**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

The reviews of the Pixel 2 now including a new feature that I care about because I intend to buy a Bluetooth headset for my Pixel 2 XL expected. This is mostly new to Android and offered first in Oreo.

For those who have the new Pixel 2 and Bluetooth headphones have you noticed that the new Pixel displays the remaining battery life of the headphones in Quick Settings?

For example this works for Bose headphones and presumably any headphones in the "Made for Google" collection. I intend to buy the Pixel Buds when they appear on these shores so presume that this new feature will allow me to easily read my Pixel Bud battery percentage when using them.

Has anyone with the new Pixel 2 been using the Google Lens feature to identify an object or storefront and with what results?

Pleased or disappointed so far? Any examples?

It works with Jaybirds which I have. I'm very pleased about that.

I don't know why he doesn't use a battery log to see what percentages they are at and exactly when they hit 100%? Would save keep turning the screen on too.

Anyway, this would concern me more than the blue tint at angles to be honest. Even then, not massively concerned as I do generally just charge overnight.

I wonder if it was just a dodgy cable?

Could well be a duff cable, we'll find out when more people get they're devices.

My Pixel 2 charged yesterday from 20% to 85% in 40 minutes, with wifi on to give a more real use perspective. I see a lot of numbers flying around but in layman's terms it charges very quickly (it's just gone from 20% to 35% in 10 minutes which is much quicker than my iPhone did). Because the phone's a shiny new toy to play with I have been using it much more than I usually use a phone I have used 60% in the last 24 hours with about 2/3 hours connected to my Chromecast Audio and an album's worth connected to a bluetooth speaker with normal use of Internet/Google Assistant. Battery life is solid, the only friction i've had is having to buy a USB C to A so that I can charge from my computer, it does come with a USB C to A adapter but it's a female USB, so unless you have a USB to USB cable it's something to take into consideration.

"That's some pretty wild OLED burn-in on the Pixel 2 XL after maybe 7 days of full-time use"

I'd guess at that being image retention rather than burn, grey background makes it easy to see but it should fade after ~1 minute or so. My 2012 MBPr did that.

Ha ha lot of haters in this thread. Probably the ones locked into contracts and no way to upgrade to it if it was the greatest phone ever.

I am waiting for the full reviews to come out ... Like the official ones.

Linus just did an overview of his up coming review. No mention of any shoddy screens. The one I saw looked fantastic.

What confuses me is people have been declaring the V30 one of the phones of the year, but I understand it has the same screen as the 2 XL? I understand it's cheaper, but if the screen is that big an issue, why are people so hot on it (how good the V30 is I mean)?

To those with the regular sized Pixel 2 how have you got on with it now that you've had a few days to play with it? How's the battery been? Any issues with the screen being a bit dim which I personally witnessed in the CPW demo model? Any annoyances with the bezel size? Do you wish you held out for the XL 2? Thanks.

I can tell you my brother commented on how good the battery was, he had 80% left when he got home from work. I also posted the screen brightness figures showing it's plenty bright enough :)

:o As if being on contract or not has any bearing.

Anyway, it's an OLED; Image retention is an issue. It's happened onces on my s8, but disappeared quickly enough. Now i have slight side bars thanks to watching some 16:9 content on the 18:9 screen at half brightness....that's fading too, though. But it doesnt fill me with confidence. My note 4 had burn from the status bar, my s4 was all over the place, my s2 had it as well.... Let's not forget that samsung patched the nav bar on the s8 after release to block solid coloured bars (or something like that) and enable auto-hide in order to reduce the chance of burn...

The Wife's S7 has full on burn and you can see an after image of the keyboard on a grey screen. Yes, it's that bad.... reviews done mention the problem with potential image retention on other phones, either. Shock. So no, there's no special hatred towards the pixel here - that image shows EXACTLY the same problem the S8/S8+s were having after release.

LG display per-chance? Never got anything with my Samsung one...

I honestly can't remember, I had whole the top case replaced due to a light bleed issue and the new panel didn't have it (and since swapped that whole thing for a 2017)

My friend's S7 does have actual screen burn though, so Samsung aren't immune!
