***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

touchstones are £45 minimum now, and at that price, i think i can live without it tbh. had they been £25 now that would maybe be worth it, but at the £50 mark, there is no way any charger is worth that.

The touchstone works through the official case so the jelly ones should be fine :)

im interested in knowing the technology behind this charging?

surely its inefficient at charging as energy would be wasted? due to the type of contact being used. i've never seen anything like it before, certainly a cool gadget if your willing to flash the cash for it.

you could take it off when using it on the touchstone? or it may work but i doubt it.

personally i don't see the point in the touchstone, its extremely expensive for a fancy charger. i could just use a normal USB cable and one of those grippy things instead. it does look good though, but i dont think i can justify the price for its looks alone. it costs half as much as a touchpad does.

I have one and don't regret it. Basically it looks nice! makes it a much more practical proposition as a digital photo frame as well.

10% voucher does not work, also why are these selling on ebay for £40-£50 with days remaining?
because idiots will buy them.

it's nothing new, just check out any electric toothbrush. same thing.

I never saw a need for a tablet prior but the super attractive steal of a price made me get one. I use it every day at work and it's real useful for quick reference when away from the main PC. Faster than booting a laptop. Will be worth it's weight in gold when I travel also.

Glad I went through the nightmare of getting one
Glad I got a 32GB model in the end

Worst case, as said, it's a digital photo frame for a great price if only used for that!

cheers, as i thought it is an inefficient method of charging, but still not too bad if its made properly. im guessing that having a case over the touchpad, would made it even more inefficient, so i would not recommend doing so, unless of course you dont care about such things.

Hmmm, been doing that for over a month! Mine is always fully charged and displaying the clock :)

Though, it's so much more convenient than having to find a cable or to keep plugging it into a charger.

im not saying that it wont fully charge, im saying that it will take longer to charge or use more electricity to charge than using a cable or more likely both.

had they used a dock type system like apple (which im assuming is as efficient as charging by USB) it would have been a lot more efficient.

for example:

charging using a wire takes 2 hours from 0 to 100% and costs 50p
charging whilst using a touchstone takes 2.5 hours from 0-100% and costs 75p
charging whillst wearing a case and using a touchstone takes 3 hours from 0-100% and costs £1

those are made up numbers but that's the point im getting at. ive no idea how efficient it is. but it's definitely more inefficient than using a wire.

Yeah, all valid points. I wasn't disagreeing with you, just seemed that way! :)

It would be interesting to see how inefficient at charging the Touchpad is, with the official case and the Touchstone.

touchstone takes about 30% longer to charge from my estimates. from around 3 hours to 4 hours give or take, and considering it's only using ~10-15 watts when its charging, i just really couldnt care less how inefficient it is versus a wire. It's neater and smarter.
