*** The official HTC One S thread ***

It does have an option of GSM or WCDMA only.

Are you on three? If you are, that is why then.

I don't think there is an app that can do it for you, all the power toggles just bring you to the sub menu.

There is a way that I did it on my spica, but you have to dial a number in the dialer then go through sub-menus in order to change it.

God that is bad! That is exactly why I will never consider a SE android device :p

Hold on... We waited TWO months to get 4.0.4 AFTER it was released, that means we'll get JB in February! (I had official 4.0.4 on my Arc many months before the One S btw)
My overall support experience with SE was better than HTC, although it looks like Sony has abandoned that policy now :(

4.0.4 is causing the non detection of any carrier signal on my One S. I have to do a restart to empty any in memory settings and then after that everything is ok. I can even switch it off and then back on without incident as long as it's not switched off for any long periods.

Edit: I'm not the only one having these problems. looking at the vodafone forums there are people there sending their phones back. I'm stuffed because I bought mine second hand: so who the heck can I send mine back too? Actually bought mine from CEX but I can't imagine them replacing it due to an over the air firmware upgrade.Hope there will be a fix for this.

I've sold my One S to a friend and I want to put it back to stock/relock the boot loader etc as it's currently got CM10 on it, I've found the bit on XDA where they link up all the firmwares and the guide for locking it all back up but I have absolutely no idea which one to pick.

Can anyone help me? There's a mountain of RUU files that I can't make sense of.

Its an S4 unbranded unlocked handset so I think I'm just looking for a stock international version.

Any help much appreciated!

EDIT: Well I just went with the newest european one I could fine and it seems to have done the trick :)

For anyone who has the S3 version, people are receiving the 4.0.4/sense 4.1 update today.

Also some are reporting that they have got jellybean (they say they aren't getting it mixed up with sense 4.1....), find it very hard to believe though, I think they are just stupid :p or trolling.

Also regarding some guys experience with HTC and the chipping issue:

Had my HTC one s repaired free of charge (UK), done it surprisingly quick but they left a scratch on the screen! sending it back once again

... the usb port and top part of the phone are new, no longer as sharp as before

I love this phone but the signal issues on voda/talkmobile have gotten far worse for me since moving home. It just cant make its mind up if its on E/3g/H/No Signal, it constantly switches. To the point i have to run it in 2g so it doesnt rinse my battery.

The sim is fine in other phones, trying my best to hold out for an update but feel I could be waiting some time :S

re-quoated as an update to the problem. I initially forgot to mention that whilst the above problem arose I would always get the " stuck on "turning off airplane mode " error. It seems that going in to settings, and then power and then turning fastboot off, fixes the airplane mode problem. I have yet to see if this does anything about the lack of signal issue but will report back later on this in the event that anybody else might be having the same issues.

Yeah turning fastboot off enables the phone to aquire a signal without a soft reboot.

Yeah, should always disable fast boot, from reading around it seems to cause more problems with apps not working etc. Doesn't really seem worth it for a "fast" boot especially when the phone is extremely stable and doesn't need to be restarted at all really :p

Me too, 4.0.4 has made it worse. It'll happily sit on 'no signal' without switching to a strong tower forever, totally depressing using it in 2G all the time :( Shame there isn't a viable alternative right now, like a Nexus Razor M or Xperia V.

Hmm, some people have been reporting that they have got jellybean on their S (iirc one guy said he is on Wind network in Canada), calling BS though, he posted a screenshot and said he will post a video/photo when he has time.....

Here is some proper news, which is definitely correct :p

http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_x_gets_android_412_in_asia_today_one_s_to_follow_soon-news-5002.php

The General manager of HTC North Asia, Jack Tong announced at a press event that the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update will start rolling out for the One X today. He also said that the One S will also be graced with the firmware update, but didn't specify a time frame.

At least we will be getting 4.1.2 :)

EDIT:

Some guy has taken the X battery and put it in the S :D

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33278820&postcount=18

bought a 1800mah from eBay.took me 15mins to install it and its working no problem. Just have to flip the battery around so the side with the logo and writing is facing the inside. All the wires match up exactly.

Took this pics with my tablet,, sorry for the quality.

Hmm, someone on XDA made a very good point, if we can fit the X battery in, then we will also be able to fit the X+ battery in! :D

Imagine the battery life of the one S then (coming from 1650mAh to 2100mAh!), should be able to hit 7, maybe even 8 hours on screen time  Who knows maybe even more! :p

Will definitely be taking my S apart to do that.

is there online guide to taking it apart? and wheres the best place to get this X+ battery?

How long would that take to charge my One S takes about 3 hours+ if completely flat

Yup a video guide here:

Best place probably be from some site like directfix or ebay. Although the one X+ isn't available yet, so there won't be any of those batteries for sale yet.

No idea, probably would take longer.
