**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

I've never been so conflicted by what is a relatively minor decision to make, I have both the Mate 20 Pro and my PIxel 3XL arrived this morning. I managed to get 25% off on the Pixel 3XL, having had the 2XL i know how good these can be.
Which one would you NOT let the missus have?? That's how I'd decide :p

Which one feels better in your hand, which one is nicer to use for you personally.
Which one if laying side by side on the table would you pick up and take out with you when you have 5 seconds to choose and can only take one :D
Use one for a day at a time and see how times you find yourself missing something or wishing you had the other phone.
When I sent my Oneplus 5 back last year it was only because the camera was pants compared to the then £629 Pixel 2XL but I loved everything else about the OP5, there will usually be a deciding factor that will make the right phone (for you) click and stand out for you. :)

There is no doubt the Mate 20 Pro has the better form factor and is better to hold due to it being slight slimmer, I do just love the fact the Pixel phones just work. In my head I think I have already made my mind up like I did with the Pixel 2 XL and Pixel 1, they are far from perfect but they do just work i.e. the fingerprint, camera and you get software updates when you need them.

The battery on the Mate 20 pro is amazing but the frustration of the fingerprint scanners and face unlock not working at times which seems to be getting more frequent has done it for me. I will probably keep the Mate 20 pro for a while to see how it improves, I got it free on a crazy blackfriday deal. Sell the Pixel 2XL and carry on with the XL3.

p.s. I'm not even noticing the notch to be honest, the YouTube videos and photos emphasis this far to much. It's not perfect and it was a bad design but I can live with it knowing I still have speakers. At the £728 price point the Pixel 3XL 128gb is reasonable, I'm glad I cancelled my original order at 969 or whatever it was. As always it pays to wait with Google to fix the bugs and drop the price.

I have always accepted there are better phones on offer but for me I could never leave the pixel line unless they really mess it up.

The camera and storage of the photos taken by the camera are a big swinger but just having android as it was intended is what I love. No bloat no skin or butchering !

Some of these big players really should consider making stock android versions.

The Pixel isn't really stock Android anymore. In my understanding an Android One phone is more stock than the Pixel, as it's based on AOSP. The Pixel has its own enhancements in these days, but I understand where you're coming from, and I tend to agree.

Ordered thanks again to the code provided by @rickjames / @Simps

Went for a Pixel 3XL 128GB & The Pixel Stand - My P2XL has been a good phone, considering I only ever used iPhones prior to that (back to the 3GS onwards) although the one thing I missed was number notifications next to the app icon, for example '123' next to Whatsapp to show messages. Anyhow was easily solved using Microsoft Launcher, but I am now tempted to go back to the stock Pixel Launcher on the P3XL, any recommended apps to have the number count without needing a different launcher? I love the gestures of Pie, thought I would hate it but actually used it from day 1 without even noticing any issue.

My Google assistant seems fine apart from in my car and connected to Bluetooth. It refuses to respond to me and I have to reach over to my dock and squeeze the phone then I can speak. Kind of defeats the point!

I've retrained it several times using high/low bits of my voice. Also finding lift to wake to be totally unresponsive and double tap to wake about a 50/50. Not worth the battery usage for ambient display...

maybe try retrain it in a better location? my 2XL is always ok at first, but over time seems to turn into my partner and ignore me.

Mine is also a bit inconsistent, although pretty much no different to any other android phone I've had. That said, don't use it much, perhaps in part, for that reason, but maybe also because I still feel like a pillock barking commands at my phone, and perhaps also because I can do tasks just as quickly manually.

:D at the bit about being like your partner!

To be fair, I use it more often when I'm driving. Is so nice to quickly say OK Google call mum on speakerphone, or whataspp Michelle saying I'm on my way.

Or direct me to the nearest subway etc.

I don't like to use it in public

Main things I'll often use it for are turning lights on/off, playing podcasts, sports scores etc. Again Home Mini has been perfect from the off. I mean, I've had it less than a week so might have to give it some time, who knows.

I might at weekend. Have not decided yet if to get a stand

Oooh, maybe I'll hang fire then! I was toying with getting the Pixel 2 but with 20% off £639 and at least £100 for my current phone, then a Pixel 3 becomes a bit more tempting!

Do I need to have this 'trust' thing set up? I don't know much about it.
