*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Cheers for that, I'll check out those settings. I'm only off to Rome but I've been hit by roaming charges before and am wary of doing so again!

How do you switch the phone to GSM only?

menu/settings/wireless and networks/mobile networks/network mode

set it to gsm only (probably set to gsm/wcdma auto) at the moment

There is no need to switch AGPS off as this does not involve sending packet data and I used GPS extensively (CoPilot) on my trip without getting any data charges at all.

I was referring to the positioning method on my Nokia N95 where 'assisted GPS' is an option along with 'network based' and integrated GPS'. Are they all safe to leave on then?

rooted desire, debranded o2, defrost 3.0 rom.

1. Why does my snowstorm not work as a desktop widget, when I restart my phone I lose all my settings.
It's driving me crazy.

2. Can i easily wipe this rom and re-install, maybe the install is corrupt ?.

3. I'm now getting gmail error, have to force close.

4. Can anyone offer best method to wipe clean and fresh install to correct above problems.

5. When i use launcher pro, my phone automatically boots up using SENSE, can i disable SENSE ?

Any help guys ?
Al

I can't speak for all phones, but my desire would get a very quick lock in the usa and canada with mobile data turned off and still using satellites and cell tower options enabled in the GPS settings without using any data at all

Use an SDCard formatter to format the card. (I think, Partition sdcard from the recovery menu does a full format)

Install Unrevoked or use your preferred recovery method and use all the 'wipe' options.

Partition and create EXT2/3/4 if you want.

Power off, Transfer OD zip and patch and any mods you will eventually install (Battery Percentage/Keyboard/3D Gallery)

Power up with SDCard and flash.

That is my ritual when i flash a new ROM (Unless it's an incremental patch)

Never had any issues since i've started doing it that way, Use titanium backup for any app data you want to restore, If it's compatible.

You need to set Launcher Pro as the default launcher, Someone will post how to, I just tick 'Remember' and select Launcher Pro the first time it prompts me and i never see sense again :)

Does anyone do this while changing ROM;

1. Copy over new file
2. Boot up recovery
3. Nandroid Backup.
4. Full wipe
5. Flash ROM
6. Nandroid advanced restore and (I think) apps/user data *something along those lines*

Job done, all your apps are back from before with contacts and messages.

Is this the right way because its been working for me.

No it's not the most ideal way because newer roms do have newer app versions where the data files vary like in Gmail for example, older data restores do cause force closes and you have to wipe the data to fix it anyway.

The bets way is to Titanium backup everything then selectively restore only user apps/data. It's more time consuming but ensures absolute stability,

Okay Khaaan! thanks for that, just making sure :)

My way is easier though :p

Right, due to various reasons I'm porting to Orange early. There is so much to read through thought I'd just ask for a condensed guide to rooting my phone to something funky, using LPP as I've been convinced ;).

Ive just installed setcpu something ive never tried before now, its saying something along the lines it has no root access and is in read only mode?

Any ideas?

Your phone isn't correctly rooted by the sounds of it! Either that or you've clicked on no to reject the root access prompt on first run.

Manage Applications > SetCPU > Clear data.

Also from App launcher, find Superuser and make sure SetCPU is set to allowed from there too.

Cheers, that did the trick :) now what the hell do i do with it :p

Ive chosen autodetect, showing 998max and 245min

I just set the min/max in the main screen and have a profile set up on the 2nd tab for screen off, priority 100 and scaling set to performance.

This means every time the screen is off teh cpu will stick to 245MHz and thus saving a lot of battery power.

Ok so to root my phone I'm going to have to downgrade the bootloader. There isn't a RUU listed for orange, can I use a generic one? Hmm having said that, on modaco I can't even find a radio that has 0.80 <bootloader anyway.

Ah, can't downgrade as it has an SLCD. Does this mean I can't root? If so might just send it back.

Excellent, thanks for that will see how it helps with battery life
