sometimes yes, sometimes no. unless you are in cockpit or bonnet cam then its not always easy to hear and because it changes with every car, its not immediately obvious.

Best thing to do is practice mate, use the default dial view its best for learning and you should be able to hear it ok. Youll find easily you remember, that 5th gear is 131mph, bit like that. You even find reference points in the game when to change. Try and race your own ghost to get upto speed.

Id say a wheel takes about 10 hrs to get used to as the turning in feels different to a pad as does correcting the car.

mr latte i agree it is a practice situation

but like i say, unless u do cockpuit view and literally have a nice big rev counter and then the hand gestures its not easy for me to be slick rick with it. i worry that non premium cars with no interior view will hamper me

but at the same time as wanting to practice, i dont want to burn myself out on GT5P and be bored for GT5 for real.

also, i bought a steel stand for my wheel (computer stand) was no good so i returned it. then i bought a Speedblack Evo stand - but It was A, welded at an angle, B, the bolts all stripped the heads putting the thing together, and even worse removing them. C, not 100% sturdy for E. Norwand on the twisty hairpins.

So now im back to square 1, no wheel stand (except a desk of drawes I sometimes rip a-part to use) and im torn between a Fanatec Rennesport stand and the Wheel Stand Pro!

Strange in what your saying.
Ive found cockpit view on many cars its actually harder to see the dials.

Default view with a massive big rev counter onscreen with digital and analogue speeds is going to be easier combined with the audio than reacting to a moving animated hand, surely?

Personally Ive found some cockpit views are restricted and usually in the past have been able to go a little quicker using the default view. The cars dash and "A Pillars" can obstruct corners etc. I do however take notions and sometimes really like the interiors depending on the car.

Thats not just with GT5P, one of my fave PGR3 cars was the TVR Sagaris and its cockpit viewpoint was terrible.

The WSP is more popular but both are good products.
