**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

My Z3 finally needed changing (screen and back lifting). Been debating between the one plus 5t, mi mix 2 and the s8 (wife had just got one). Pixel 2 was quite late on in my mind and the screen issue was a real concern. However I saw this video https://youtu.be/Hi2tjMLVpdQ which pretty much helped the decision process. Then went to cpw spent quite a time checking the blue tint, it's there it's reasonably obvious on a white background but not visible on anything else. Decided I wanted the xls size over the standard. Very happy with this phone, early days only a day in but I love it. Great phone and thankfully a massive step up from the Z3 which was a great phone in its day.

Weird charging on my XL too. On 26% and it said 1hr 30 mins to rapidly charge to full. Left it a few mins and it's gone up to 28% battery but now says 2 hours to fully charge. How's that work then?

I wish I could tell you. I've had nothing but charging issues with mine and then miraculously some days it charges great. Yesterday it was really playing up, plug it in and it would sit for 10-15 mins and not even charge. Then today it charged from 0-100 in just under 2hrs (it took about 80 mins to charge to 90% which was excellent). Google have offered me an RMA it's just up to me to post mine to them first which I really don't want to do as I have a busy week ahead of me away from home so I'd like to have my phone for vids and music etc. I drained my battery completely to 0 this morning (it took from Thursday evening, charging aside it definitely has cracking battery life!) and then did a full factory reset. I will test it this coming week and see if the reset has made any difference. I have 14 days to take Google up on their offer of RMA.

LG built the phone. That should explain it all unfortunately.

Looks like Google Play Store will start selling audiobooks soon. I assume most people listen to books being read while driving? I cannot remember the last time I listened to an audiobook as I am a keen reader but might like to try it out. Anyone a fan of audiobooks and what are you typically doing while listening? A 50% discount on the first title purchase would get me interested in trying it out:

Audiobooks have been around for a while now mate.

If you don't listen to them now why would you start just because Google start selling them?

You know who you're talking to?

The answer should be obvious.... because Google :D

Same weird charging issues here continue. I completely drained my 2XL yesterday with a day full of sat nav and it managed nearly 6 hours SOT which is really impressive. Then I plug it in using the official charger and it says 'Charging Rapidly - 6 hours to full'. I was like "u wot m8??" Obviously something was amiss, so I unplugged it and plugged it in again and then it said "8 hours to full":rolleyes:

I then unplugged, turned the ends of the cable around and plugged directly into a wall socket. Then it said 4 hours to full. I don't know if it actually took that long because I went to sleep, but I've installed GSAM Battery Monitor and will monitor it over the week. Even 4 hours is too long - if working properly it should charge to full in around 2.5 hours.

Just can't believe how Google could get this phone so right, but then so wrong in some areas. If it doesn't sort itself out I'll ask for an RMA. With the need to reboot to use the headphone adaptor, the distorting speaker and this charging issue I'm rather frustrated with the phone.

Because a few friends have been recommending them to me recently which coincides with the news of the imminent release in the Play Store. A 50% discount on my first purchase would be appealing too.

I'm very interested in how you fair with this and what GSAM tells you. I uninstalled Accubattery in the end as it was more a distraction than anything. What I have noticed is that the phone needs to be plugged in for 5-10 minutes before the Rapid charging properly kicks in, it's like it has to ramp up or something. I plugged in this morning at 53% and in 10 minutes it only charged 3% but in 20 minutes it had charged to 72% so that was good - 1%/minute seems to be about the going rate.
As I said above Google offered me the RMA no problem, was on live chat for about 10 minutes and that was it, very easy, but I just don't want to send it back. If the charging behaves itself this week I might hold on to it. I know it's such a cliché piece of advice and I cringe every time a manufacturer mentions it but I genuinely think the factory reset I did yesterday has helped.
I will also change my charging habit and see what that does. I got caught up in the theory that the battery likes to operate between 40-80% (give or take) and I'm not sure it knew if it was coming or going. As I mentioned I did a full drain yesterday and charged in to full just to calibrate. With my XL I used to keep it topped up all the time, be it at home or in the office, if there was a charger beside me it was plugged in, I decided to change for the 2XL but I think I'll go back. If there is truth behind it decreasing battery longevity by keeping it topped up I am fairly sure the phone will be long gone by the time that comes to fruition, I usually change every year anyway.

I've been on audio books for a couple of years the model they have is excellent. To compete against that would be very challenging imho. Yes most of my listening is in the car or washing up

Not sure I can see Google beating Audible and the ability to read and listen to a book simultaneously. Aren't Google Books more expensive than Amazon too?

That pink mark looks like where it has been held? looks abit like palm of hand at bottom and then two marks where fingers have been.

Just installed the whitestone dome on my black XL.
biggest nightmare was keeping dust off the screen before the screen protector went on, not helpful the supplied microfibre cloths keep putting dust on the screen.
a airduster can came in very handy.

on now and dust free, fits great with my caseology parallax and no halo's.

Install guide video for anyone who haven't seen the whitestone.
