***THE OFFICIAL GTX480/470 END USER REVIEW THREAD***

Has NVIDIA put a video decoding clock profile into the new 4-series cards?

When decoding video via DVXA or CUDA the clocks and voltage on my GTX 260 are at 3d clocks...quite annoying. ATI has a separate UVD profile which I used to set to 160MHz .7V on my 4890

Ordered a couple of Prolimatech MK-13s for my GTX 470 SLI setup, i'm stuck in hospital tomorrow so won't get them fitted until Thursday, will post back with some pics and results once i'm up and running (quite literally).

re:

Nice video, I'm surprised the card is so cool with stock fan speeds.
Just out of curiosity could you unplug your bottom 2 fans to see if it does raise the GPU temps significantly?

I have unplugged those fans and only saw an increase in temp of around 5c

I am beginning to wonder if I am getting enough voltage to the cards:confused:

How could I find out?

Cheers

Hi,

I received my Asus gtx 480 today :D
I did have a 5870. However i use 3d vision and my 260 wasnt hacking it anymore.
This card idles at about the same noise and temp as my 5870 did. However it does get a lot louder under load.
Using a custom fan profile with stock settings my highest temp was 91. At this point the fan is about 80%. I upped the core/shader to 801/1601. This resulted in highest temp of 93 with the fan kicking in as high as 82%. This is under stress testing environment. Most games i dont see temps this high, so fan noise isnt that high.
Comparing my gtx 260 fan to the 480, id say 70% on the 260 is roughly 60% fan on the 480.
This doesnt bother me much as i am going custom water cooling within the next few weeks. Also as i primarily use it to play 3d vision games, it turns out that the fan on my projector whilst in 3d mode is about as loud as the 480 under full load whilst overclocked.
Performance wise im very happy at the moment. I havent played any games in 3d using my lcd monitor @ 1680x1050, so at the moment i cant comment on the performance. But on the projector @ 1280x720 i am made up. All my games are smooth, even the latest ones such as bad company 2 and just cause. I can turn all settings to max, and even add 4x aa on these games that crippled my 260.
Im gonna spend tomorrow night benchmarking, 2d and 3d, i will be back with the results.

Phil.

the Zotacs are in stock now, but why ocuk is not aligning on the competition pricing? These cards can be found for 430 including delivery elsewhere... So, I was wondering why I should prefer ocUK? better RMA process?

coupe doesn't having the 260 in there along with the 480 cause the 480 to run at x8 2.0?

Yes, performance hit is minimal though, you wouldn't notice.

Will be getting another 480 soon hopefully, then I can flog the 260 while it's still worth something ;)

EDIT: You should know this anyway, what with you running P55 and 260GTX SLi :p

mines in as of last night , 1 warning if you use the ek block make sure you insulate the strenghening bracket as a few ppl have had problems there sending special gaskets out.

1x triple rad up top with 3 120mm fans on medium speed pulling cool air in, 1 x ek waterblock, 1x ek cpu block, 1/2" barbs, swiftech ddc pro pump with xspx top/res, 1 front 120mm fan pulling in (slow speed), 1x rear 120mm fan pulling out (mid speed) , psu is isolated so does not add to temps.

1h on furmark extreme burn mode= maxed out @ 69oc (room temp 24oc)

after furmark settles down to 48oc idle

i use msi utility to monitor temps as it has the best interface imo

3hrs solid in BF2 never went above 59oc room temp 28oc
