*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Well tbh my battery life has improved and no real issues for me that are a deal breaker. Sadly though my Mao coating is now starting to show small signs of chipping, so I guess its off to HTC for a replacement shell.

I have Google now turned of and it still isn't as good :(
I take it the power saver is a hHTC thing and not a Jellybean thing? Maybe its worth running that with just the cpu saver on? I'm just thinking with the extra cpu that Jellybean uses to make it smoother, maybe it needs something to calm it down a bit.:p

Yup a HTC thing :(

As sarge said before, it won't do much at all. Worth a try though if you want. I might just give it a shot just for the sake of it :p

I think this is just a problem with 4.1.1 and is fixed with 4.1.2 though.

Just tried out a USB flash drive and it works! NTFS format isn't detected so have to use FAT etc. instead.

Can't see an option in order to see the files/videos etc. in estrongs, however, the pictures, videos are shown in the gallery and music is shown in the music player, also can see media files in BS player.

Might not get a video demonstrating it done tonight, so hopefully get one up tomorrow instead :)

EDIT:

NTFS drives might work with this:

But............. you need root :(

Right my 4s won't even type without lagging out now, turning it off and on doesn't fix it and i'm fed up waiting for the Nevergonnashow 4 from google.

Nexus - Where can I get the One S cheap... or failing that a one X?

For the one S, your best bet is ebay, cheap, guaranteed to get a S4 version.

If you really want to avoid ebay then probably this here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/HTC-One-Sim...G6IE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356725169&sr=8-1

It says the S4 1.5GHz version, however, I would contact them to be sure as people have ordered from the same and said they got the S3 chipset iirc......

Unfortunately many of the top places have stopped selling the S or are a rip off.

For the one X, I would avoid ebay as the X had a lot of issues with screen flex etc. and so you're likely to get one with problems if buying second hand.

Thus, the cheapest is about £350

What are the things i should know about this handset? Ive read the reviews on techradar and it seems pretty solid, and ive been informed of the s3 vs s4 handsets.

It was between this and the Nexus 4, and since im getting them at similar prices this seems to be the winner. Is that a fair assumption?

Firstly, I'll let you know the main problems (doesn't apply to everyone though)

- if you get the black model, you might have chipping issues due to the MAO layer, HTC brought out a new design, which has smoother edges, a bevelled USB port and so doesn't chip by itself now, I have had my S since April (when it came out) and the old design and have no chipping issues apart from the USB port

The grey model does not have this problem, it has an anodized aluminium finish.

- signal issues, some people are experiencing weaker signal than other mobiles, again though this varies, I am on o2 and have no problems with signal, full bars most of the time, if you already have weak signal then you probably will encounter problems.

- with the JB update, some are experiencing poor battery life now (however, this is a problem with 4.1.1 and was fixed with 4.1.2 iirc) It still gets me through the day though.

Comes down to personal preference in the end, both are good, there is no clear winner, as I posted in the N4 thread:

Aside from a better NLED, better chipset and 1GB more RAM, nexus device so good support, the N4 isn't twice as good as the S in everything, a large part of it comes down to personal preference.

- Build/perceived quality and design of the N4 isn't as good as the one S IMO and I imagine the majority of others would agree, aluminium uni-body with a MAO finish and 2 small bits of plastic on the back at the top and bottom VS glass back and plastic
- For some, a SAMOLED screen is better, the sole reason I am not getting a nexus 4 is due to the screen after reading the majority of user reviews and seeing kona's pics. Rather have the SAMOLED qHD over a HD LCD screen any day, same reason why kona and others aren't going to move to the nexus 4 from the GS 3. The only advantage of the nexus 4 screen for me would be the sharpness and size
- camera is better in every area on the S
- one S runs cooler and is put together better
- one S now supports USB OTG

Audio is more or less the same according to gsmarena's test.

Battery life is a tricky one as the nexus 4 should be one of the best phones there is for battery life but unless you tweak and turn stuff of, it is very poor (it will be fixed/improved with updates though but the question is when?) and with the JB update on the S, my battery has got worse (but iirc this is a problem with 4.1.1 and is fixed in 4.1.2), it was much better with ICS and only truly beaten by the likes of the note II, RAZR i, RAZR maxx etc. although others have said that theirs has improved with JB....

Software skin is personal preference, I rather have sense, the only thing I like about stock is the holo theme throughout.

Design is personal preference, I prefer the one S design.

Real world performance, there isn't going to be much if any difference now between them now (the S4 version) that the one S has JB. I can't see any form of lag/micro stutter on my S, everything has got a lot more snappier and smoother now. The nexus 4 will have better multi-tasking due to stock android and an extra GB of RAM. There is little to no benefit of having an additional 2 cores.
SAMOLED:

blacks are black, vibrant/saturated colours, infinite contrast ratio, better viewing angles

not as good whites, bit pixelated when you look closely, not as sharp on the whole

VS

SLCD/IPS

natural colours (although seems to be a lot of mixed opinions on the colours, some say they are too washed out, others say it is as good as the X etc.), better whites, sharper and clearer on the whole

Poor black levels (but then again every LCD is poor when compared to sAMOLED), mixed opinions on viewing angles but the general consensus seems to be not great

I was reading another thread about relative phones & benchmarks.
I am genuinely gob-smacked.
Just ran a couple of bench tests and can't believe how bloody quick this Mid spec phone actually is.

As for chipping issues on the black; I use my phone all the time including for work, a lot of that work involves site installations.
I have it it in a leather flip case, but so far the only chipping is where i dropped it onto a concrete floor from my ladders, I was surprised the screen did not break as the alu corner was flattened.
