*** The official HTC One S thread ***

i've decided on the one S. unless there's anything better just round the corner that i've overlooked :p jellybean is due anytime now for the S?

Personally I wouldn't be getting any of the current android phones now as there are a lot of new devices coming out that look excellent i.e. the phones by Motorola, LG, SE and then will have the XL coming over here soon as well as the new nexus device(s).

But if you want an android phone now then it is essentially the X, S and GS 3.

No confirmation on jellybean for the one S/X, but some release schedule graph was leaked and it showed that those 2 phone would be getting it before the end of the year.

Awesome.

Updated phone. Phone did not physically move during the entire downloading process, where it had 0-1 bars of signal.

Post update it no has no signal.

Stupid One S.

Oooh now i have 1-2 bars of signal.

Excitement!

Oh dear.

Looks like HTC still haven't truly fixed the signal issue yet then :o

Weird because nearly everyone has commented on the signal being much better.

I havent properly tested it yet (just been sat at work), but I work in an area which is known to have borderline signal for the 3 network (and the office is a big metal box with a metal roof. Most people struggle for signal in it. So 1-2 bars is probably pretty good!

Ah that will explain that then! :p

People have also mentioned improvements in the ping for mobile data connection.

I am going to do some tests and take some screenshots before I update and after the update when/if :p I get the update (of course assuming it does get any better or possibly worse....... :p)

I went on HTC live support chat like 3 days ago asking about the update and as usual got the copy and paste reply, please check here etc. about updates etc. then wrote back saying about the X devices in Europe and UK difference for waiting (2 weeks) etc. etc. guy then said I can assure you that the update has been rolled out in the UK as in my workplace, I and others have manually updated to 4.0.4, I then said, it is a bit weird that no one in the UK has posted about getting the update across a number of forums where as with the X when it got the update in the UK, loads of people got the update across many forums etc. He started listing excuses and one of them was that only 30,000 or 3,000 (can't remember which :p, probably the former) updates can be done each day in order to avoid servers crashing.

After about 30 minutes he said he would forward my query and the conversation onward to the proper department that deals with the update roll out to check that every thing is working ok.

Also asked about JB, and got the same copy and paste reply, "thank you for your interest in the new android version known as JB, please look here for more information on updates" :p :o

Supposedly the next software update will be released on the 08/10/12

PS. you can use google translate to take a photo of the text and translate it to english.

Is that you, having pressed the 'Check Now' button for the nine thousandth time and being told your phone is 'update to date'? ;) :p

Lol, not quite as bad yet........ but if I don't have the update tomorrow morning, I fear that I will become far worse! :(

:p

If the update doesn't come to my phone by the end of the week, you could probably make a good video of my reaction using the "downfall" Hitler video :D

Hi

I will be joining the One S club soon (sort of). I upgraded to an One S for £26/m for 18 months. Have 800 mins, lots of text and 1gb data.

The phone will go to my mum to replace her ageing desire HD (I will ninja her upgrade in 4 months as my gs2 is doing me fine)

Are their any tweaks I should do before passing phone on? (I have seen to turn off better WiFi) I wont be rooting or ROMing for mother as their is no need.

As above, nothing really needs to be done. You have already done the main thing.

Also should change to "GSM only" mode when a fast mobile data connection isn't needed as:

- saves battery life
- better/more consistent voice reception/signal

And when a fast connection is needed i.e. 3G/H, switch to WCDMA only mode.
