**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

Design is subjective, I quite like it.

I haven't seen any reviews that said the design was anything more than unique, but most reviews have called it out for just being ugly

The camera is hopefully the best on any phone... ever. Fuse video stabilisation, stock Android, Google Lens

Probably better yes, noticeably better? probably not. and 900 pounds to get it.

always on screen

That's great, the S8 had it 6 months ago

squeezy frame

Is that a joke? even the hands on reviewers call it a silly gimmick

small bezels

Not particularly actually. Looks pretty much exactly like the G6. Its got smaller bezels compared to the pixel but its bezels are still larger than the S8 and the iPhone X, well no need to go on there.

stereo front facing speakers

That should benefit all 5 people who use it

fastest FPS on market (maybe... the Honor 9 is silly fast)

You can't be serious? Is this really a selling point for you?

P OLED screen with amazing contrast.

Which has lower pixel density than the S8 and a lower resolution and frankly the S8's screen is already stunning

Also, who's losing their mind? Personally I just decided it's my best option now, so I've ordered one.

The people paying 900 quid for it? suit yourself i suppose

You asked what it had, I told you. Rather than quoting it all, I will just tell you I disagree with everything you've said and it makes me think you don't know what people want.

Oh, and no, I didn't pay £900 for it.

I'll let you know now, I wont reply to anything further from you, lets move on.

Would the standard Pixel 2 be an improvement over my S7 edge? thats the question, visually certainly not but vanilla android tempts me and I can do a straight swap if i paid my contract off (with my phone) and take another.

The standard Pixel 1 would be an improvement on the S7 edge! I changed from S7 edge to Pixel XL when it released last year and it was the best move I've made.

Sold out already lol. Can't be bothered with the hassle of the always supply starved Pixel range.

Google are amateurs, plain and simple.

Not that anyone in this thread will need it I guess, but I did my summary of the event -

YouTube seemed to be all kinds of fail yesterday, from the audio sync issues in the event to how long it took to process my video :( I wonder how much it gets stressed on announcement day?

I started recording 20 minutes after the event, had it all edited within about an hour of the event, uploaded in around 30 minutes (so we're now around 9pm) but it was processing until around 2am before it finally went live! Okay, it's a 1GB 1080p video, but I don't know I remember YouTube ever taking that long to process a video.

The language translation when paired with the ear buds is the most interesting thing, dural forward speakers and ois are also very nice. Still not enough for 800 though.

I've read the DXO report and have to say I personally prefer the camera on the iPhone 8 Plus

also, it seems neither phones are HDR capable?

Same specs as other phones on the market, that also cost £900?

Do you not fancy a Note 8, Andy? I know you had the Note 5 back in the day.

Yup I think his put me on his ignore list too

Ha ha, I think you we're a couple of years back. I know it seems rather passive aggressive, but I'm quite the argumentative type and I use it to stop me arguing and generally wasting my time in an argument that no-one gains anything from (not if I feel the other party has too much of a slant on things and doesn't really want to discuss something, just have a rant/moan)

I assume you quoted the guy saying 'were going crazy' for the Pixel 2, or some similar rubbish. Take the comment about stereo speakers for example. As Glaucus backs up above with them being one of the two things he mentions as him liking, there are a lot of people that really want the dual front facing speakers. Many of them commented in the last few Nexus/Pixel launch threads that they wouldn't upgrade from their Nexus 6/6P because of it. It's happened. I could go through and find the quotes if I had a spare few hours and really cared. To claim only 5 people want them and dismiss them like that (likely because he has no care for them) is just a little silly and makes me think there is no point discussing it with this person. Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for them. I don't watch video on my phone apart from the gym when I have earbuds in, but I understand it's a strong selling point for many. People seem to get angry when something is priced above what they feel it's worth and they then have this bias against it.

I was hovering over the order button for a little while, but the price point made me hold back. I know it's only £70 more than the Pixel I've just ordered, but even that was a bit of a reach at £799. £870 just seemed too much. The draw of stock Android (especially now as a developer) was too much.

Through yesterday (pre announcement) I was considering if the price is too high, do I just stick with my Pixel XL. For me that used to change phones every 3 months or so, that's quite an odd thought, but I really was considering it. How much higher do these prices go and where do we draw the line? I think we're getting close. As has been discussed, the Pixel 2 isn't a massive leap forward, but there is enough for me to be impulsive enough to place an order.

Will there be huge leaps forward now though? Look at Apple, how much different is the iPhone 8 from the 7? I hear very little indeed. Probably a lot less than the Pixel to Pixel 2?

As for the a11 Vs Snapdragon 835 debate, this is an issue with googles release schedule. The 835 has been out ages, so of course the a11 will beat it. However I fully expect the next Snapdragon to beat the a11. Google needs to change its release schedule to coincide with the snapdragons.
Not that I care, I'm happy with a mid level chip, but so many people do want the fastest, not that I'm sure what anyone uses it for. Does bayonet really edit and render videos for YouTube etc on a phone.

I'm not sure the latest snapdragon will beat it. The a11 destroys the 835, it's a massive leap forward. Wasn't it the owner of passmark who recently said the gap between them now has gotten so big over the past year or two they have a serious problem.

I'd be impressed if the 845 gets even close
