**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Just the facts. That 98 on the review speaks volumes to me.

I think you need to take a more balanced approach in your posts. Not sure I've ever see you post anything negative towards google? I'm certainly not the first person to say this.

anyway, yeah the 98 rating is fantastic and it is overall the best smartphone camera. That said, dual cameras are better for portrait mode. Still, we get front facing portrait mode which I assume will be better than the iPhone X

If it works well I think it will cut into GoPro quite significantly.
I think you're living on a completely different Google affiliated planet if you think a Google product is actually going to cut into an existing market leader with a product name that is widely recognised compared to Google's products barring the Chromecast.

Clippy, has to be actually IN stock for it to sell. Secondly it needs to be widely available. Thirdly, well it needs to be out there and well I could go on but I digress from the thread subject itself.

Clips, is pretty much a DoA product no matter how much you want to sell it on this forum.

I might buy the pixel buds

I've spent quite a bit of time working in the middle east this year, and whilst everyone speaks english it would be pretty cool to try it out

I honestly can't remember a time in my life I ever wanted to clip a camera onto a bag of flower. You know what, as much as I love my kids I don't need to take photos of them all the time.

We need to stop living our lives through screens and actually, you know, live!

On the "unlimited storage", looks better than your comment. They say:

"Free, unlimited original-quality storage for photos and videos taken with Pixel through the end of 2020, and free, unlimited high-quality storage for photos taken with Pixel afterwards."

That's what I said? You no longer have free unlimited original quality storage after that date, stuff gets converted to a lower quality resolution, which is not what I want when I'm saving 4K/1080 60fps video or full res photos.

IMO for the money, the LG V30 offers a better hardware experience, and with expandable storage and more hardware features. The only downside is LG's software, this is where Samsung wins now. Either would be excellent for the money.

For £900, I and many others expect a phone to have wireless charging, 256GB storage (or an SD card slot). The storage option is the biggest
issue with the Pixel 2, especially when it's absolutely mad obvious they are gunning at Apple, yet don't offer a 256GB model where Apple does, and for £50 less.

Strange times where Samsung's software is being considered a plus..

It is though, look at the S8 and Note 8, the software has reached a level where people are now happy with it, nothing but praise for the new UX, and come Oreo, it can only get better. We have rootless Substratum system theme support, the ability to change everything, system level ad blocking and other things, all without needing to root.

I'm not sure the latest snapdragon will beat it. The a11 destroys the 835, it's a massive leap forward. Wasn't it the owner of passmark who recently said the gap between them now has gotten so big over the past year or two they have a serious problem.

I'd be impressed if the 845 gets even close

You are correct of course.

I really, really want to like the Pixel XL2. I am an Android man first and foremost. However, I cannot ignore the fact that the XL2 is the same price as the iPhone 8+ which has a MUCH faster processor, dual lens camera, wireless charging and more. I think if the XL2 had been at least £50 cheaper then it would have made the decision easier, but for me, with that processor, I think the 8+ will potentially be more future proof in the long run, and at this price, that's becoming more important.

Haha. Certainly not my opinion.

I have to say it's so hard to pick a phone in these last few years. They all seem to be half baked with missing features. These particular phones are either overpriced or under specced which ever way you want to look at it.

It's a better deal than you get with any other android phone, however regardless if 4k60 and giant photos are a priority then just buy extra storage. it's £1.59 a month for 100gb.

I'm in a quandary. My shortlist is Pixel 2XL, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus

My pre-order with google is in so I know I'll get the home mini (that's worth £50). I also have a Nest so it kinda makes sense to stick with Google.

Holy actual balls, I just glanced at CPW and checked out the contract deals
Example, O2, 8gb data £31 a month and STILL £759 up front!!! Whaaaaa!?

Edit: Sorry guys, just saw that was for a one month contract :D

Perhaps this link might change your focus? I used to be all about hardware and each and every improvement. But increasingly I am coming around to the view that the magic going forward is really in software made possible by AI and machine learning and it is here that I believe Google is in the lead and will be hard to catch. I say this as I have tried to point out merely the facts of what sets them apart, without bias. See if this helps.

Just ordered me a Echo Dot. I was hoping the Home Mini would have an aux out but it doesn't so I can't hook it up to an external speaker.

My phone upgrade shortlist is pretty much Samsung's S8 lineup now as I have little faith in LG. I really wanted to buy a Pixel 2 but what was shown yesterday was average.

Also £100 for extra 64GB is just greedy. OnePlus also use fast UFS2.1 storage and they charge only £50 for the bump, plus you get more ram for that £50 too. What a joke.

See I don’t think it is. It’s only a good deal if the latest OS is a must the very day Google release it, otherwise the hardware itself doesn’t compete with LG/Samsung and the like. For £900 I expect a lot from a phone. £870 odd for the S8+ was an eyesore on its own, and that phone has a lot more in terms of hardware features and out of the box polish, even right now, 6 months on. But thankfully it's £100 cheaper so that's better.

I genuinely would have bought the 2 XL if it had 256GB option and forgiven the other areas it is lacking in.

I would then have moaned about the lack of software features that I've been used to the past 6 months, stuff like being able to auto hide the navbar for even greater immersive mode on 18.5:9 screens, something that even stock Oreo doesn't have which is absolutely ridiculous in my eyes.

The storage option is the biggest issue with the Pixel 2

Really? The biggest issue? Their biggest failing with this device is not having 256gb option? Have you seen anyone else in this thread say they wanted a 256gb version? But it's the biggest issue...?

I assume then, you mean 'for you', which is of course fine, but the fact no-one else has mentioned it seems to show it's not really an issue for most/the majority.
