**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

I was annoyed that the charging was slower than expected, and the lack of wireless charging WAS a shame but not a deal breaker (obviously), but I am very pleasantly surprised by the battery. I reckon it could make it through a day on anything but the most hardcore scenario. Certainly the best I’ve had yet in a phone, bests my old Xperia Z3 which was my previous battery champ.

Well I took the plunge today and bought a 2XL before the price went back up. Absolutely no screen issues for me, good to be back with up to date security up dates .

Anyone order and receive a MNML or Peel case for their Pixel? Any feedback? The Ringke Fusion is making the P2 too bulky and not really liking the grip. Need to see if CPW have the Canvas case to try out.

I had a MNML, sent it back to Amazon as it was pointless. Apparently the Peel has some camera protection so I've ordered one of them, its on its way as we speak.

Currently using a Spigen Slim Fit, its ok, but feels a bit big for my liking.

Edit, wait it was you that asked last time! Here's my response from a week or so ago. :)

I did go nekkid with my black 2XL to begin with, but the camera bump made me want a case. I like the Spigen but it feels big with it on.

I saw the MNML ones on Amazon the other day, and I've ordered a Peel from the states.

Apparently the Peel has better camera protection.

I have asked in the past but noticed no one's had arrived hence asking for feedback. I will order the Peel and hope it does the job. Like your Spigen I not liking the bulk of my Ringke Fusion. The Peel offers no protection so would only use during the week when I can trust myself to not drop the phone. During weekends when most likely to be snapping with the kids will whack on the Ringke.

5-6hrs seems to be the average :) Haven't had the need to charge it before the end of day yet.

I too am getting 6 hours + of heavy usage (lots of YouTube, music streaming, etc) on my Pixel 2 XL but see the real possibility of significantly more usage time if Google is able to integrate successfully the haptic technology mentioned previously from their recent acquisition of the Cambridge-based Redux ST.

This link provides a hands-on experience with Redux's technology and its potential for multiple use cases on future Pixels, Chromebooks, self driving vehicles, etc.

The Pixel 2 battery isn't too bad given that it is 2700mAh. You get around 5-6 SOT and some left over by end of the night. Not quite don't charge overnight like the XL but decent enough.

I have pixel2 and get maybe 4 hours SOT, but that's taking the phone down to flat. I think maybe some of the apps I have gobble up some juice in the background. What settings are everyone using ? I have adaptive brightness on , with brightness set to half way, ambient display on and the music listening thingy off. Ambient display use much ?

Don't hold your breath. Ordered beginning of November and I am still waiting. They delayed release once and said they would ship mid December. Ended up shipping on the 29th December and tracking it it still hasn't left the states yet. It better be the best phone case ever when I finally get it! :P

It is definitely the apps and notifications that eat battery up. On a bad day I get 4 hours SOT on a good day 6 to flat. When you actually use the phone it hardly uses up any battery in terms of draining it down quickly. I installed for example some news apps while trialled which one I wanted to have as my sole one and some football alert ones and my battery was getting eaten up. I have decided to stick to the core google apps and a few selected apps and turn of notifications on apps I don't care about. Google assistant is always working to try and please you with relevant results.

I have turned off ambient display and have adaptive brightness on.

After writing the above I decided I would turn off ambient display, see if I get any noticeable difference. Not that I'm disapointed with the battery life, compared to my n5x its stellar. I'm just not seeing quite the SOT's of others.

Fair play, I really want to go naked, but I don't like the camera bump sticking out.... :\

had anyone received the January security update yet on their pixel 2xl?

Yeah I got it about the 3rd or 5th....

The first thing I did was to turn off the ambient display so didn't really test with or without. Some days the battery is brilliant and other it can be to the levels you are getting but I wouldn't be too disheartened. The OP5 and OP5+ only ones I know of a similar price point and screen that has better battery. I would not give up the native OS, camera and fluidity for anything else. I am envious of the XL battery just so I can go into the next morning and charge at work but oh well we can't have it all.
