**** The Official Google Pixel 4 Thread ****

I've got one coming today too. I like the idea it's as thin as possible. I would only use it now and then, I like to have one available, but generally I go naked, especially with a great looking, uniquely coloured device like this (in my opinion :) )

Battery update. Yesterday was a full on day for the phone, barely resting. Tracking jogging, playing music, SatNaving with no power plugged in, lots of photos and video. It made it to 9½ hours. Given how much I used it, I wasn't overly disappointed. I charged it up 82% in an hour and was back out. I was a little surprised though, I burnt 42% over the next 4 hours, of what I would call medium use. Some photos/video, a little gaming and a fair bit of down time.

Today will be the opposite. Nice slow day, not much use of the phone, I'll generally be home on my PC or watching TV. I've turned off the always on ambient display, just on lift/reach. I've turned off Ambient EQ and Smooth Display. Let's see how today goes!

What do you do to get the phone to try your face if it seems to have failed? With my finger I get a vibrate that it failed, and I lit and try again. What do you for faceunlock?

Often I like to read my notifications from the lock screen and even reply/mark read/delete from there.

When the phone face unlocks automatically, do you lose the lock screen? Or do you still have to swipe away?

Sometimes ill do something on my phone, click turn off screen and straight away remember I forgot to do something, so unlock with finger and back in. How does it work with face unlock? I only just locked it, and I haven't moved the phone away. At the speed it is, will it instantly try and unlock my phone? If it does, then what happens at the times I didn't want it to unlock? How do I stop it unlocking?

I thought this as used to the finger fail every now and then. Normally when I eating with greasy hands. You get that haptic feedback to say nope..

Well with the face it just works. It seems to know and there is no equivalent of the finger fail.

Does anyone have any reservations about using a Chinese phone, or is there a difference between OnePlus and Huawei?

If you believe all the stuff flying around then it was more aimed at Huawei technologies than the Chinese phone in general.

And tbh all phones are from China. No matter what the company says. :)

From what I can see, Google have basically broken this in Android 10. Maybe text and phone still show detail, but 3rd party you now just get an icon, even with it selected in settings to show all details. What I realise you have to now do, is swipe down the notification bar and you can read or operate from there. I much preferred how it was that I could power on, read a WhatsApp and power off again.

The free chromebook offer is valid 'until the 28th October', meaning I can go get the phone tomorrow and will still get the Chromebook? Meant to go in today but things haven't turned out the way I wanted. Could just order online but would rather go in-store tomorrow if I can.

With face unlock, if you power on, does it auto unlock and go to your last screen, so removing the notifications lock screen ever being useful as it'll auto see your face and unlock any time the phones pointing towards you?

Wait until you go on holiday, wear caps,, hats, glasses etc. I imagine those times are when you'll notice faceunlock failing. But what happens then. How do you get it to try again?

I guess first of all, what would you say is useful? Icons are enough for you? In which case, if you're not pointing it at your face, you can see them. Point it at your face and mine just unlocks and goes to homescreen (or whatever) but there is an option 'Skip lock screen' which I have enabled.

I'm on android 10 and you get icons and the message. I then as you said before expand them and can delete, reply, etc. But while I'm trying a reply, on p4 it'll unlock and the lock screen auto goes and lose the half reply I had done

Can’t you set it so it displays the lock screen when it unlocks rather than skipping to the desktop? That’s how I would have mine setup as the iPhone system makes sense to me (especially when you don’t have notification icons as in iOS). If the phone went straight to the home screen I’d have an extra swipe to see what was in the notifications so swings and roundabouts which way is best.

You're on stock Android 10 and can read things like WhatsApp messages from the lock screen?

Really? That setting doesn't work?

Mind you, even if it does, as I said, as far as I can see you can't read and reply from the lock screen.

Okay, is transcribe only for the Americans? I don't get an option to transcribe any recordings at all, pretty bummed out as this was one of the main features I needed for University.
