**** The Official Google Pixel 4 Thread ****

Said before there is no perfect phone. Just tick as many boxes as you can for what you need.

Yeah I agree, but I would just like a phone that doesn’t want to make me hurl it through the nearest window. That would do. It seems beyond my ability to find such a device. My old S7 Edge was OK. Maybe I should just go back to a Samsung.

I've seen the leaks, but it's when you actually hold it in your hand that you appreciate how awful it looks. And what does that forehead bring? Swiping my hand to change tracks in Spotify!

I appreciate we all have different expectations, but the Pixel really doesn't meet mine any more. Even if I could look past the terrible aesthetics, the software bugs and sub standard battery life are another negative. I also can't see me taking many photos of the Milky Way.

No, the forehead brings face unlock too and the sensors that enable that are the same size as the radar chip. Show me a phone that has face unlock that doesn't either have a notch, motorised pop up part or a slide up back panel. Also as mentioned in this thread and any half decent review, Soli isn't just about gestures, it makes the phone self aware and this allows the phone to turn off AOD when you're not around and also enables the face ID tech as you reach for the phone.

At best you're ignorant about the phone, as proven by the fact you think the large top bezel is purely down to Soli, at worst you're just trolling.

It's akin to knowing that OnePlus phones have poor cameras due to their post processing, only to go into a OnePlus thread when I've got zero interest in the phone and continually mentioning that they have poor camera quality.

I think people get annoyed because they know what could have been. Google could make an absolutely awesome phone yet every year something lets it down.

HTC used to make some really nice looking phones yet where are the design engineers? I know looks aren't everything but the mismatch between top and bottom bezels just looks trash. It's what we expect from cheap android phones. There still isn't a killer android phone. Why isn't Google taking the fight to Apple.

Samsung make great phones but crap software
Google make great software but crap phones
OnePlus make great phones but software buggy and average camera.

The phone id really like is something like an iPhone with Google's software :D and camera.....but not the video part.

I live in the Google ecosystem. Homes, hubs, WiFi, Chromecast, nest heating, cameras, doorbell, storage plan, YouTube premium. I want a pixel!

Google need a slap...I want them to wow me. Take my money god damn it.

Maybe next year.

Whoa, easy there fella. This here is Pixel town or didn’t you know? Folks round here don’t appreciate strangers coming from the big city full of their big city ideas like “decent batteries” or “hey that bezel looks dumb” or even “shouldn’t that 90hz come on all the time”. Git back to your avocado on toast.

I think you'll be waiting a long time because I don't believe Google want to compete with Samsung or Huawei on the perceived hardware front.

They've had three generations of Pixel sales to judge demand and what reviews/people are saying seeing as their whole premise is trawling the net. If they haven't decided to change course by changing their release cycle to have the absolute latest SoC, upping the RAM and storage to match the flagships from other manufacturers then I don't believe they have any intention to.

I'm not sure the general public care all that much about matching bezels, the iPhone X launched to much fanfare , sold incredible volumes and the top and bottom of the phone looked completely different due to the bezel.

Or people get fed up of reading the same misinformed dross over and over again. "Lolz it has unsymmetrical bezels because of the ability to wave your hand" when the sensors for face unlock are just as big, therefore Soli doesn't add to the bezel at all.

You only have to look at all Pixel releases prior to the 4 and the leaks to know that this wasn't going to be a phone with bleeding edge specs, yet people act shocked.

People also react in shock and horror at the price when again, Pixels prior are released as RRPs similar to other flagships but end up being marked down fairly quickly in comparison.

Well the S10 and note 10 are fantastic phones. I went pixel because because I enjoy the stock flow. But unlike some people in this thread I can appreciate the plus points on other phones. The both the S10 and Note tick many boxes, from design, storage, screen, camera and specs. If you enjoyed the S7 then the S10 range sounds like a good option

I think it's only fair to defend something you like. No one forced me to purchase the pixel 4 XL. So I did it out of choice. Because I weighed it up and liked it. I also have or had 14 days to return it. Which was not even a thought in the first 8 days I have had it.

I am in a position where I could have chosen any phone on the market and I tend to upgrade every year. Went for pixel and no regrets. So yeah when you get pointless trash talk it becomes a little dull. I can see the pros and cons to most flag ships. People just need to choose what is right for them.

Solid phone got my mate to order the pro last week. Much better option for him as he does not use for pictures.

Yep, same here. I don't use any social media at all so take very few pictures day to day. I do take lots of snaps on holiday, so there's a compromise there. I'm considering going for a separate camera for holidays, but maybe the OnePlus will be okay for me and I won't need to go down that route.

I actually take lots of video on holiday too, and the Pixel has been garbage for video so I was already compromising.

OnePlus has buggy software? Software is what gets them the most praise!

Yeah just grab another camera for holiday and you will be grand

My friend works at EE and had Google people over to go over the new Pixel. Just gave him the usual spiel about superior AI app management hence why they don't need higher capacity batteries in their phones.

I just don't get what people expect from a phone? Why does it need to have the latest Snapdragon chip? What exactly would that do that the one in the 4 doesn't? It's like reviewers pick out the most stupid things at times, 6GB ram, so what? I didn't have a problem with 4GB in the 3XL I had, yet some reviews moaned it wasn't using 8 or 12GB like others, which obviously are poorly memory managed to need that much at the moment!

The phone looks better without the notch in my view, more classic pixel looking, and the rear camera square better than the iPhones "ceramic cooker hob" design.
The Samsung looks the best in terms of multi camera design at the back.

Having used the 4XL over a week now, the only thing I'd have liked would have been the ultra wide lense on the rear, and perhaps the front dual selfie cam from the 3XL kept, albeit it's still decent on the 4. Other than that it ticks all the boxes.

The only other phone that would compete is the iPhone 11 Pro Max , but that's not for me.
