***THE OFFICIAL GTX480/470 END USER REVIEW THREAD***

Finally received my GTX480 today :)

I have already installed it and have updated the drivers:)

In all honestly the card is not loud at all in normal use, In preparation I had already installed two 120mm fans in the base of my case as I got to thinking the heatsink on this card has such a massive surface area that fans could cool it very well;)
On idle as I type the GPU is at 41c and its been installed for around an hour.
I have played Battlefield Bad company 2 with everything on high and the temp did rise to 69c

I find this very low:confused: actually cooler than my 260:confused:

I think my cheap fan solution is working well for me:)

The only thing I am not sure about is the temp system I am using to check is just OCCT, can anyone recommend a better free temp program I could try?

cheers
mrix

use msi afterburner with the on screen display for the temps

yeah it's kinda weird though with games and their temps, mines the same with battlefield i think the highest its ever got was 73c and thats with 3D enabled. where as other poorer looking games heat it up a lot more, i actually found a game yesterday that broke my 78c with 70% fan rule :( red faction guerilla in 3D of all games shot to 82c and stayed there, 4c more than crysis, metro 2033, just cause 2 etc etc

gonna bodge myself in a fan aswell i think, the Scythe Kama Stay PCI Cooling Frame looks quite good to me

em thats give me a ideal on extra cooling for my 470,good idea!

Finally got my second 480 from Overclockers this morning. PLugged it in, connected the SLi bridge and proceeded to get wavy blue lines across my screen. Managed to diagnose a faulty SLi bridge, thankfully my 3-way bridge works fine in dual card mode.

(Behold my amazing cabling!)

I have done a few benchmarks, and I'll try to do any requests if people want specifics. All benchmarks performed at stock on a [email protected]

My second (PoV) 480 has a newer BIOS than the other. This BIOS is not in the TPU database either (I have submitted a copy). This one is v70.00.21.00.02 my first card had v70.00.1A.00.02

got a little question, because of the dual screen idle temp issue i'm simply switching primary screens then disabling the secondary to overcome this, so i'm thinking can i hook up a mini hdmi to rca into the 3rd output and hook it up to my stereo and then output sound from the stereo as only 2 outputs will ever be in use? seems like i should be able to, just not got the cable

Just as a comparison here's my 5850 running at 1030/1100 with my £35 physx card (9800GTX+ at 800/2000).

Run at 1920 x 1200 no AA max detail and max physx

Compares quite well and I am quite impressed how well it holds up against the gtx480. I assume that even with a gtx480 you really need a seperate card for physx as I would have expected the gtx480 to whoop me?

GTX480 does whoop you ;) when I adjust settings like for like & still only using 1 card vs your 2 ;)

Here are some more results as I found if you lower certain max detail settings the image looks almost identical but the FPS is much better not that it matters as GTX480 is clearly a card for max image anyway but Nvidia appear to have some bugs in the drivers right now which is understandable so when they fix these I can see the results being better still ;)

got my zotac 480 and got to say very happy with it certainly quiter under load than my 4870x2 . just one question is is there any fan profile software for the zotac ? there included firestorm software does not have the ability use a sliding scale ?

I've had a couple of days to properly play with 470 SLI and so far i'm very impressed. The drivers and control panel are very nice imo, loads of options and very easy to use, (the SLI & Physx indicator's are very handy for testing), the whole thing just feels very polished. Metro 2033, MW2 and Mass Effect 2 have all run flawlessly.

As far as noise goes, at idle and during surfing etc there's no difference to the 5850 Crossfire it's replaced but during extended gaming sessions it's far louder with the fan set on auto, (something i've yet to play with), I won't pretend it isn't annoying, (fine if you've got headphones on though).

I've installed Afterburner and managed to get to 775 (from 608) on stock voltage, which passed Combuster and seven hours of Metro 2033 no problem. Temps are mid-high 80's during Combuster which is certainly very warm but well within tolerance.

I don't want to lose my soundcard in the top PCI_E slot so If I can work out a way to replace the thumbscrews on a Prolimatech MK-13 with something lower profile then i'll fit a couple of them and push the voltage some more.

Hi all, I was just wondering if it possible if you only have the one Graphics card, if you can use the middle slot of a board that has 3 PCI express slots ?

Cheers all

Confused? Your first results were at 1920 x 1200 no aa and max physx which was excactly the same as I ran at.

What have you changed for you 2nd results?
Disabled Ambient Occlusion & changed Texture Filtering to High Performance as both make little difference to image quality but the FPS takes a large hit due to obvious driver bugs. AO gives the biggest FPS hit not sure if ATI do an equivalent setting to that or not??
