**** The Official Google Pixel 4 Thread ****

Thoughts? I honestly don't think I see a difference, but some people (like MKBHD) swear by 90hz screens.

If you’re scrolling through a source that is jittery for other reasons (e.g. a website that’s packed with adverts or is loading in new data on the fly) then the 90hz effect won’t be so noticeable.

And of course if the device is changing the refresh rate for whatever reason, it’s going to muddy the waters.

I'm currently somewhere in between on it.
Is it noticeable? Absolutely.
Is it appreciable? Not sure.
I don't game on my phone at all so that is obviously one area where I'm missing out on the virtues of 90hz. I definitely notice it when scrolling through the phone menus but give me my S10e back and after about 5 minutes I've forgotten about 90hz already.

I’ve got an iPad Pro 12.9 with a 120Hz screen, and honestly, it’s nice, but I definitely wouldn’t rule out a device just because it was ‘only’ 60Hz. In actual fact the XR I’m currently borrowing has a very smooth looking screen to me and that’s only 60Hz. To be honest if I go for the 4XL I may even consider disabling 90Hz altogether for the better battery life and the fact that there seem to be numerous issues with it anyway (can’t use at low brightness with black crush, some apps don’t support it, and just the fact that it’ll probably run at 60Hz more often than not anyway).

Been using my 4XL since Friday evening - I am on full gesture mode now, I was using 2 button on the 3XL and couldn't believe it was no longer an option on the 4XL... 3 button or gesture... Didn't want 3 button so figured gesture is the future, used to it already to be fair.
Battery wise, a big improvement from the 3XL but then my 3XL battery was not very good IMO.

Yeah I have noticed battery is way better than the 3xl so pleased on that front.

Received my Pixel 4 this morning and I'm really impressed so far. It feels like there's some more finesse vs the Pixel 3 in terms of how solid the phone feels in hand and the smoother display.

Face unlock is brilliant and is something I've wanted with stock Android since the iPhone launched FaceID.

I'm actually finding the gestures to be reliable too but I'm not sure if that's down to an update to the 'Motion sense bridge' app that could have come out post all of the reviews, or perhaps I've taken pointers from all the reviews in terms of how to gesture. I find your gesture has to be quick and deliberate, although I'm finding it more hit and miss for the previous music track gesture.

Out of interest, anyone wear polarised sunglasses and use this phone? I take it you can still see the screen?

Pretty sure it's only LCD screens that don't play ball with polarised sunglasses. Amoled screens work differently and don't "dissapear"

I went for the normal Pixel 4, not the XL version.
Finding the battery is fine, about the same if not better than my 3XL

Had 51% battery left at 2:30pm with 3hrs screen on time and about an hour of phone calls (some of those calls using bluetooth).
Not sure on a final figure because I had it plugged in on the way home as it was a 2hr drive and needed Google maps

Overall I'm really liking it. Android is very smooth and polished on this phone and the gesture controls are nice & easy after the initial 5 minutes of adjusting to not having buttons :)
