**** The Official Google Pixel 4 Thread ****

Correct. I've just got my 2XL back from RMA so I'm waiting to see if any good deals materialise, and just wanted to gauge opinions so far... and so far so good it seems, as long as ones expectations are set accordingly!

Yea, I haven't completely ruled them out either. I've been offshore since launch and really need to get a look at them in person.

Having missed the Chromebook deal, I can't buy at the current price even if I do decide to take the plunge. It just feels like they should be discounted by £150 at least before a purchase can be justified now.

Yep, I'm the same. I like it, but I just don't think it's worth the current price, personally... I will look out for some decent carrier deals though, if I can get a similar price I was paying for my 2XL (low 30's/month with a nominal upfront) then I may take a chance on it.

May as well wait for black Friday now. Sure to be some good deals around then.

mobiles.co.uk have the 64GB Pixel 4XL for a total cost of £1084 over 2 years (EE Upgrade) - £31pm for the contract + £340 upfront for the handset. Contract itself is 20GB data, plus the usual EE "extras". Go via Quidco and you get £30 odd cashback too. As an EE customer, that's quite tempting, as it's over £300 cheaper than buying the handset outright and sticking with my current SIMO plan. Can't see it being reduced by £300 during Black Friday?

Same monthly cost as my 2XL, but unfortunately that upfront cost is too steep for me, especially for the 64Gb version.... I'll hang on, I can only see prices going south tbh

Call EE and they should match that. That's what i did.

I just got my first look at these in store, they look utterly dated, like a handset from 2 or 3 years ago. The forehead is horrendous.

My love affair with Pixel is over, there's no way I'm buying one of these latest models.

I assume apps need to be written to use Face ID? Moving from a Pixel 2 XL and re-setting up all my apps, especially banking apps, has been a chore lol. I don't know any of my details because I always just used my finger print. However, the only app so far that has given me the option to use biometrics is lastpass.

Another stinker review for the Pixel 4. That battery simply isn't fit for purpose, especially if you travel frequently.

Hate to say it, but other than the original pixel they've all been crap. Pixel 2 had the blue shift and daft side bezels making the screen look a bit recessed. Pixel 3 XL had the daft notch, and now the 4 with the massive forehead. I wouldn't mind, but the lack of effort and detail going in to these expensive phones is very poor.....and I'm a google fan!

That said, my 7 Pro is a bit buggy (maybe needs a reset) so...

Apparently they just need to change support from fingerprint to the biometric API. It's the way the developers have written the apps that's a problem; unfortunately it could take them a while to get around to it, especially with less popular handsets like the Pixel.

I'm starting to be concerned all phones are a bit crap. I seem to have bother with all of them. With that in mind, I honestly feel like just buying the cheapest phone I can get that does the things I want and just get a separate camera, because none of them seem worth the money. When I pay up to £1,000 or more for something, I expect it to work well, not perfectly, but well, and my experience is that the only phone that does that is an iPhone, and I found I don't like those anyway, not to mention the astonishing price tag. When something only costs £200 or less, you can more easily forgive the bugs, but not at this sort of level.

I am officially disillusioned with the whole smartphone game now.

Said before there is no perfect phone. Just tick as many boxes as you can for what you need.

I think they are quite stylish. The forehead has the tech in which is quite useful so far. I prefer that to a notch.

It's not like the design has come as a surprise, the thing has been leaked for months on end and Pixel handsets have never been at the forefront of sleek design.

Right now, people have to make a choice between additional bezel to house the sensors, having a notch or having motorised parts coming out of the top.

Personally a phone is function over form to me. Take the Mate 30 Pro as an example, we're now seeing volume rockers removed from the side of a device in order to get waterfall displays. Madness.

I've seen the leaks, but it's when you actually hold it in your hand that you appreciate how awful it looks. And what does that forehead bring? Swiping my hand to change tracks in Spotify!

I appreciate we all have different expectations, but the Pixel really doesn't meet mine any more. Even if I could look past the terrible aesthetics, the software bugs and sub standard battery life are another negative. I also can't see me taking many photos of the Milky Way.

Maybe do some research on project soli. Also what are these software bugs you speak of ? Battery issues don't effect the XL

Keen to know what phone you think is perfect ?
