The Official GRAW Thread

You dont just leave them to follow you.
You have to issue them orders in order to use them to their best. Once you learn to do this you will find the game a lot easier.

Band of brothers?
Dont you mean Brothers in Arms?

Sorry brother in arms.

I’m not finding the game that hard I just wish that your squad mates had a bit more savvy about them, and along with the rubbish squad interface its a lot easier to do half the missions solo. They are more of a hindrance than a help and it’s not about learning to give orders, I’ve played plenty of squad based games like this and I just feel that the interface lets it down big time.

In brothers in arms the squad interface was a squish to use but at the same time effective, your squad mates also didn’t stand out in the open when they came under fire, they hunted out cover and didn’t need baby fed orders every two seconds.

GRAW with BIA interface = w1n.

Dont know if its been mentioned already, but a huge boost in performance can be had by uninstalling the AGEIA PhysX drivers completely, even though you are told you need to install them anyway.

Also, got a nice boost by updating to the latest Nvidia beta drivers, the 84.43's.

It's actually pretty playable now on my system and doesn't look as bad in the graphics department.

Now, if I can just get the hang of the AI and try not to get my team mates standing out in the open all the time.

So far im on the third level, things are moving really really to fast for me to make good use of the squad control system via the map.

Spend a few seconds (maybe 10-15) setting up waypoiints and getting people into position and it turns out theres only two guys at the place im supposed to attack, its just not worth it. You cant really plan ahead because you cant see the whole battlefield, the sattelite is limited to around your area only so you cant plan for example: Two men go right, sneak upfrom the west side to the main objective area while the other two attack from the south.

It can still be fun though. I hope in the next one they do more open areas like woodland or something, that way you can put some real thought into it. Make it more special forces maybe? More planning.

Have to say I was somewhat disapointed by the demo, yes I play CSS but I expect games like this to be more reaslitic.

However (and I do no mean this to be offensive to anyone) but it feels like they found a cripple, tied his knees together, made him only able to think about one thing at a time and then tried to make him a hero of a FPS.

The controls are cumbersome to say the least, I never known anyone have such trouble lieing down or getting up again or trying to hold a gun and move at the same time.

The poor responsiveness I am hoping are due to graphics lag (despite having X2 @ 2.5ghz and 7800GTX in SLI + 2gb of ram) I am gonna try peoples suggestions in this thread with updated driver versions and uninstalling the AGEIA rubbish.

Improve Graphics for GRAW
======================

I don't know if anyone on here has found this already, but I shall post it anywho.

A quick google brought up this answer for me, http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=74456&pid=1363936773&st=0&#entry1363936773

Basically (taken from above)...

Anyway, too all you who still complains about the medium textures settings here is a guide that will help you out.

1) Right click on the renderer_settings and click Edit with "Whatever program your using (Noteblock for example)

The file should be located here.
Programs/ubisoft/Demo/GhostReconAdvancedWarfighterDemo/Data/settings

2) When your inside and looking on the script, just change all the medium and low written lines to high.
Save the folder and it should work just fine! Did for me at least...

P.s Remember to make an backup of the old renderer_settings file before configurating it.

I've tried it and everything looks a lot better, still the jaggies, but much more detailed imo. Lots of options to fiddle with (plant, gun, debris, model, world detail, etc etc etc). :)

Two quick screen shots (originally 1280x1024 with x8AF).

Thanks.

I know these spec testers can be a bit useless but for the curious there's a spec tester for GR:AW >here<. Scroll down and it's under Tom Clancys Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter My oldish system passed, so happy days.

Regarding the demo and graphics, apparently the full game runs smoother. It's knocking about on the t'interweb and the full version has got good reviews to go with the PC Mags / online reviews. My friend has tested it with a single 6800GT with things turned up and that ran perfectly fine.

The Domination gametype for MP looks very interesting. Bit like TKOTH but with linked zones. Image :

I wouldnt mind a few more checkpoints, or maybe if they added something like save credits, you get 1 or 2 credits each level and they allow you to save when ever you want, that would be nice.

I am probably missing something here guys.

I'm reading on the internet that people with 7800Gts and 6800Ultras and the uber cards are having difficulty playing this game. But my x800xl 432/984 is making mince meat of this @ 1024*768

I'm not getting it! :p

I know what you mean, I posted this on another forum:

First my system:

P4 2.8c @ 3.2
Asus P4c800e
2gb dual ddr Corsair XMS3500 (4x512)
BFG 6800gs AGP - @ 410/1150 all pipes unlocked 84.43 betas
Not as uber as it used to be:(

When I first loaded up & videocard was detected I had slow frames (20ish) so I thought I'd have a play around with the settings, as you do.
I'm getting between 30-60 now which is acceptable & playable on my system & it looks fine, for me anyway.

Here's what I've set in game:

1024x768
Textures = medium
AF = 8X
Effects = Medium
Shadows & lights = off
Post effects = medium

I've also tweaked the .xml file a bit.
I noticed that frames jumped up @10-15 when running (not rendering the weapon) so I changed all weapons textures to low & set sky textures to low too.
Overall I'm happy with it, I knew I wouldn't be able to run it at max with my system anyway, so I'm not going to grumble.

I haven't played SP much as I'm not one for controlling squads, it's MP I enjoy & that is good so far.
Gotta do something about 'game over when squad leader dies' though:/

Some pics, good enough & they lost a bit from .bmp to .jpg:

Swagger
Higher frames without weapon, hence hacking textures
Need to mess with colour profiles, add some DV & gamma?
I'm gonna die :(
Boom!

It's even better on 1280x1024 now that the 6800 has been replaced by a 7800gs Bliss 512mb ;)

Nice shots :)
Nice 7800 :D

I tried messing about with the settings xml and put everything that was on low/medium on high. I found that i got higher details but the game was borked. It had black walls, floors etc. So i reverted back to the old xml and everything fine :)

Stupid question, when you press 1, 2 or 3 to select player, the list of commands come up. When I try pressing F1 - F5 nothing happens. How do I tell them to attack/cover me/charge in/take evasive action :p etc!?

Cheers :D

those keys do not work in the demo version at least, you have to use the map. I wonder if it's fixed in the full version, it's definatley a game I'm interested in buying as I found it quite enjoyable.

ugh.
The domination gametype is woeful.

Why make a run & gun gametype for a game thats slow & tactical?
Sheesh.

Plus, servers are useing a max deaths of 5, it doesnt help when all 5 deaths come from the opposite team camping the spawn points and just mowing you down straight away.

Oh well.

After lots and lots of tweaking and driver testing I finaly got the game playable. On the MayDay mission now, what a **** of a mission this is, MG's everywhere.

I've got to admit it is a little difficult :)
And a little annoying keep pressing tab and ordering your team mates
I will be buying it though. Oh, BTW how do you change weapon?
