**** The Official Google Pixel 3 Thread ****

Wow I read people saying the bottom was louder but that is mental, when he covers the top it makes **** all difference. As above, my 2XL isn't that bad by a long way.

I'm gutted, Google have really dropped the ball with the Pixel 3/XL.
This was the exact case for the 6P too. Apparently it was by design and iirc never fixed. I couldn't actually tell the difference on mine though.

I've only seen the XL mentioned regarding the issue but I wouldn't be surprised if its both.

It's pretty obvious Google put this phone out as it was the last thing from the old Pixel team and they've now gone to the HTC team. They clearly didn't give a **** and decided this was a write off.
It certainly looks that way doesn't it.

Brightness =/= legibility.

It helps, but it's only 1 factor out of many.

Overall, the Pixel 3 XL display was rated the highest by Display Mate for reflectance, and among the highest for contrast ratio in high ambient light.

Quite right tho...

I've seen multiple reviewers comment that the screen isn't that bright outdoors. Legible but not great. Looking at the peak brightness figs compared to Samsung and Apple and it falls short by quite a margin. Something like 450cdm2 vs 650+

True, but again, if the glass doesn't reflect as much light, it doesn't matter that it isn't as bright.

Some of the most legible phones have LCDs with a top brightness of 500 Nits, which on paper you'd assume would be terrible in sunlight.

What you need is a poloarised screen for the bright outdoors like the excellent Pixel 2XL :p

I'm agreeing that the reflectance on this screen is fine. It's the brightness that is not.

The proof is in the pudding when reviewers are pointing this out. Samsung OLED's have had great reflectance for years, the brightness on this pixel is lower than on apple and Samsung phones. The actual display is pretty much the same as the note 9 and apple xs bar brightness.

I just don't understand why brightness is a problem if the phones are equally legible

Surely it's a good thing, as they'll require less power due to lower brightness?

I would suspect the brightness has been capped due to the battery
Could be. I've been doing a lot of site visits with work this week and with the bright sun we've been having (in NI anyway) I've had my brightness cranked up to 100% on my 2XL and it has absolutely hammered the battery. It's amazing the difference in power consumption between 80ish-100%.

Brightness Aslong as its legible without seriously straining is more than fine. I cant see that being an issue at all. I want to see more on the speaker department for the reg pixel 3 though. I would also hope the XL can have it balanced via a update.

This is sounding more and more of a mess.

I'm only due to upgrade in Jan / Feb, think I'm going to go for a Pixel 2 XL. Coming from a Pixel XL it should still be a nice upgrade and a lot cheaper, I only tend to upgrade every 2 years but I'll make an exception in 2019 for next years Pixel which hopefully should be better.

It definitely does seem that way, however I remember thinking the exact same thing last year with the 2XL. And then 2 weeks after release all the issues had gone or weren't even ever a thing as people expected form the reviews.

Well all remember the blue shift concern from last year, but what about the screen burn from the bottom bar icons? Anyone remember that? I'm sure there were other concerns that once in hand turned out to be a non issue.

The mic to me is by far the biggest disappointed.

Speakers I could just about accept, though I remember with my 6p being able to tell the difference when watching YouTube in horizontal view, my right ear definitely heard more than my left, but then that was what, half the price?
