**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Has anyone noticed or thought that the blue shift on their device isn't as pronounced this last week or so (since January update ish)? I realise it sounds absolutely barmy but I definitely think mine isn't as obvious as before. The rational explanation is that I'm just getting used to it but I went into CPW today when I was passing for a browse and compared my unit with the display model and mine was much better than the display unit. Mine was part of a mid-November batch so maybe the blue tint never was that bad to begin with...

Interesting that you say that as I've only had my XL2 for a few days but was thinking last night that the blue shift doesn't seem as bad as when I first switched it on.

Maybe the screens have bedded in..
There's a thought. The blue tint never annoyed me but I did notice it now and again particularly at very extreme angles but it is definitely not as pronounced now. I also compared it to the Note 8 while in CPW and I have to say the off axis colour shift wasn't any worse than on the Samsung.

I am sure you just got used to it. Saying that I am sure a lot of people would not have noticed it had the internet not gone full potato about it.

The shift exists on most high end devices

I like the idea that they will be available using Google Assistant so they can be read to me from various devices but esp Google Home. And soon in your car through Android Auto.

Devil's advocate time but is that any different to what audible offers. I don't think you can compete with audibles model. Easy subscription, no quibles refund (I've done over my 10%) .works on any device, has their own publishing team, you can go on :)

Time for some competition. Audible was acquired by Amazon approx 10 years ago.

As I understand, Audible, like some other audiobooks, aims to get you onto a subscription model---$ 14.95 per month in the US for example. Google Play Audiobooks, like iBooks, is a non-subscription based model---pay as you go. I for one prefer that idea.

And Google audiobooks are available on Android of course, and iOS and the web and as previously mentioned, on Google Assistant and soon Android Auto. Many on this thread have purchased devices in the Google ecosystem and most recently with Google Assistant. So the idea of a native app for listening on my Pixel, my Chromebook or Google Home is quite appealing. I expect Google will introduce many other features based on its AI/machine learning smarts too.

According to Mashable, "Combining Google's machine learning with its audiobooks opens up many other interesting possibilities, particularly when you start thinking about audiobooks in the context of Google Assistant. It's not difficult to imagine, for example, eventually being able to say something like "Okay Google, skip to the part of Hamlet where he says 'to be, or not to be."

Early days.

So Google's audio books are more expensive and lack a Whispersync type feature to link with actually reading a book and syncing progress. Really can't see the point of why you'd choose to buy from Google.

Unless you're Sesevans I guess.

Never really noticed the blue shift either, I use the amFilm screen protector for the 2 XL and it works fine, easy to fit too, there are the 'dot matrix' dots some people mention but it is barely noticeable to me.

Just trying to find the best launcher, at the moment I use Nova Prime with Teslaunread, but tempted to try another as the numerical badge notifications are a bit hit and miss with Outlook/Whatsapp also, it seems to ignore the fact I do not want Whatsapp top of-the-screen notifications during games / general use.

Have you gone into Android notification settings and turned off the pop up notifications in Whatsapp from there?

So recently (the last week maybe) I have some apps crashing on launch. Most pronounced is Facebook. If I clear data it works for a period and then starts again. Waze was doing it this morning but now seems fine. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Do I need to do a fresh install/factory reset maybe?

Yeah I changed the pop up notification to off, but still does it... Very bizarre.

ubern00b - same, Facebook, Excel etc have crashed on launch lately, since Sunday I think, not sure what is the cause but a factory reset would be a bit OTT I think, hopefully it's something that will fix itself / be patched.
