4.1MP? :(

HTC One photo's looked horrible on my monitor when in fullscreen or zoomed in, colour was also way off most of the time as-well. It was a below average camera and now they're returning with something similar.

With Samsung dropping the ball slightly with the Galaxy S5, HTC had a chance to shine here but instead we get a 4.1MP camera.

Yes, lets see how that compares to the Galaxy S5's 16MP camera with isocell.

HTC = Fail.

8MP would have been the sweet spot - but official specs haven't been announced just yet. For general and even great pics without much cropping, 4MP is enough.

If you think about it 4MP does actually make some sense, I have a Note 3 all of the pictures i take are uploaded to the PC & never printed they just snapshots, I don't even bother to look at them in full screen neither but i still enjoy looking at them as they are my memories so to speak.

Most people that use their smartphone also probably do this aswell & most of the pictures will probably never leave their phones until the time comes to upgrade or whatever.

So while having a 13mp, 16mp & 20mp camera's on your phone is all well & good, most people will never use those megapixels to there full potential to view their photo's as they won't crop or edited them & detail to them will look fine.

If you do like to edit & crop pictures and mass amount of pixels, then why are you using a phone and not a proper camera, because even the best of the smartphone snappers are no match for a decent camera such as a M4/3 or DSLR or even a half decent P&S because the sensor is still way to small with the Nokia 1080 being the exception.

So to me if i was to buy the new HTC, the 4mp camera would actually be more than enough for my snapshots.

Getting a delivery of these sometime today. We have it priced as £549.95 SIM free but I'm not sure if we can sell it yet without a contract as usually on launch day, our systems aren't setup with a SIM free price so we can't process the sale. I doubt it will sell out today though.

My iPhone has just died on me and I need a new phone before I go to London on Saturday. Should I wait for this new HTC, or buy the One at £30/month 4G contract (EE 36 months, Unlimited calls, texts. 2GB data)?

I'm glad you added that last line because I will never go below 8mpx :) simply ptu I crop 90% of my pics and IMO I should have some space to play around with.

the problem with ONE(m7) was that even without cropping the pictures looked crap and if it's the same case then with one(m8) then what's the point eh?

also IT IS MASSIVE

Have one in my hand right now. Lovely screen. The metal back is nice but not practical for me since it's pretty slippery and it doesn't help when you have soft hands!

HTC M8 4.1MP "Ultrapixel" + 2MP Camera

VS

Galaxy S5 16MP Camera with "ISOCELL"

I think HTC have lost the camera battle again, I get the impression they've just given up and focused everything on the brushed aluminium.

It wasn't just resolution that made the M7's camera crappy :p The M8 should be much sharper/crisper for all your cropping needs, assuming HTC can execute properly this time round. :D

Yeah, hopefully they'll make a phone version of this phablet.
