I'm wondering whether I'm catching the power button in my pocket, or whether my skin is waking the screen, or my finger is accidentally going on the FP reader, either way quite annoying. I've never had another phone that did this for a long time! Probably since the likes of the Nokia dumb phones!

yum mine used to do it..

disabled all the "smart" wake features etc and only left the power button and finger print enabled and haven't had it do it again.

The update wasn't available for me when I checked on the play store.
I just downloaded the APK from APK mirror and installed it from the download folder on my phone. Does that mean sideload?, I always thought you do a sideload via ADB command prompt. :)

Yeah that's the easier way of sideloading compared to ADB sideloading.
 
Chaps, I'm in need of a new charge cable - always used Anker stuff but the one's I've got (usba>usbc) don't support fast charging, so presume I need usbc>usbc. Any recommendations? My current ones are the Anker braided ones, 6ft.
 
Cheers FishLicker. Agreed, I already have a load of Anker usba>usbc cables but they don't support fast charge, so just looking for an Anker cable that will fast charge the Pixel2XL.

Will their usbc usbc 2.0 one work? I'm reading a bit of conflicting info about what will.

Cheers for the suggestion re: usbc laptop charger, just need a cable to shove in my bag along with the official charger.

The phone flat out doesn't fast charge from a to c

It's totally ridiculous as the old one did.
 
So I tried out this new night sight feature, and I have to conclude its the most overrated feature in a long time. Everyone seems to be really excited by it, but for me, most shots just come out looking blurry, so ideally, you need to prop your phone up (or use a mini tripod) and use the timer to take the shot. OK, fair enough... but then even if you do get it right, the picture looks nothing like the reality, it’s like someone turned the lights on. Totally inaccurate. I really can’t see the point.

I have come to the conclusion that either the phone or you are broken. :D

I don’t deny you can get a nice looking picture with it, but the result is not accurate, and I feel safe to say the examples you speak of aren’t accurate either even if they do look decent.

I don’t think the phone is broken, just the software which seems in a never ending beta status.

I have to admit, I am seriously considering going back to a Samsung. I really want to like this phone but its making it very difficult. I am also not a fan of the way stock android is going either, its being increasingly dumbed down, and some of the design decisions are baffling (gestures for one).

Edit: alternatively, I could almost be tempted to try ROMing it, first time I will have bothered doing anything of the sort since I had my HTC M8. Perhaps there are decent ROMs that are better resolved than Google’s own attempt.
 
Does anyone use their Pixel with a gimbal to capture video? Any recommendations? Seen the DJI drop in price and half tempted to get. Wanted to use the Pixel for shoot some upcoming birthdays and make a short trailer.
