***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

just bought one of these off of the members market. can you guys let me know what is the cheapest half decent case to buy? do i need a screen protector? anything else i need to look at?

also is there any point in keeping WebOS on it or should i switch to android?

will be using for watching movies, logging gym data, taking notes, playing poker, etc.

i dont own a laptop. so this will be my laptop so to speak.

installing cm7 also installs a boot menu. Not sure if you can get rid of webos but even if you could it would be a big mistake getting rid of it for an alpha build of cm7.

Dont know about cases though i'd recommend the official one if you can find one cheap. get a screne protector if it makes you feel better.

right now i'd just get WebOS 3.0.4 on there, then read this guide when it's updated for 3.0.4 http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touchpad/293028-new-touchpad-heres-your-get-started-guide.html

the official case is over £30 and you can get neoprene ones for like £8, is it worth the premium for the official case, in most cases the answer is no.

anyway so im thinking a neoprene case for when its not in use, and a screen protector (£2) are essential really, anything else?

think im going to stick with WebOS until CM7 is stable, no point in messing about with an alpha release, i can be patient.

going to go for

"X" DESIGN TPU GEL CASE FOR HP TOUCHPAD - SOLID BLACK

and

Neoprene Soft Sleeve Bag Case Cover For 9.7" Apple Ipad 2 / HP Touchpad Tablet

(the joker version)

from ebay, so it has a cover (like a sock with a zip) and a case (silicone type covers back), and a anti glare screen protector (covers front) total cost of all 3 is £13.94 which is less than half the price of the official case.

i did say if you can find a cheap one:o mine was £18 or so. its tough, smart, protective and doubles as a stand.its better than any neoprene case and if you can find a cheap one then get it.

Debatable, I dont believe a screen protector is is essential at all. both my sgs2 and my tp are in full cases that protect the screen when not in use, and both screens are made of gorilla glass - very hard to scratch and not something I'm worried about.

You've already made your mind up and you're still asking about cases why? You're welcome by the way!

well i wanted to buy everything quickly so it was sent out today along with my touchpad. no point in my touchpad arriving first then the case weeks later. so if i did not get many replies quickly i would need to just make a decision and order.

i thought there may of been a case everyone was recommending, you know like my ipod touch everyone recommends the switch easy rebel touch. i also edited the post 40 minutes after, since nobody was replying and i had been searching on ebay, i looked at how many people had bought the cases i was looking at and thought, there must not be a "go to" case. so in my edit i posted what i had been looking at and eventually ordered.

anyway the issue has been solved. i have a little niece who is a bit over 2 years old, she likes to doodle and play games, etc, so i would rather the screen be properly protected just in case.

now i just need to wait for that post to be updated. dont think its worth it jumping on the android bandwagon as of yet. still a lot of bugs to sift through. lots of people having problems, i have been looking at other problems.

is WebOS as bad as people had been making out? or is it actually pretty good and people were over reacting as usual?

oh the neoprene case i ordered with a picture of the joker on it holding a batman card i think it is, is coming from hong kong, and may take up to a month to get here, so i ordered the gel case and screen protector for just now, when it arrives, i could easily remove the screen protector, was less than £2 anyway.

looking forward to getting it up and running.

I use a Neoprene case + Breffo SpiderPoidum Tablet

Nice flexible combo that will not break the bank.

thanks for the info, i dont think i will need a stand for it, even though that one looks amazing, i seen the smaller version on the apprentice and thought it was pretty cool. i will be using the tablet in my hands most likely, i may however get one in the future should i feel the need to stand it up, maybe when im using it in the gym (i have a home gym and use android/ios apps to track progress).
