The Official Hearthstone : Heroes of Warcraft Thread

Its quite a fun game, won all the 5 or so first matches but lost my first real opponent. :(

Duno how to sort my deck cos duno what i need really like how many 1s or 3s. Still having to figure out the battle system as in if i had 3 attack and they had 2 health but 3 attack i die along with their minion which is weird i thought u just have to worry about their def value i.e as long as ur att was say 3 and their def was 2 ud win that fight without lost health but nope.

Also i duno what all the diff types of heroes are about or what cards work for em.

Lots of learning i fear lol. Ah well, still fun and im sure ill win a real game one day soon.

Do you reckon you can play this without spending a penny i.e proper f2p and not p2w i.e ppl buying deck packs for better cards than the normal way i.e random luck and playing a lot?

Also nope, no key yet for me which im kinda bummed about.

there's always an element of P2W in any game that offers something to people who are willing to spend money over those who don't ranging from speed to just pure brutal no point in playing unless you pay mechanics.

I'll never spend a penny on this game, so others who do will have an advantage over the cards i don't have but it's more about luck of the draw than what cards you buy i guess.

still fun, just less so if you start getting rolled everytime you play due to "p2W" but can't see it happening myself.

Unless you're spectacularly good you won't be able to go infinite without paying. However, you should be able to afford a couple of Arenas a week from dailies without paying a penny, and as Arena is an even playing field when it comes to deck building you won't run into Mr Suitcase.

From what have seen, you can only purchase booster packs and not any particular individual card. You buy the same booster packs with your earned in game gold as you do with real money. Its all random what you get in a booster pack. You will get generally 1 great card, and the rest average.

You can also convert existing cards you possess into dust, then use that dust to make new cards from the collection.

The only benefit of paying real money is to get more booster packs of random cards quicker. Nothing that you can't get just playing the game without spending money.

^^ Based on TB and a few other's videos of Hearthstone it does seem that it isn't too badly P2W... Or at least if you know how to play many of the all-round great cards aren't particularly difficult to aquire (the sort of thing you'll probably unlock just by playing)...

Has anybody seen TB's videos with his "Deck of Legends"? It's a deck containing something silly like 24/30 legendaries, which I think he created to partly try and prove that although it is very funny and gimmicky, having a ton of rare/legendary cards is by no means a guaranteed win and in many cases works out terribly badly

I've seen the video and it was pretty funny. 19 legendaries and he lost his first 2 games horribly then stomped the third game. Unless you get exceptionally lucky you can't run that sort of deck yeah.

However it is completely moot at disproving that there is no 'P2W' factor. You'd have to be an absolute moron (if you have any knowledge of the game what-so-ever) to think that stacking legendaries = win when most of them are end-game high mana cost cards.

You build your deck to work (or at least, what you hope works) based on the cards you have available. But some legendaries are very powerful on there own and when you come across people with them it can seriously mess you up. Friend has I think 2 legendaries so far and he's bought around 20 card packs? Lord Jarraxus is particularly entertaining and utterly devastating when you play him on sub5 hp against an opponent whose trying to finish you off only for you to return to 15hp and get a crazy powerful 6/6 summon every turn for 2 mana.

i love to watch Boogie2988 when he plays Hearthstone. Hes a long time MTG player and therefor has a ton of knowledge.

I particularly love his Murkla deck whcich he aptly names Bananas :)

Still hoping for my key from being a battle.net app beta tester :p

Yep, but if you do get lucky opening packs your deck will be much better than the non-paying folk which is fine, as it's really a game of luck in which your cards are drawn you could have the best deck ever but if you don't get the cards you need then GG lol

Ok so just got my third beta key for this game, sold my second one but as open beta is close now doubt its worth anything now.

First to email me via trust can have it :)

Edit: Key has gone.

One of the things I really like about Hearthstone from the videos I have watched, is the removal of the luck based land draw of MtG.

Great move not including it, being unable to play your deck due to mana flood or drought was frustrating.

Getting steady land draw just enabled you play your deck the way you actually wanted to in the 1st place, and didn't add much to the game from a strategic viewpoint imo.
