**** The Official Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL Thread ****

OK, so here is Google's official comment...

You don't need to explain that, we get why you're here.

As for the 2 year warranty, my understanding is that 2 years is standard.

Edit: it is 2 years
Google warrants that the Phone will be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use as described in the user guide for two years from the date of original purchase by you anywhere in the EEA and Switzerland

Put him on your ignore list, to me he's an adbot for google.....completely bias and has never once said anything negative about the company. Every company has it's faults, and the pixel 2 it's a lemon but to him it's the best phone ever created.

Lemon is a bit strong though

I think it's a great phone despite the bezels (XL seems to have more issues)

No wireless, no dual camera, no headphone (ok if bluetooth worked), screen issues.

If it was £699 then it would make a big difference (if they can fix the screen). IMHO £100 too much. Really wanted to buy one, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

I really don't see ANY of your points. Apart from the Bluetooth bug, which I have never experienced and seems some what attached to certain cars.

You are really scraping the barrell when you start attacking the camera

Watch the MKBHD review or android authority ones.

eh? who's attacking the camera. It got the highest dxomark score for heavens sake. I was just saying for £800, a second camera would have been nice as a dedicated hardware device will always trump software no matter how good it is (and it is good). NO wireless, ok if you don't use it but it's £800! I'll say that again, it's £800

the pixel 2 camera is nothing short of excellent. you dont need to cameras on the back of any phone an the vast majority of dual camera phones out there are compromised in some way. It's really bizzare to me that we suddenly need dual cameras on top end phones. Nope, dont agree.

Anyway, is it true there's a warning in the manual about jeans transferring colour to the back of the phone ? lol

The 'new' 2 year warranty is a US only thing EU have always had 2 years.

It says this on the website under the tech specs > colour:

Colors

  • Pixel 2
  • Just Black1
  • Clearly White1
  • Kinda Blue1
  • Pixel 2 XL
  • Just Black1
  • Black & White1
1Kinda Blue Pixel 2 color variant subject to local carrier availability. Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL phones have painted exterior surfaces which are chip resistant, but may chip if the phone is dropped. Some materials, such as leather or denim, may transfer color to Clearly White, Kinda Blue, and Black & White phones, this color transfer may be cleaned with ordinary household cleaners, see website for more details.

I think I agree with you that the XL is overpriced.

£629 for a Pixel 2 so you are paying £170 for a slightly bigger screen with some issues.

But on the other hand I think the standard Pixel 2 is fantastic value. Sure, if you desperately need wireless charging then go for another phone but that's just a design choice because of the materials they used, not because they were cutting costs.

The second camera thing, the software makes EVERY photo better - not just portrait mode. The double cameras are useful for some photos, but Goggle's camera magic works for all your regular snaps too.

Did Google say anything about bluetooth? They are VERY quiet over that which tells me it's something which can't be fixed

Who knows, maybe 8.1 will fix it

I can tell you now my friend the bluetooth seems to be fixed! The OTA finally arrived last night when I was heading to bed (typical) so I installed it this morning. Just had a chance to test out the audio in the car and ALL is working! For some reason Amazon music worked intermittently on 8.0 but YouTube and play music never worked and now they are all working with full metadata read out on screen too. I sure hope it stays fixed and wasn't a fluke.

I've got 8.1 OTA now, I'll nip to car at lunch and also test my headphones when I get home

please!!!!!!

Have to say, I'm loving 8.1 mainly because I'm a stickler for the small details

I hope to god and probably many other who visit this thread hope that bluetooth is fixed in 8.1 so TheOracle can stop banging on about it :D

How do you figure that? To me it says they're confident in the screen. If they weren't, extending the warranty is going to cost them big bucks.

When you saw car companies giving lifetime warranties, did you instantly think 'Wow, are they that unreliable?' No, you only do that if you're confident in your product.
Lol

No ....it is when they decrease the warranty from 2 years to 1 year is when they have no confidence

To me it is no confidence in it. They don't want another nexus 5X/6P happening.

Said my part anyway I'll stay out the thread now.

I kinda agree, they are not sure the screen has sufficient longevity so they are extending the warranty to avoid reputational risk down the line, which does imply no confidence.

Ultimately they don't build the pOLED screens themselves so extending the warranty for an extra year is about all they can do. And I am sure they will RMA any screen issues well past the 2 years after this high profile ****storm, so it's all good for customers as far as I'm concerned.

We dont know that it has anything to do with the screen do we? More likely, they are just increasing it to two years to match the competition. I would say that you don't increase the warranty if you're not confident in the product but this is google we're talking about and as mentioned they would probably sooner take the financial hit than the dent in consumer confidence so i don't know really...
