*** The official HTC One S thread ***

My understanding may be wrong but surely your phone can't be constantly synched to your Google account or your battery usage and data would go through the roof. Therefore it must be based on a time period i.e syncs every 2 mins or so, but with it being an Android phone this isn't a setting you can change?

The idea of push is that your email provider sends a signal to your phone, not the other way round. So your phone doesn't constantly check, it waits to receive a signal and then downloads the relevant information.

It isn't constantly syncing and checking for emails as it is gmail/google account, whatever you do on your account be it on the PC or mobile automatically changes on every device that is using the google account, it "pushes" those changes etc. Emails should be "pushed" to the android mobiles as soon as they are sent pretty much not "synced" every few minutes and same goes for contact changes etc.

I have looked at both my spica and S again to see if there are any settings for the time period to sync/update and I can't see anything in the gmail app or the account settings, however, on the stock email app on my spica and I think the HTC mail app for say hotmail etc. they has an option to set a period time where it checks for new emails every minute or whatever.

Could any other S owners confirm if they have the same problem please.

I've been sending a few mails now and again to test this, and on average they are coming through to the X quicker than the Galaxy S II now.

Very strange. Perhaps it's a Gmail issue?

No, too much hassle creating a new email account with google :p Will give it a shot later though.

Yup it is using the @gmail.com address, how do I change to the @googlemail.com version?

May also just try the HTC mail app for gmail and see how that works out for notifications.

As I said it isn't a huge issue as the emails come within 10 minutes or so but it is an annoying niggle.

Go into Settings > Accounts, remove the Google account and re-add it but using @googlemail.com instead. I know it helped with sync issues on some ICS ROMs for older phones.

Ok thanks :)

Will give that a go later on and see.

Seems to be a very weird issue, there are times when it notifies me straight away and then most of the time takes about 3-7 minutes.

Try setting up K9 mail with a Gmail IMAP. That will help you figure out whether it's the stock app, or your Gmail account (or I suppose your phone!). Do you have another IMAP account that supports Push email?

Will try that out as well, thanks :)

Nope I don't.

I can't see how this is a problem with the phone and I hope it isn't (not too bothered if it was as I do receive the emails, just not instantly :p), I receive phone calls, texts straight away, so if it was a problem with the phone itself then I think they would be affected as well......

Going to give everything a try later on :)

Does anyone know if HTC have any planned updates for the S?

The X has had 2 now iirc, granted their seemed to be a few more issues with the X than the S, but looking at XDA it appears that there are quite a few semi serious problems (thankfully I haven't experienced them *touch wood*) regarding signal, wifi amongst a few other things and I can't see any word from HTC at all regarding a software update apart from the usual replies "we are looking into it".

Really hope that they don't abandon this phone and put all their efforts/resources towards the X, otherwise I will be rooting and flashing a custom ROM sooner than I thought..........

Have had to arrange an exchange for a new One S.

Mobile internet stopped working this morning, and I've done everything I can think of and then done it again whilst on the phone to support.

So I've got a replacement One S coming on Wednesday morning and I have to hand my old phone to the courier to send back to TMobile.

MHL adapter order placed, hopefully get it in the next few days.

Martin fields screen protector pre-ordered!

Total cost around £20

Will post a video demonstrating the MHL adapter with the HTC one S connected to a 42" HD TV in the next week or so.

The issue isn't so much how quickly we get the updates, more so just the level of importance for devices and lack of communication.

The one X has had 2 updates so far, which fix problems and improve certain areas that also apply to the other one series mobiles e.g. better accuracy for battery usage etc.

The S has plenty of issues as well, which could/may be fixed by a software patch e.g. the signal, wifi, multi-tasking issues (I haven't had a problem with them though, but many owners appear to be experiencing issues).

It isn't so much that they haven't released the updates, just more that they haven't announced anything at all apart from the usual replies like "we are looking into it" and "an update is coming".........no detail at all.

I am guessing the reason is because the device isn't popular at all really, many forums e.g. androidforums have hardly any threads/posts each day for the one S thread, very little interest in the developing community at XDA, think we only have like 1 or 2 guys working on CM 9, so HTC probably think why bother...... and of course the X being the flagship device so most of their time/money is going to be going into it :(

Maybe it is too early to say :o But so far I am not impressed with the whole situation regarding communication, granted at least it doesn't seem to be as bad as google lately with the galaxy nexus and signal issues etc.
