OK, think I've found out what the issue is. I turned wifi/3G back on permanently and my battery has now dropped only 2% in 30 minutes. I guess there is something that is permanently trying to access the network and is sucking up battery when it can't connect.

Not sure what it can be though as I don't have anything setup to automatically update and my mail is set to push.

My phone been on 14hr 35 now and got 30% left been using 3g and gps quite a lot too
 
Hi guys, guessing this is the correct place to post;

I have an HD2 and am using an andoid build based on the desire. It's the first time I have used android so have a few questions if thats ok?

For emails, is there anyway to mark all as read? I can't seem to find any options. Im using gmail on the tab to the left.

When syncing contacts from facebook is there anyway to selectively do this or manually link existing contacts to a FB account like in WM 6.5?

Where can I choose to import contacts from SIM?

If you're using the default Android 2.1 Gmail app, I can't see it either, the only way I do that is by selecting them manually and then going to menu :/

You have to manually do this I think, from "People" and then the Link tab.

Go to your contacts (People) and then press menu, then import.

Cheers mate that helps yeah, didnt realise the hw buttons bought up menus.

Can't find the link option in people but maybe it only works when saved to the phone same as wm.

If you need a good list of apps, then check some peoples sigs for links to appbrain or the Android apps thread below (web interface to install apps/sync/update etc) for example, here are mine.
 
i like the phone, but one thing I HATE about it, is the battery life, i charge it daily or every 2 days

can you buy a better battery for the Desire?

i think its like for like really with any of these high end smart phones, my friends charge there new iphone4 on a daily basis, and so does the chap with a galaxy s. i think the key is to surround yourself with juice.. like me :)

dock for work - £9.99 ebay
spare battery - £6 ebay (last almost the same as the stock)
two usb cables - £2 ebay
car charger - £2 ebay (using sat nav kills a fully charged phone REAL quick)
spare charger (from a blackberry, that i keep in my laptop bag)
spare charger (from blackberry at my misses house)

I'd like to get opendesire on my rooted phone using modaco at the moment.
I guess I must do it before putting opendesire on my phone or after?

Also AdamG says that "YOU MUST USE THE 5.X RADIO" but on the radio thread there is a LEAKER version 5.08 and a LATEST version 5.09 shall I go with 5.09 or 08?

Just a quick question, but is it normal for the desire or any other android phone to open applications in the background repeatedly? Mine seems to be doing it all the time, I thought it was because of the widgets but noticed that it opens things like appbrain, the fm radio, and as many as up to another 10 or so applications that I haven't used without them. Using a the stock rom. Maybe this is part of the reason my battery life seems to be worse than others.

5.08 didn't work for me on AdamG Sense Rom so i'd go for 5.09 mate
 
Guess this is the right place, can anyone recommend an earphone solution for the desire? the supplied ones are terrible but i dont want to lose the button functionality, anyone with any recommendations?
 
Anyone have any idea why Handcent won't vibrate when I receive a message any more. It's turned on in notifications but just doesn't vibrate.

Just updated to new version and it still won't vibrate.

Stock 2.1 and rooted if that helps.

Edit: looks like it's an ongoing problem that the dev doesn't seem to be arsed to fix lots of people complaining about it in past couple of months on the handcent forum. Also the LED notification seems broken on Desire in latest update. Sticks on blue after reading message popups and only way to clear is to turn of phone and back on again. Back to SMS Popup till this stuff it fixed I think.

Is there ever going to be "the perferct ROM"? I just can't see it.

I'm on DeFrost 2.3 now and my battery is still going down like 5% an hour. Now, this is completely fresh and I have nothing syncing.

So please, someone tell me why that's happening?
 
Weird, what kernel you on? fresh wipe done before flashing 2.3?

I'm using the stock 925mV HAVS kernel and have no battery issues, watched this week's episode of Lie To Me over lunch and completed the rest of the break with youtube FAIL videos all while connected to WiFi and at the moment have 52% battery left. The Display and Rock player were at the bottom of the battery meter too which was surprising, top were Cell Standby and Android System.
