge.com/products/eee-pad-memo-me370t/4728

but them there's always something to hold out for....you'd end up not buying anything!

Interesting reads, the first one especially, though from what I read some of the gratis nexus 7's sent out for review have already been rooted and the consensus is that usb otg will work with the correct drivers and stuff so the external storage isn't too much of a worry.

I was about to purchase the 8gb nexus 7 but now I'm gona do some research on the Acer, er thanks

Just curious, I know its speculation, but say if Google are losing money when selling the 8GB version, does anyone have an educated guess in just how much per device they are having to pay out of their own pocket?

Kinda interests me.

That's their plan. Nexus 7 is a market share grab. The UK 'Play' market has no stuff in it though. The poor Google (entertainment) eco system is the weak point of this device.

There is no doubt that they are going to make some profit on them, maybe not as much as they would like though.

A business is not going to sell something if they don't make any profit from it.
