***The Official HP TouchPad Thread***

Any news on Android appearing yet? I am sure I read (when the WebOS "cull" started) that a HP engineer was quoted as saying it would get Android within 2 weeks. I am still unsure whether they meant they had a team working on it, or whether they overestimated the faith in the dev/mod etc community. The lack of decent TouchPad optimised WebOS apps is starting to annoy me. Getting all of SGS2 apps on here would give it a new lease of life!

I am sure there are legal/license reasons why not, but it would be quicker if Google just did the build and a flashing tool themselves. I am sure HP no longer care and Google would get 500k-1mill Android activations overnight (not to mention that this would probably be the biggest "sold" amount of any Android tablet to date!)

last I heard was an Android port is out and can be installed, 2.3.2 however the wifi still doesnt work and also its a dual boot - so you need to press a combination of buttons to boot in Android

read all about it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224540

I would wait a while until a stable release is done.

I am so bored of the WebOS I may just try the unstable port for now :) Any idea what page of 82 on that thread the link is on, for the download and instructions?

Also, is the current/future Android port going to have Marketplace access (without that it would be useless to me tbh)?

Edit: Actually, re-reading your post, without WiFi I won't be able to do much anyway, will have to wait it out!

am i right in thinking that although companies can get android for free as it's open source, they can't get market/gmail/other google apps for free. these companies have to pay for? if so how do people get around that with this port to touchpad? perhaps google wont mind as after all the touchpad users are likely to pay for android apps, however bit of a kick in the teeth if google charge samsung for chosing android, but then give it freely to others that dont

well there was android on the tp pretty quickly, it was just a android u cant do anything with...

I have same issue with pdf's

wonder if you can convert pdf's to cbr cbz hmmm

meg all i need is webos, just add the android market place

I have to admit, I am liking webOS. The multi-tasking is sublime. Android needs this in a tablet build. Not having it on a phone I can live with, but on a device aimed at heavy use the way webOS handles multi-tasking is just unbeatable in the mobile OS segment right now.

http://www.anime-planet.com/forum/faq-tutorials/1379-how-convert-pdf-cbz.html heres what i found

Step 1: Go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdftohtml and download pdf2html
Step 2: Extract the downloaded File in a folder where you wish to (you get a folder with a name like 'pdftohtml-0.36')
Step 3: Copy your pdf into that directory
Step 4: Now move your pdf above pdftohtml.exe
Step 5: You get now the pictures which are in your pdf file
Step 6: put these pictures in a new folder (give it a reasonable name)
Step 7: open that Folder and get rid of these html files
Step 8: create now a zip file (don't forget to remove Thumbs.db files)
Step 9: rename the file extension (zip) to cbz

you can drag and drop the pdf file from anywhere, but it dumps the jpg's from where the file came from

copy the cbr or cbz to comics folder (not .comics) and you probably need to restart the tp, then load comicshelf hd to view it :)

on the one i tried I could get good text definition, not mucky low res like adobe reader, but the pages where out of order, dont know why :/
gonna try another one now

Wifi is working unless going into sleep mode last I heard..... Still would wait a little while for it, even after initial release of the stable version just to see reactions....

from Wiki

The Android Market application is not open source. Only Android devices that comply with Google's compatibility requirements may install and access Google's closed-source Android Market app, subject to entering into a licensing agreement with Google

Select Carphone warehouses have had deliveries this morning.

official charger must have shorted pins or something as i've tried a universal 2A chargers and it still throws up the message.

I'm pretty sure any micro usb charger will work - but how fast it charges may vary.
