**** The Official Google Pixel 4 Thread ****

Need an ultrawide lens and then I'll be interested, surely they won't be insane enough to skip that on the Pixel 5 in 2020?

Don't care if they go midrange SoC but hopefully give up this stupid habit of sticking underpowered batteries in their devices, surely they learn by now that they don't have the IOS level of optimisation. I mean even Apple are sticking bigger batteries in now.

A midrange chip should hopefully mean more room for a larger battery (we can hope!).

This helped me make up my mind. I’ll wait for the 5/ Sony Xperia ii and see from there.

I feel the battery should be better on the XL.

What setting though? anything turned off?

Trying mine with ambient display off and connecting to 2.4ghz wi fi, see if the 5ghz was draining it,

Everything on. Bluetooth with smart watch and Fit running too. Motion sense, AOD etc all on.

No Facebook if that matters, but other than that pretty much standard.

Honestly no issue with the XL from my side battery or performance wise.

It’s good to know. I’m still uncertain but after having read reviews and countless reddit threads, it does seem the battery on the XL isn’t bad at all and reviewers are some what exaggerating it.

I wanted to ask, does anyone use a smart watch with their pixel? If so which one?

EDIT: managed to find a month old 4 xl for cheap. I bought it on the basis of that these YouTubers are definitely exaggerating the battery life issue. Hopefully it does me well.

It does, and so does the Gen 5.

Get the Gen 5 out of the two, it has more RAM. If I didn't already have the gen 4 I'd have got the 5, but the upgrade isn't worth the cost.

Well my pixel came today. Will update how I get on with battery life but do prefer the XL over the smaller 4 I had.

I got my regular 4 yesterday. Loving the small size. Shall also report back on battery life.

So far at 72%. 1hr 30mins SOT and 5hrs since it came off charge.

I'm still loving my Pixel 4, the device size and flat screen are big pluses to me and the 90hz display is tangible. Obviously it's not perfect, battery life certainly could be a lot better and an ultra wide lens would be nice.

In regards to battery, I've had GSam batter monitor installed for a long time and it's saying I'm averaging 3hrs 20 mins screen on time which isn't great, but those raw numbers only tell half the story. Since lockdown I'm on video calling apps quite frequently with friends and family and that kills any battery.

Here's hoping the Pixel 5 sees improvements in battery size. I wouldn't be fussed personally if there wasn't any improvements in video or a wide angle camera as I don't really shoot video, but understand why for the initial price tag, people deride the Pixel when these things are not keeping with the competition.

Just been out getting my daily exercise & took my Pixel 4XL with me & i forget just how annoying the button placement is for using them as a shutter button.
I kept pressing the power button when taking a picture. The volume button is so far down that when using it to take a picture you cover the screen with your hand.

It really is an annoying design.

Depends what you are used to ... For me it's been that way for years. I am sure you will get used to it

Regular Pixel 4 battery update.

A heavier day than usual being weekend and at home. It lasted through the day with a mixture of usage.

I can see how if you hammered the phone on a commute it would struggle. For me it's no issue.

SOT 5hours 22minutes.

Battery level at 7%.

Does this seem ok for a pixel 4 xl? Moderate usage.

I can get 7hours + hammering my iPhone 11.

EDIT: 19 hours last charge.

5hours 42minutes sot @ 3%

iPhone 11 has a low res screen and 60hz.

As a comparison I'm getting 6 to 7 hrs SoT on a OnePlus 8 pro @ QHD+/120hz over day to day and a half.

I don't buy into that. The XL should get you a full day. To me it does not matter if the day ends with 20%, 30% or 1%. As you will have to charge it if you want the next day

If your spending 8 hours screen on time in a day... Maybe have a rethink how you spend your day :D

Without knowing the setup of your device you can't say for sure, but yeah 5+ hours of SOT? That's about right for a 4XL IMO.
