***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

We're talking about Cyanagenmod 7 which the Alpha was released today, it seems to work pretty much perfectly (the only bug I've run into being the touch screen wake one).

We are talking this one yes? Release, 28/08?

I guess that date is when the thread was first created, the alpha was actually only release this morning or last night.

Can't wait to get home and try this, hopping the xbmc remote app will work!

I'll have to see if it's been updated as I've had an android buggy POS on here for ages. Thing is, TP is away for the speaker crack being repaired so can't update till I get it back :(

We're talking about the public alpha which was released today:

http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?4011-Discussion-CyanogenMod-team-Touchpad-port

It won't even resemble anything you had from August, they have been working flat out over the last month (there have been progress videos in this thread as they got each component working) and any previous leaks were not official and as you say completely buggy. It's now at a stage than they deem suitable for release in the wild.

How did you install it in August by the way? There wasn't an installer until very recently and it would have required quite in depth knowledge and a long drawn out process to have got Android on your Touchpad back then. Certainly not something for the faint hearted.

Also can you load a h264 720p clip on it, without re-encoding and see how that plays? I don't know which app to use for that as on my SGS2 the native player plays it.

No good I'm afraid, lots of dropping frames etc. All of my 'makemkv' files I created from DVDs I have work fine though, but native HD seems to be a no go at the moment.

Cheers for trying. I may still give it a bash as the TP gets no use, which I am hoping will change once I have android on it.

How have you loaded moboplayer onto it? sideloading or android market?

How does web browsing seem on the device, compared to WebOS and also to whatever Android phone you have (SGS2 right?).

I can answer you Web browsing question; It seems a lot better by just browsing to this forum. No more sidescroll thank ****.

Let me know if you want any apps tested.

Gotta say, I'm loving CM7 on the TP, web browser is a million times better. So far, everything I've tried seems to work.

Did I say the browser was better? I better say the browser is a million times better again just to nail the point home.

Wish I could wipe off webOS and just have android, after going back to the ipad I was shocked at just how unpolished it is.

I forgot to mention, I had to hard wipe my TP to get CM7 to install otherwise it would lock up halfway though installing. If you encounter wait errors during the install you will most likely have to do the same.

Sorry yes that was using Moboplayer and MX Player, unwatchable in both.

Browsing seems perfectly fine compared to my SGS2 and Xperia Arc, I wouldnt say 100% silky smooth scrolling but no complaints and I wouldn't feel aggrieved if I had bought a tablet that performed like this. I feel the whole release is that polished that I'll probably even install it on my dad's Touchpad.

Thanks.

1)How did you get the apps onto the device? If via Market, how can I get my paid market apps on there (I know they won't all work as this is Alpha).
2) Can you see the WebOS files in file manager when booted into Android (just wondering as to whether to delete any WebOS apps I have to maximise the space Android can see). I could also create communal file areas if both OS see the same folders/filesystem
3) Does the notification bar (at the bottom) disappear when rowsing and watching files?

Will think of more questions in a bit...

Have you got Market on it or sideloading?

Also, has anyone tried any launchers (i.e. GoLauncher).

Market is working fine. Trying another right after I've tested the dual-boot.

Did you have to install some sort of "GoogleApps" package to get that? I seem tio recall reading that CyanogenMod does not have Market in the package, by default.

Yes, gapps. You just have to reboot to CWM and install custom .zip. Reboot and then follow the instructions.

Reboot to WebOS worked fine.

LauncherPro/Go installed without any issues.

Cheers. I really wish I had bought my TP to work today so I could install this rather than ask inane questions :)

Edit: Is there a dummies guide to installing CM7, gapps and CWM anywhere? Having never installed a ROM on android and only having access to a Mac or a VMware install of XP, I suspect this is going to take me more than the 5 mins it has taken others!

This just needs better flash performance and I would probably never load webOS again.

In fact I probably wont anyway as I've just discovered the gingerbread version of Splashtop Remote is noticeably faster and more responsive than the webOS version. Actions are pretty much instant with the exception of typing, which has a few issues (and it's a shame the HD version requires honeycomb). Scrolling especially is far faster. I'll watch my 720p content this way for now.
