*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

hi all, been a while since I updated my ROM, do I need to do anything different from Sense 1 roms to flash to a new version of Sense? or is it still just a case of downloading the ROM, putting it on the SD card and booting into recovery, picking it and flashing it?

Make sure you full wipe cache & dalvik prior to flashing a new rom.
Assume you'll cover the necessary backups first.

Check for any radio compatibility as well just in case.

cheers, I do normally do a full wipe and dalvik wipe but just wondered whether any 2+ Sense roms require any weird and wonderful formatting of the card?

You raise a fair point, some like InsertCoin can require a custom HBOOT & 1GB ext3/ext4 partition. Though usually that info is specified on the forum threads, at least on XDA.

cheers, I'm so long out of the game, I don't even know if my formatting is correct you see. Can't even remember what it is now actually, on an leedroid 3.0.7. How can I check what my partitions are please?

Since updating my Desire with the official HTC Gingerbread update, the only language option I have is English (United States).
This had lead to the dictionary being US and the sat nav now has an annoying yank accent which refers to roundabouts as traffic circles.

Any ideas as to how I can sort it and have it back to English (British)?

what are peoples opinions on the best sense 3 Rom please?

I'm coming from LeeDroid 3.0.7 with A2SD, and I would like to install a more modern rom perhaps with Sense 3.0.

I read the requirements for the latest InsertCoin with Sense 3.0

Requirements:
A2SD CM7 HBOOT - cm7 hboot from alpharev.nl - the one with 130 mB for /system
- 1 gB ext2/3/4 partition
A2SD+ STOCK HBOOT - stock hboot - the one with 250 mB for /system
- 1 gB ext2/3/4 partition

and I don't really understand them. Can anyone help me out? Does it mean I can have a Stock HBOOT (which mine is) but I have to have 250MB /system partition and a 1GB /ext3 partition?

At present according to system info app I have : 457MB A2SD storage, 148MB Internal storage, 250MB System storage, 40MB system cache, 405MB memory. Does this mean I need to increase the ext3 partition from 512MB to 1GB, and if so is that done by clockworkmod?

thanks, sorry for the long post.

thread is slowly becoming very quiet, most of the regular posters have upgraded phones to newer models.

As far as roms goes depends on what you like, sense, asop or miui?

HBOOT etc is partitioning the phone system
If you've never changed the HBOOT (http://alpharev.nl/) then I'd assume you're on stock which has 250mb system.

Separate to this is the SD card formatting (EXT3/4 etc)
I think some third party apps can re-partition, however my preferred way would be to plug the phone into my PC via USB and re-partition the SD card using software such as Gparted

thank you very much. This update will be a big update for me then as it'd involve a complete wipe of the SD card, then increasing the partition size of the EXT3 from 512MB to 1GB.

Is it pretty standard that Sense >1 needs a 1GB EXT3 partition?

Really could do with some help as i have been out of the game for a while now!

I have a normal HTC desire which is rooted and on the orange network, NOT unlocked.

I heard storied of the radio breaking and phones getting locked when upgrading to froyo e.t.c and some roms so i just kept android 2.1 on it.

I have recently bought a tablet and i really want to use the Desire as a wifi hotspot so i can use my 3g connection on the tablet when i am out and about.

the only problem is that the wifi tether apps only seem to be able to make an ad hoc netwrok which my Touchpad cannot see.

Is there any way to make the HTC Desire make an infrastructure network on 2.1 or will i have to flash a new rom?

If i do, what ROM would you guys recommend, what instructions should i follow ( ive forgotten how to do it) and will it bork my radio/lock my phone?

Cheers!

JT

2.2 Froyo is required for Wireless tethering.

I'd go straight to an Android 2.3.4 release.

LeeDroid is very good. Check out his XDA developers thread for instructions on how to flash.

Indeed, go straight to Leedroid if you want Sense, or go to GingerVillain if you want Aosp (uses stock partition layout so you don't need to mess around with s-off)

Getting a Galaxy S 2 soon so I'll be leaving :(

Ok thank you.

Don't suppose you know whether it will bork the radio or lock the phone do you?

I suppose i should just pay to get it unlocked anyway to be honest :p

I'm on Orange and my Desire originally came with 2.1

I just followed this page and had no problems with the Radio or becoming locked out from Orange

It's a lot easier than it first looks I found :)

brother has just got a desire from a mate , its locked to t mobile and on stock 2.2
