**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

Not really. It's not a big thing, maybe it's just the general negativity of this thread is getting a bit annoying... but it's like it went like this -

- We all agree it looks rubbish red and should always be black
- UnboxTherapy makes a video saying it looks rubbish red and should always be black
- UnboxTherapy posts a Tweet showing it all black saying 'nice one Google'
- You say 'I think it will still be red'

I'm just saying, the whole point was it doesn't go red, why would Unbox post as if it's fixed if it's not? I mean it could go red still, but then I think UnboxT is a **** for misleading us all as he's effectively tweeted Google have done as we all asked.

Blame Google for putting the notch there in the first place. Dividing the users :(
I hope they take on board the negativity it has caused and ditch it next year. For people that like the notch, I bet you could put an app on that would put a notch at the top of the screen should you want it. It's a lot easier to add the notch software wise than to take the physical notch away.

I won't be commenting on the notch again now after this as I have seen the phone in person. I went to CPW yesterday afternoon to see what all the fuss is about :D
Both displays look amazing but the notch is not for me. I gave it 5 minutes to see if I could ignore it but (to me) it sticks out like a sore thumb. So anyone buying the XL, I hope you enjoy it and respect to you :)
Build quality is amazing on both phones.
I did however like the size of the 3. I still find my 2XL a tad to big coming from a Nexus 5 and having used the 2XL for 8 months I know I would like a smaller phone.
So I will see how the 3 pans out after release and maybe get that.

Not really.

yes really. we are both agreeing it should be black and nothing else.

- You say 'I think it will still be red'

As long as it permanently stays black! I'm still fearing that it'll go fugly red when using Gmail etc.

just to be clear. i'm saying, i don't just want them to match the notification black most of the time. it has to be permanent. we are agreeing on this i'm sure. at the moment the homescreen it's not black but the wallpaper extends to the top. google may see the suggestions in unbox therapy video, and go ok lets make it so on the homescreen it's blacked out, but then still allow apps to override the notification colour. to some this may be enough of a fix so they post it's fixed and the notch is hidden as it's now blacked out, forgetting to say but then when you use gmail it's red.

we are agreeing it should be black and always black.

But we are disagreeing that this is what might have happened as this is not what was asked for at any point by anyone. It really isn't that important. Lets agree we do actually disagree about something and move on. :)

Had a play with both today in cpw. The notch was not as much as an eyesore as I thought. It's identical size as the xl2 as in complete footprint. But also liked the idea of downing to the standard 3. Colours don't seem as big as issue as previous generations as it really is just the back and sides. I was never keen on the white pixel before because of the white front frame then black bezels.

I definitely thought the white looked better than the black, I also think it's better for having the colour wrapped around the side band of the phone rather than having silver or chrome.

Went in the shop earlier to have a look at these. Had a little play with both, however they were all attached to the cradles which is so frustrating when wanting to have a good feel in the hand. Screens looks great on both however on the 3XL it looked a bit yellow to me but i'm going to assume its the settings which was the reason for that. I wanted to mainly look at the notch on the XL and the size of it and im happy with my regular 3 order. The notch is actually bigger than i expected in person as well as the phone. I would absolutely struggle with it for 1 handed use and look forward to being able to comfortably manage a smaller device for a change.

Are you getting a case @AndyCr15?? Here's a video featuring Neil deGrasse Tyson I caught this morning about why he doesn't use cases. I thought you might appreciate :p

Ha ha he waffles on about it. I don't use cases much. Maybe when I go for beers or exercise.

One thing I will never do to a phone is out a screen protector on. That is like my pet hate.

Only ever broke my Nexus 4 glass back and that was when it was in my pocket.

I get a few mirco a sracthes but that's about it.

My annual upgrade is due next week so the pixel is on my list, however......

Two things conern me well 3 actually.

1, The screens brightness next to my note 8, the pixel 3 xl on max brightness was the same as 50% on my note 8. I also noticed how from about 0-50% on the pixel there was hardly any difference in brightness.

2, I have tested the video out on 4 pixel 3s so far and all have done the same here and that is bad judders when panning in the video record, bad judders and frame drops. Once you play back the video the issue is still there. I hope this is only down to the demo units.

3 The 4g ram concerns me here also will need to wait for some reviews to see how it does for ram management etc.

Overall I personally love the phone the notch no issue for me felt super smoothe in the UI front cameras are amazing rear cameras good also. I havent found a unit with any wifi to test the speakers though? Also my local currys carphonewarehouse section has units you can actually move about. The pixel feels way more premium than last years which felt real cheap to me hence why I went for the note.

The notch is an unnecessary fad, Google are just following crapple.

They made a mess with XL 2 screen with the blue tint & now the dumb notch all for £900+.

One day they will get it right, timely updates don't make up for silly design flaws.

Put the headphone jack back & ditch the notch.

1. I think this will be down to how android pie handle brightness now. It's much better and putting the correct brightness for the environment, so using the slider won't have made as much difference as it used to on top end.

2. The pixel 1 had the issue with judder when panning due to the software image stabilising over a mechanical one which I thought the now have as pixel 2 did. Would be interested in others thoughts.

Can we not just please move on. We've discussed this so many times already and it's not changing. Okay, you and others don't like the notch, we get it.

It's not copied from Apple. Some of us like the extra real estate.

It's getting a little boring now though. It's honestly making me think I should just unsub this thread or ignore even more forum members! :(

I noticed the screen brightness as well. I am hoping it's a demo thing.

I am waiting for full reviews before I order
