*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Also not everyone is experiencing those problems, I have had no problems with the signal or black chipping issue apart from around the USB port and I shouldn't either now that I have a tough case on.

And what are the home screen glitches? Haven't see anything mentioned about that unless you mean the home screen reloading, which apparently only happens if you have fast boot enabled or you disable apps (or you mean the screen flickering problems, which only some of the X users are experiencing), besides there are many better launchers out there on the market than sense :)

These glitches

Anyone notice that it takes a while for emails (gmail) to come through?

When I receive an email, I get an instant update on my firefox gmail tab and my Samsung Spica notifies me a few seconds later, where as with the S, it takes at least 3 minutes or more till the notification comes through.

Not a huge issue but an annoying little niggle........

Not sure if this is just a problem with the gmail app or sense. Can't see it being a problem with the phone/hardware :p

Damn those shots are nice.

I'm thinking it's between this and the SGS 2 for my new phone. Opinions guys? Going to check them out in a store some time early next week as it doesn't seem like much difference specs wise.

Camera, browsing and skype (chat) will probably be my main uses.

If you want better 1080P video recording, better support on XDA for custom ROMs etc., better battery life using the extended battery and more storage then the GS 2.

The one S is better for camera overall, screen, build and perceived quality, faster and smoother, better internal components especially the processor, software, audio and better battery life out of the box.

But as always the best thing to do is play with both for a while in the shop and see, which one you like the most :)

For your uses that you listed there, both are great for those areas, although the sense browser is the best browser that I have used yet, even better than all the 3rd party ones on the market IMO and the one S with sense has a lot more features for the camera/video recording.

EDIT:

You can check my review of the One S out here:

Fair enough. After reading all the threads on here that seemed to be the general idea. Should get into town on tuesday and have a play :)

Coming from an LG kc910 so i think any of them will make me extremely happy :p

The affordablemobiles half price line rental contracts seem like the best deals? I use virtually no minutes so if anyone knows any better deals would be good.

Well, this means that I'm totally recording everything in slow motion now.

:D

One S unless storage is an issue.

Yeah massive :D I had that on a 2 year contract and ive just been milling around since july not knowing what to get (nor having any money. finally got my rental deposit back :p)

That link doesn't seem to work

Storage isn't an issue.

Well, I can't see any areas where the Galaxy S II beats the One S for your uses. The One X is more expensive and the gains probably aren't worth it if money is a factor.

It's always wise to go and try everything in a shop but I would be genuinely shocked if you came back and said you thought the Galaxy S II was nicer. :p

As for deals, you know how much minutes/data/texts you want, so look here:

and here: http://www.buymobilephones.net/mobile-phones/HTC/HTC-One-S/85,99198,All,tt1,ct1

I don't think you'll find any better than what are there.

Yeah just realised that I linked you to the basket :o

The best deal (a few weeks ago and may still be if you don't mind T-mobile) is on a 24 month contract, at £21 a month for 100 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of data

Last screenshots regarding battery life from me:

Usage; about 20-30 minutes of web browsing, wifi on constantly, fair bit of texting, couple of youtube videos, a lot of camera/video recording usage, around 25+photos using some of the effects were taken and about 10-15 minutes of 1080P and slow motion footage followed by editing and watching it back, about 20 minutes of games (angry birds space and N64 ROM emulator), installing/uninstalling apps, snowstorm syncing every 2 hours, general messing about and finally brightness was mostly at 40%, about 10 minutes or so on 70%

Wouldn't this just be a case of when the respective phone syncs with your google account?
So if there is 5 more minutes before the sync the email wont appear before 5mins?

Not for gmail, as soon as emails are sent to my gmail account, they should be "pushed" to the mobile as well.

Had a look in settings to make sure and I couldn't see anything regarding syncing every 2 minutes, hour etc. except how many emails from a certain time period sync over to the mobile, which is set to 30 days.

It is weird though, today I received an email and as usual my spica notified me straight away yet I waited for several minutes for the s to notify me but it didn't, so I woke the device up and the email icon was in the notification bar...........

Never heard the sound and the mobile didn't vibrate

Just sent myself another email at 12.53 (forever alone.jpg :p), this time with the device awake and the email only just came through at 13.01

Going to re-enable "friend stream" apps and widgets as well as HTC's mail app and widget to see if that is the reason, doubt it very much though..............

Hmm, re-enabled the friend stream and mail app and sent an email, the S notified me straight away at the same time as the spica, but I tried it again and back to waiting again......
