*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Not really. You can downgrade to 2.1 quite easily using this and then use unrevoked to root it in 1 click ;)

Check the links for more info to see if your Desire is compatible. If yours isn't a newer SLCD or locked one, then it will be fine (Not sure about the SLCD ones, just read that they're awkward). I've rooted 3 of my friends Desires using the same method and no problems, and it doesn't take long at all!
Version 3.2 of unrevoked does away with the need to downgrade. The developers claim it will work with and any hboot/os version/screen type.

It has however been temporarily withdrawn due to some reported problems. There is also a comment in the thread saying it could have trouble with hboot 0.93

SLCD is not a problem with the downgrade/root method so long as the correct rom is chosen while rooting. It's all on XDA developers though I'm not sure of the most current threads as they change so often.

Im using AuraxSense 7.6.1 thought it was good 720p also but it keeps stuttering every few seconds, im thinking it could be my class 2 card, what class is your microsd?

Class 6 but I had stuttering sometime son that too.

Class numbers have no bearing on these things for branded cards. My Class 2 Sandisk mobile Ultra performs just as well as my LG Class 6 for example. Both are 8GB.

Im really happy with my defrost rom atm. Do i need a new radio? if so whats the best? I noticed my phone still has the pink tmobile circle on boot.

You can change the boot animation via DeFrost Setup app in the ROM.

New radio should be used yes as it fixes camera issues and suchlike.

My battery currently gets eaten away by the Maps LocationFriendsService that constantly runs in the background. If I force it to stop, it just reloads again after a few minutes.

Anyone know how I go about stopping this? Just running 2.1. Still no Orange update :p

Using same rom with a class 6 card and it still stutters

Class 6 but I had stuttering sometime son that too.

Cheers guy's, might try something else but I need sense :)

forgot to mention I am using the latest radio too

Oh the other logo, no idea about that, my handset is a vanilla HTC one.

Radios are posted in the very same XDA thread you downloaded DeFrost from :p

new firmware downloading now.... it appears i am one of the few who do not root

I didn't root my Desire either.
Mainly because if I'm spending that kind of money on a handset I like to have a warranty.
Root a branded phone and goodbye warranty time.

I'm on Vodafone so had to wait, what, a month after the official Froyo update, so really cannot complain there.
Feel sorry for O2 customers - at last got the Froyo update and it started bricking handsets so they had to pull it.

whats the latest on o2, my brother is with them and is still on 2.1, i cant convince him to root

They had an update and it got pulled on Monday. I gave up waiting for them and debranded mine. Did a painless update to 2.2 and got another OTA update today. By the time O2 sort something out it will be October or later.

Did a proper full wipe and used apn backup and restore instead of titanium backup. This fixed some of the force close errors I kept getting on boot. Loving Defrost 3.8 :)

My phone has also stopped resetting itself randomly. I haven't had a chance to test out whether it still reboots when using my in car charger even more so when using sat nav.
