**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

I've just published a 16 minute video, just on the screen (Can't post, I'm sure you can find it). For me the biggest shock is the (anti?) polarisation. Wow. Amazing.

Good video! Pretty much agree with everything you say. It's all about perception - if you can live with it/don't notice the "deficiencies", then there is no issue. However, if that blue shift bothers you, then move onto a different device. I think it really is as simple as that.

Got a text from EE saying my phone was in-store to collect. Yay!

Get to the store (which is 10 miles away as it's in the town I work in not live in) and guess what. No phone!

I give up at this point. It's just not meant to be.

I definitely would have called first. Absolutely hate a wasted journey, even worse when your looking forward to a new phone. Ah well.

Why do you care about the ability to see it in any orientation with polarised sunglasses when your sunglasses are not polarised?

I will learn this for next time. Get a text for something I have been waiting for, unjust assume it's going to be there. I mean, they just told me it was!

Also got an email from Peel saying that the phone case is delayed a month due to hem not being happy with the quality. Fair enough I'd rather that than a sub-par product but it just feels that my entire journey in trying to procure this damned phone is a comedy of errors!

For those who received the free Google Home Mini with their Pixel 2's and are experiencing Google Home for the first time (I appreciate many are waiting for the separate delivery), any early comments? Are you enjoying using the Home and what are you favourite uses for it?

I have three Google Home devices and will pass the Mini on to a family member who has not experienced it yet, because they live abroad.

According to Bloomberg, there are now 6.5 million Google Home devices in US homes and I suppose with the free Mini pre-order offer now in full swing, the number will rise significantly both there and here.

I expect many Home Minis (at £ 34 retail) to be stocking stuffers this season, esp as Apple announced yesterday that their higher priced competitor, the HomePod (US cost $ 350), will not be launched until "early 2018", thereby missing the big holiday season. According to some comments I have seen, they say the delay is mostly due to Siri not being ready and seriously lagging Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

Same I am actually blown away by how good it is. Everyone i have shown it to has commented on the quality. It's not far off a pro camera (obviously not with will the features)

So. I'm having a family gathering...including kids...they're running around having fun and I'm instinctively taking photos as the opportunity presents. This. Bleeping. Camera. It's not just the results....it's the whole experience....the speed, the shutter speed the output... Everyone is asking me to take photos because they're stunned by the results...

Then it happened.... My cousins new born had her first little smile... Double tap, aim, snap. The result....I caught it, a memory that will live forever... And there is absolutely no way my S8+ would have caught.

All my blue screen moaning and disappointment has been replaced with absolutely overwhelming excitement that this phone is my memory making weapon of choice. I don't like the screen. But my god this camera and the software experience around it.

Bravo.

Those weren't my sunglasses... (not the ones I wear day to day anyway, they're in the car and are more expensive... I think polarised)

I've certainly been driving and had to keep sliding my shades down to be able to read the directions on the phone. If that is fixed with this screen, I might lean towards saying the blue tint is an acceptable trade off.

I don't particularly mind your super pro Google posts, but it's these bits I don't get. You have one, so you know what they're like. This sounds like a Google Rep trying to pry positive comments from people.

As I say, I don't mind, but to me it's these that make people think you work for Google I would expect! :)

Ha ha, love it,'memory taking weapon of choice'! Glad you were able to grab some magical moments though.

Hi I watched your first vid unboxing and enjoyed it but cannot find this one. Is there a link you can provide?

Simple really. My interest is in finding new and interesting ways to use Google Home. I keep hearing that most people use it (and Alexa for that matter) for playing music. I do too but have found so many more uses around search, broadcasting, connecting smart home devices, etc that I wonder if among this group of tech savvy users that music too is the most common? I was hoping that among new users who receive GH Mini for the first time that they tell us how they are using it and perhaps in discovering new uses that I can learn from.

Fair enough. Mine's mainly turning my lights on and off, setting timers for cooking, alarms to wake me up and the occasional conversion or bit of large maths (like how many milliseconds is two days... needed when programming sometimes). Broadcast is an interesting one if you have many Homes, although I can't imagine I will ever need to use it in my flat... ("Hey Google, Broadcast" and then wait before giving the message)

I'm not supposed to post links :( Are you subscribed? It's my most recent video. (There is a link in my sig to my channel mind you)

So been looking at the deals in CPW. Have people gone for any of these 1 month contracts? The 2XL can be had for a total cost of £774 with a one month O2 contract of £15 and up front £759, it's £25 less than Sim free price. But the added possible benefit is that if you go through Quidco you might get £50 cashback. Their terms don't state anything about excluding these one month deals...

There is this:
"Cashback will only be paid on contracted devices if the plan is active for at least 6 months"
"Cashback will not be paid on cancelled contracts"

So unless you plan on keeping the contract for at least 6 months, it probably wont pay out!

Ok, Bluetooth is working perfectly in the gf's car now. However it's not displaying the meta data.

I'm still on 8.0, not the 8.1 beta.

Ah well, worth a go! Is that a cpw t&c because I still don't see that on quidco? Where did you get that extract from?
