**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

The problem at the moment is that it's hit and miss what colour the notification bar goes to. It's somewhat app dependant, but this appears to force it to be black effectively .

I think on the homescreen and in some other apps like maps it's fine to have the content go into the 'ears' and have the notification bar transparent - but where that isn't possible it should default back to black.

(For what it's worth, this should be an option on all phones anyway).

I don't think it would take much effort for the android Devs to do what unbox therapy chap has suggested, it would be awesome.

I am pretty sure the notch will be gone this time next year with the new flagships. It's never been something people have warned to. Either a lence that sits behind the screen or a pop up camera would be much more accepted.

Surely that's no change at all? Isn't that how it works now? The point of the video, and what we're all asking is to hide the notch AND keep notifications/icons up there. You go red and it's not hidden...

Exactly. If it goes red its pointless. So it must remain permanently black and never go to another colour.

Having popped into cpw to see the 2 devices. I'm sold on the 3xl.

It definetly does make the 2xl dated as the space is just totally unused, but on the 3xl everything other than the chin sides are totally used up by something.

Permanent black ears that can't go another other possible colour is perfect. So much so that I wouldn't mind a notch on future devices, just perhaps a slightly smaller one. The centre of my notification bar is totally empty right now doing nothing. Put a camera there and speaker and I'm happy

Amen to that. Sooner this notch silliness is history the better.

Just got back from CPH and was told 27th of November if I pre ordered today. I wasn't to bothered as I fly out to Thailand for 3 week s on the 4th so will sort out a new phone when I return

Hoping to make EE or cpw tomorrow for a play. Anyone with a xl2 had a hands on how does the screen compare. I am guessing an improvement?

Probably sold their 1st allocated batch and now people will have to wait for the second shipment. I probably wont buy from them as I have multiple options,

I could buy the phone out right if I don't go overboard with my spending in Thailand and keep my all you can eat 4g pay monthly sim from 3 but I find there is a lot of places where I don't get 4g coverage so may look at changing networks to EE and thanks to _jimlad_ providing me with a 20% code its no more expensive to spread the cost of the phone over a 24 month contract.

I did also look at the Sony XZ3 while I was in CPW and the HDR OLED screen does look better than the google but I used to have Sony phones and I much prefer a my current ZTE Axon 7 for a cleaner Androisd as Sony bundle lots of bloatware so will go for the Pixel 3.

Do not go into CPW at West Quay. I went in today as I work down the road and if you slightly knock the phones the alarm goes off but even then the sales people don't want to know. I had to wait 30 mins for Staff member and the store was not busy as only 1 other person was buying a phone.

I played with one in EE today, I found it looked good in person. I even went deep into the settings and disabled the notch, IMO it looked significantly worse this way. I'm personally waiting for the Oneplus 6T to launch but my wife has pre-ordered a 3XL from Three and will get it delivered on the 1st.
Speaking of, she is usually quite bad at handling glass phones so what's considered the best brand for screen protectors these days? Probably will go back to Spigen in terms of case.

I was on 3 for about 8 weeks and had to quit. I found them to be poor wherever I went 4g wise. In fact I have tried most networks, I find EE to be far the best for 4g when I travel for work. Vodafone who I can't stand for me seem to be second best.

Managed to get my hands on the 3/XL earlier today in a CPW. I'd already pre-ordered an XL, but wanted to try one out for size before it was too late to change my mind.

Both actually seemed smaller than I thought they would, even though the 3 is on paper the same size as my S8 - it felt a little smaller than I'd imagined. I actually preferred the size of the XL, I typically don't like the larger phones but seemed well proportioned.

Both screens seemed decent, I didn't try out the different colour modes (sRBG/adaptive etc) but they both seemed up to par of the current flagships.

The textured glass back wasn't what I was expecting, a little slippery but at least not a fingerprint magnet. Definitely nicer than just a typical glass back.

Build quality wise they were both every bit as good as my S8, and (IMO at least) the iPhone X/XS.

The notch, didn't bother me at all. When using it, I didn't really notice it that much. A couple of apps just blacked it out anyway. In photos it looks really stark - but in use it's not really something I'd be concerned about based on the brief play I had with it.
