*** The official HTC One S thread ***

The grey version is apparently quite slippy :p especially compared to the black model.

I had a quick play with one in the shop but it was attached to the charging/security thing so couldn't properly "hold" it.

As for battery life, yup it is better than the X, however, it isn't just because it's "dual core", but more due to the new tech./gen of the CPU etc. so more power efficient etc. and yeah the screen is less power consuming unless you have white backgrounds on all the time :p Check the last few pages of this thread to see about battery life comparisons.

Quad in theory should be better, but with the current tech./gen compared to the krait dual core in the S, it isn't.

Are you going to be getting a case? Cause if you are then the case mate tough sounds perfect for you, makes it a bit thicker and has a lot more "grip" to it than a "naked" S.

Ref battery I am on;

28%

11hrs40

3hrs screen time.

One X that is. Pretty damn good, a lot better than my desire. That's with me playing with it, texting, phone calls, browsing the web etc.

Battery life on the One X is fine, coming from someone who was VERY worried about battery life.

That's good then :D

Like mentioned above, out of interest what is your brightness set at?

That is pretty good for the X given the screen, but as said brightness %?

Also was wifi on constantly or mobile network or was there no internet connection at all?

Screenshots are better for showing battery related stuff! :p

Yeah I tried before and after putting the case on, I was told that I sounded fine but not as quite clear or loud with the case off and I also tried another mobile to hear what it was like for myself and I would say the same as well , quite hard to tell the difference though, so not a massive issue but still, I am pretty sure that there should be a hole there.......

Up to you, give it a test with the case off and on and see what the difference is like for you.

I will probably cut a hole there as well. Looking at the tools to see what the best way of doing it is, either a stanley knife, proper puncher (for shoe laces), puncher tool kit (have a certain size of points and stretch the rubber on a bit of wood and give a firm hit on the head with a hammer to cut the piece of siliconeout ) or possibly the drill...........

I too have one of those hole cutter tool things for leather belts and such, which will be just the job. I'll test and see if it's needed first.

Got a reply regards the mobile connection strength issue from HTC. The tech support lady suggested doing a reset but other than that if it's within 28 days take it back and have it exchanged? Hard reset I have done with no effect. Not overly confident swapping the handset will resolve the issue. Not been the experience of the one or two I've read about elsewhere.

It does occasionally lose the date connection then reconnects with an 'R' (roaming). There is no data but presume I can make a call. Doesn't generally stay like that long and only done it in our house. I was led to believe that Three UK don't use anyone else's network now? Anyway, all this on the back of a good Three signal here. Out in the yard things seem better?

Typical response then........... :p

I would send the lady an email back linking to the thread on XDA where quite a few people seem to be having problems and see what she says then, it will at least make them aware that there does seem to be problem regarding the signal and possibly look into it in more detail then.

Hmm hard to say really, maybe it is just a poor antenna design......if it works outside fine.

My last charge, usage was about 30 min of browsing, over 40 photos were taken, about 15 mins of games (angry birds space, N64 ROMs), a few quick phone calls, a couple of texts, 10-15 min of video streaming, installing and uninstalling a few apps, weather syncing every 2 hours, general usage as in messing about :p and screen brightness set to about 40-50%

I imagine that the camera took a lot of power yet it doesn't show on the usage chart

EDIT:

And wifi was on 24/7 as well.

Do you not find the screen a bit dull at zero brightness? IMO it sort of defeats the purpose of a great screen for colours then, especially for the X's screen! :p

Did you have wifi on or mobile network or no connection at all?

Going to order a MHL adapter tonight I think. There isn't much too choose from though :(

Only costing about £8 as well so......

Will try to get a video demonstrating that sometime in the next week :)

Find it fine, and don't always have it set to it. Like when I was out I put it on 80%. I would say it was on 0 for half the usuage.

I used both wifi and mobile network during the day, also played a lot of draw something some youtube and a lot of messaging. Prob 50+ texts/emails.

I reckon when I get over the O new phone stage it will get better.

Most detailed case review ever!!

I'm not really a fan of the tough cases, but they do provide a pretty high level of drop protection at the expense of making the phone look a bit nasty.

I'd like to see a proper test of it though. Go to your nearest Tesco car park and attempt a rugby style throw as far as you can. :p

So tempted by this as a Vodafone upgrade to my HTC legend.
It's a 2 year contract tho at £20 a month and I'm a bit nervous about early reports of home screen glitches signal dropouts and paint chipping.
Surely HTC wouldn't release a phone with like this without thorough testing would they?

Also not everyone is experiencing those problems, I have had no problems with the signal or black chipping issue apart from around the USB port and I shouldn't either now that I have a tough case on.

And what are the home screen glitches? Haven't see anything mentioned about that unless you mean the home screen reloading, which apparently only happens if you have fast boot enabled or you disable apps (or you mean the screen flickering problems, which only some of the X users are experiencing), besides there are many better launchers out there on the market than sense :)
