***THE OFFICIAL GTX480/470 END USER REVIEW THREAD***

Good old City Link :-)

Note in the UK you have to select US drivers to get the 197.41 or else the search (on nvidia this is with win7 64bit) returns no results. meh

Mine arrived at about 9:30am this morning. Sorry no unboxing pics.
I must apologise for my lack of time to provide much in the way of results! Have too much to do today!

My system:
QX9650 running at 3.666ghz
8gb OCZ
4x 750gb drives
GTX480, Zotac, from Overclockers.
850w Corsair TX PSU
Windows 7 64 bit
Oldish Antec P160 ugly case but nice inside, a little on the small side.

So.. after swapping my old Antec 650w out as a precaution :)
I installed the 480, same size as the 280, a little heavier and more solid feeling, I have about 20mm clearance.

I ran two furmark benchmarks, results:
This test was run a few secs after I ran the stab test:
SCORE:4934 points (60000 ms) - Options: DM FX
Max GPU Temp: 93°C
Resolution: 1280x1024 (W) - MSAA: 0X
FPS: min=62 max=114 avg=82

This test was after I wrote this post:
SCORE:4953 points (60000 ms) - Options: DM FX
Max GPU Temp: 86°C
Resolution: 1280x1024 (W) - MSAA: 0X
FPS: min=72 max=114 avg=83

I tried the furmark stab test, temps rocketed very quickly to 95 deg before the curve flattened. The temp then dropped to around 93 deg and stayed there.

Noise. Well tbh I can't hear the card at all when in Windows. I would say that it is slightly noisier than my 280 when running furmark. Basically I'm happy with the noise levels which was my biggest worry. A desk mounted shuttle which has a 5770 card in it is MUCH noisier.

Overall, from my limited time thus far. I'm very happy with the card, pleased I went with it over the 5870.

Oh, Atomic Sled is very nice.

EDIT1:

I should have mentioned that I have four systems in here and all are currently in use. The 480 system is on a carpet next to my foot, recessed back under the desk. The Shuttle is only noisy in games but is really annoying when it gets hot.

EDIT2:

Just Cause 2 bench:

Everthing set to max except 2x AA, 16xAF, VSync OFF, 1920x1200

The Dark Tower:
39.02 Average FPS
Desert Sunrise:
51.06 Average FPS
Concrete Jungle:
30.83 Average FPS

Due to my 280 giving up the fight the other day I can't provide old benchmarks but from memory with the same settings but SSAO set to low I got around 28FPS on The Dark Tower Benchmark.

Well, just had an email from the e-tailer i ordered from saying the Palit is out of stock. Not too happy about that as it said in stock yesterday when i ordered!

Has anyone else who ordered the Palit at £410 had an email like this?

Just to say, I havent ordered a 480/470 but I have had the same issue with the same etailer. I ordered some RAM that said in stock, got an email the next day telling me sorry they are out of stock. So I went back on their site to check and it still said in stock

Ok, same as other bloke.. Got my Palit one just before 10am.. Few snaps

CS 1.6
1920x1200
16x AF 4x AA
16bit colour in options.
1000fps!!!.. Jesus... I couldn't be happier.
I only use 800x600 no AA/AF so, this is purely for results.

Later i'll post results for "Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe" and "Robot Unicorn".

Dont bench with 2xAA whack it up. ;)

BTW is that really the scores for the 480 on Just cause 2? Looks really low? I havent played JC2 yet is it a demanding game?

Yes it's very demanding (when set to max). Awesome game though! My kids play it but despite quad cores and 9800GTX graphics on their systems they have to set most settings to medium or off (GPU water). Even then their average FPS is lower then the 480.

How do the consoles manage to play this game?!?!
