**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

Missed the announce but just had a look at the pricing on the store and they must be having a laugh with those phones. Think I'll be sticking with my U11 for another 6 months!
The slate on the other hand is very tempting indeed - will wait for reviews to surface and have a go with one before committing but does seem sweet.

Machine Learning? AI?

I dunno, just seems like the usual moaning of Android enthusiasts wanting the latest and greatest while wanting to pay the absolute minimum for it.

It's not the latest and greatest though is it? I could accept that price if they were running the new Snapdragon but running an almost year old SOC and charging a premium for it is ridiculous.

I think the price is reasonable. It's the price of manufacturers top end devices these days. Yes there is a bit of brand tax, but not much imo. I think if 3 was in the £6xx range it would be (mentally) a much easier pill to swallow.

The cameras and updates on these are great. I wouldn't buy one near launch as last year they discounted the prices within a matter of weeks of launch.

got the £75 off code via email just now. Tempting, and had me looking at the standard 3 and pixel slate. That was until I saw the i5 version was £969 plus however much for the keyboard. Doubtful the screen is even HDR. Then I wondered about just going for the pixel, but after the slate pricing I'm tempted to hang fire and look at the new upcoming ipad pros......and then I might as well look again at iPhones and get back into the ecosystem.

decisions, decisions... the home view would be awesome for me though as my house is quite 'smart'

The slate looks like it's supposed to be computer like (Intel i5, i7) but then why not get surface which has more capabilities, full apps and from the videos slate lags a lot.

Those getting the discount voucher, did you previously buy your pixel direct from google? Had both pixels now but no voucher. sad times

It’s Google’s latest and greatest though isn’t it?

Seems to me that Android owners aren’t quite prepared to buy into Google as a
brand/ecosystem and the premium price that comes with it.

Is there anything stopping Google using the latest Snapdragon?

Not sure, I started getting them after I helped out with the bluetooth issues a couple of years back. Sending lots of debug logs and basically spending far too much time on the issue.

Qualcomm typically have it ready for Feb/March time - so maybe a timing thing as the product cycles are usually planned years in advance. Also, Samsung has a habit of tying up all of their initial production of the new SoCs.

To be honest though I think they're that quick these days each generational jump doesn't seem much at all.

I think this is why indeed. I bought my 2XL from mobiles.co.uk so not even a high Street store. But I was debugging Bluetooth issues also. I also registered the phone with Google when I needed tech support for said Bluetooth issues.

Decided I'll hang fire for the OP 6T announcement. The pricing and specs should be better. I'd miss the face recognition the 5T has to offer and the Inscreen fingerprint scanner sounds great. If the camera is largely improved it will be a no brainer. If its still sub standard. I'll see what CPW can do for me with an O2 contract.

Had the same issues with my 6P and Pixel C. BT in my experience have always been absolute trash on Google devices. Mine (both mentioned devices) couldn't reliably connect to my Logitech Megabooms or crappy Chinese random manufacturer make headphones. I spent so much time sending logs to Google ages ago that I just gave up in frustration.

Recently put Lineage on the Pixel C and hey presto, all is good with BT reliability - wish I'd done it sooner. Never had a single issue with BT on MY S8+.
