**** The Official Google Pixel 4 Thread ****

I am not so fussed by battery. I guess it depends on your day and where you are but I am surrounded by fast chargers in car, home and laptop at work. It's not an issue for me and mainly been on pixels for the last 3 generations I don't have much to compare to. For me as long as it's on par with the 3xl

I must admit I think I'm going to rule myself out of getting the pixel 4 now. I'm having more trouble with the 2xl again, the search bar breaks at least once a day where it will not respond to any search query (it doesn't offer any suggestions and pressing enter doesn't do anything) and I have to restart my phone to get it working again.

Ever since I got this phone it's been plagued with mostly minor but irritating bugs and I've just had enough of being Google's beta tester. Unlike what some individuals of this forum would have you believe I am not the only one to have had issues with pixel phones and bugs. Heck even JTL in painfully honest tech on YouTube touched upon it the other day in his pixel video. And the worse thing is it's either not improving or getting worse as time goes on. Vanilla android isn't the draw it used to be, rivals are seemingly beating the big G at their own game at the moment.

Not for me I'm afraid, as a dragon would say, I'm out!

Why don't you do something about the issues ? You always moan about them.

If that was me I would rma back to Google and get a shiny new one before the warranty runs out next month. Presuming you have reset the phone and done your own testing to make sure you don't have a rougue app.

Because they're all software issues and yes I have reset this phone at least twice since I got it.

Most of the issues have been sorted with updates but it seems they fix one and cause another.

I could rma it I suppose but I just can't be bothered anymore, it's not going to solve anything. And I do apologise for moaning about a nearly one thousand quid phone not working very well... *Shrugs*

My wife uses hers daily and I had it for 12 months before. I had none of those issues and they seem rare. So rma it Monday and you will have a new one by Thursday

Having switched between iOS and Android pretty much every year for the past 6 years, I would say Android (stock Android or something by OnePlus) feels equally polished compared to iOS.

For me, there are no more app crashes on one system compared to the other, no more bugs and are both generally poor during a new release.

Having said that, Google have poorer QC on hardware. iPhones have been considerably more reliable on the hardware front compared to OnePlus/Google phones I’ve owned.

I think both OSs are great for different reasons. On one hand, the consistency of iOS is great. But, it does mean when Apple want to kill off a feature, that’s it. On the other, Android is immensely versatile.

Since iOS 13, 3D Touch has become almost irrelevant, even in areas where Haptic touch isn’t viable. They just remove the feature entirely so the user won’t miss it. That’s infuriating and feels unfair. Also, rich text on Safari is broken. Still.

Google have a different issue. They have no clear goal of what they want Android to be. One year, they’re doing great. Oreo was a fab release. Pie made me sell my Pixel 2XL. 10, on my girlfriends Pixel, makes me want the 4. But the gesture system sucks. Shame Samsung’s skin sucks so much. It’s just so unbelievably poor. I can’t stand anything that makes my >£700 device feel cheap, and OneUI feels exactly that. Stuttering and lag = goodbye.

I’ll be getting a 4 for sure, but there’s a chance I may end up with iOS again next year if Google introduce another terrible OS next year with more UI changes. Again.

What is it about the gestures you don’t like?

Everything.

It's a half baked effort, because they know how difficult it's going to be to implement it, since Android was built from the ground up with the 3 buttons in mind.

The fact that Apple never had a back button has helped them transition to a fully gesture based system. Android need to get around the fact that many apps used the hamburger menu system.

Normally, I find iOS to be very harsh and clunky with animations etc, but the gestures on Android feel exactly that, unlike the rest of the system which feels very fluid and buttery.

Chicken and the egg situation, I guess.

I just wish the S10 / note / p30 could run stock or pixel software however you want to call it. I am not talking about work arounds with launchers and rooting. Just stock. You format.. download and install.

As that's what I do when I buy a Windows laptop. Remove the crap !

I remember the Google play edition galaxy S4 was it ?

Is the Pixel 3/3XL still locked into its proprietary fast wireless charging? That would be one feature I would have to see overhauled to even consider a 4/4XL.

Just bought herself a S10+ after she goosed her 3XL screen... _really_ not liking it, other than the hardware. OS just sucks compared to Pixel!

Although I've picked up an iPhone 11 myself, I'm still tempted by a Pixel 4 just for the hell of it. Looking forward to drinking the Kool-aid on the unveil next week...

Just out of curiosity, what do you think is worse compared to the pixel? Launcher and icons aside, I don't see that much difference and most of the Samsung apps can be removed or disabled.

Besides the things you’ve mentioned, there’s a general usage friction that just isn’t there on the Pixel... yes, Pixel is a fair bit simpler to a degree, but some of the preset behaviour around things like opening attachments from Outlook emails got in the way several times before it was tamed in a way the Pixel would just open otherwise. It just doesn’t feel as polished or well behaved as the Pixel really!

I know it’s my 10 pence worth, and others may disagree, but where I’ve been able to hand her a Pixel 2 then a 3XL (rip screen), everything’s just worked for her, and she’s got on with it. This simply hasn’t been the case with the S10+ in the 10 days I’ve been playing with it and helping her change over.

Thats fair enough, I was just curious. Having had my Pixel 3 for a year I had to RMA it, so got me looking. Now with the Note10 I'm appreciating the variety in options out of the box samsung give you - once you get past the default state Samsung gives you I don't really see much OneUI specifically.

I'd definitely give a Pixel another go sometime, I'm just a bit frustrated by google as a whole at the moment due for a variety of reasons - the pixel doesn't have as big of a draw for me :p

My tech magpie tendencies mean I'll likely end up with a Pixel 4 of some description, despite picking up an iPhone 11 the other week! I'm a sucker like that...

That was my experience as well. Only had one for a week before I returned it. Hardware and looks is amazing. The pixel experience is just what I like. I appreciate others would not care as much and would enjoy the extra things that come with Samsung's for example.

As I said I wish you could format and stock install on phones like you can with windows on any device.

Can not wait til launch day <3. I've had pixel XL since launch, wife's got the 2. Amazing phones.
Ssevans, is that you?? :p

In all seriousness have you used the 2XL or the 3/3XL? I loved my XL but since then (with the exception of the 2 which definitely wasn't winning any design awards) it's been a steady downhill decline.
I'd love the 4 to be a hit as I'd be keen on it myself but I'm prepared for inevitable disappointment. Looking forward to launch all the same.
