**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Continuing with the Android P discussions from the other day, I see that Google intends to add support for using your phone as a Bluetooth Keyboard or Mouse. Will users abandon stand-alone Bluetooth Keyboards and Mouse like the type Logitech make?

Support is already rumoured for atypical display types (eg the "notch") and a revamped Material Design interface.

Anyone have any experience with the Razer USB-C to 3.5mm adapter? I have lost my replacement USB-C to 3.5mm from Google and the one I got with my phone never worked.

I have heard good things about the sound quality from the Razer one but it's £20 + £10 for standard postage from their website which is crazy!!!

£20 £30 for a usb -> 3.5mm dac doesn't seem that crazy, I'm guessing it ships from the USA?

Someone in the thread mentioned about the razer one, Wouldn't it be worth a chance of asking Google for another replacement? :p

My battery life has been uncharacteristically poor today. Currently sitting on 48%, with only 1hr46 screen on time. I hope its not going the same way as my old S7E which had fantastic battery life at first but quickly became mediocre, it'll be even more of an annoyance on this phone with it not having wireless charging, nor me having an abundance of compatible chargers.

Before this, I would have expected it to still be well into the 60's percent.

Those who have pixels and Chromecast have you come across an issue where your pixel can't see the Chromecast till you turn WiFi on and off. Small thread on Reddit about it. But if a pain but once you know the work around it's a bit easier

Hi. Does the pixel 2 have any flat picture profile for recording video ?

It doesn't. I'm still not convinced with the video on the Pixel. The photos are a lot better. The video mode doesn't allow anything to be adjusted. The 1080/60 mode is a mushy mess and when poor light not great. I just shoot 4K/30 and normally is fine except when a lot of motion and it can look tad odd.

Seen a lot mentioned about the battery. Mine has been the same as the day I got it and been really got. Usual 5 hours SOT and last the day on the Pixel 2.

I've said from the start, Pixel video is awful especially in low light.

Yes it's awful. Thankfully the pictures and stock OS save it otherwise would have moved on. In good light I've captured decent stuff but indoors it's a mess. It saves a memory with the family so continue with it.

Are other premium handsets as poor with video? A lot is mentioned about photos but not much on video.

I do have specialist video kit but handy to capture with the phone before the moment goes.

@ddoubleep I actually RMA'd my first Pixel as the video was so poor I thought it was faulty. I've since moved from Pixel to Pixel XL as I love the handset for stock Android and the photos are brilliant. I don't do too many videos so it's not a deal breaker for me.

My replacement 2XL just arrived.

Dead pixels.

FFS.

Edit: booked in for another return, won't get replacement for another week.

Always liked LG screens, but this experience has made this the last one of theirs I touch.

Developer preview 1 for P is out but only as a sideload flash, No OTA on preview 1.

Thanks for that. We have talked about support for the "notch" previously---expect many Android OEMs to employ it this year.

Android P will also allow for quick responses to messages in the notifications pane.

Indoor positioning is being improved, esp with the increasingly development of indoor maps, adding support for WiFi RTT which measures ping time between different WiFi hotspots in different locations to better calculate the user's indoor positioning. This should also be helpful with our smart home control on Google Home and linked devices to work out things like responding correctly when you say "turn on the light", instead of having to specify which one, giving Google a further advantage in its battle for the smart home with Amazon.
