**** The Official Google Pixel 4 Thread ****

El snipparini.

Balanced reporting from a tech enthusiast is a great thing, especially when they engage in discussion. The issue in this thread has been the refusal to discuss. A 2800mah battery is a terrible design decision. An enthusiast reports real world results, while others try to shut down criticism.

I said it above - if Google got rid of Soli and made a beautiful device that showcased Android with no ridiculous bezels and with an all day battery, it would have been a great device. You can see it in every review. People WANT to love the Pixel 4 but they feel let down by apparently bizarre design choices that a college student wouldn’t have made.

People will defend the Pixel and ignore its flaws on the basis that it has an amazing camera and stock android, other manufacturers wouldn't get away with it. You could definitely see it as fanboism, or just taste. That said, if these are your priorities when picking a phone, then fair enough. For those who don't want this and are fine with an OK camera, there are plenty of other choices :)

again that is your view. i don't i have any issues with the design. and looks is not a big deal for me. (granted many better looking phones) it's not something i show to people on a daily basis. what i show often to people are the amazing pic's it takes. what i use daily is the full suite of google apps and the pixel experience without any overlays or bloat crap on my phone.

said it before its about ticking as many boxes as you can in a phone market that can't tick them all. my honest view is the Pixel 4XL is the best phone .... for me. i advised a close friend to go for a S10 or oneplus only today. it will tick more boxes for him.

A bigger one would have been nice but yesterday I went to bed at 23.30 with 19% remaining, phone was unplugged around 7.15 in the morning. Screen on time was just shy of 4.5hrs, Considering that generally my screen on time is a bit over an hour the battery life should be perfectly adequate for me. Sure on a busy/ long day I might need to top it up but every phone I ever had needed a top up on busy days.

I caved and ordered one off eBay for £630 but used the £50 off code that was emailed out yesterday so £580 in total. Once I've sold my Pixel 3 the total cost to upgrade won't be too high and CPW were offering £250 for trade in for it so selling private should be at least equal to that.

All the shortcomings of the Pixel 4 aren't issues for me really as I've never pined after waterfall displays, or lots of storage as I stream all my music and have never contemplated watching a film from a small display. I'm also the complete opposite to most people in terms of never being in a situation where I wanted an UW lens, but I've been in plenty where I've needed more reach.

I like the look of OnePlus devices and the software isn't an eyesore like Samsung's OneUI that looks like it has been designed by someone who only had PowerPoint to use and within that, only access to the rounded rectangle shape.

However, their camera performance is always disappointing because they don't have the computational photography experience of other manufacturers. It's a shame as they would be a good choice for me otherwise.

Having had a Oneplus device in the past I really don't like them.

I can understand Flossy choosing the Pixel 4XL.

I know it's all personal choice.

I am really happy with my 4 XL.

It's way better than the 2 XL & no awful notch.

There does seem to be a lot of dislike for the Pixel though.

Flossy's arguments for it were the camera and wireless charging but he absolutely destroys the Pixel 4 in his review. I can see pictures from my wife's 3XL everyday and I find them really amazing. BUT... I paid £699 for a OnePlus 7 Pro with 4000mAh battery, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, a stock-like OS and a quick android 10 update. For that price I could only get the base 64GB Pixel 4.
Every purchase decision is made of choice and compromise so my choice was to live with an OK camera and have an overall better device. Then again I don't take many pictures so I totally get why it would be a priority for people who are photography enthusiasts.

Good deal. Might do that myself actually.

That Flossy Carter review is savage, it's mind-blowing that he'd still pick it over a OnePlus 7 Pro.

even if the pixel 4 was worse than it already is, he would have chosen it anyway, he has to have the latest models and had no choice to rock the pixel 4, hence why he slates it but then chooses it over the Oneplus.

have you ever seen flossy skip a generation handset?

It's way better than the 2 XL

That will do for me.

I’ve decided that even though the lack of wide angle lens is a disappointment, at the same time, you can work around the issue with photosphere, and every review I’ve read where the camera has an ultrawide has stated that the quality is somewhat lacking compared with the main lens. The zoom looks phenomenal on these from what I’ve seen, and the photos still to my eyes look the most pleasing produced by any phone, and I couldn’t really give a monkeys about the video quality, its adequate and I’m not a YouTuber!
