*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Oh, does anyone else use a pin lock on their phone? I hate the new keyboard /number layout argh!

Doubt it would save any power, probably use more due to the constant change in brightness.

And yes that is another thing I don't like! Might change to the pattern lock now.

Auto brightness is much better for sure! No where as bright for every condition now and doesn't seem to be as sensitive I. E. Change every time the lighting conditions slightly changes, will use it instead of manual control now.

I know! Surely if it's a pin then it'll be a 4 digit number - no need for all the extra characters on the right hand side. Might try a pattern out too but I'm dubious on how secure it is...

Thanks for the quick rundown in regards to the advantages and disadvantages of JB running on the HOS Nexus.

I hope that the battery drain gets better, maybe it's a placebo effect?

Oh why oh why do they need to mess with the font sizes FFS!

Utter morons:/
Its almost like they deliberately want to annoy now a days

Not sure, will monitor it over the next few days and see, but so far it is definitely draining quicker.

Wish someone would sell the X+ (2040mAh) battery already!

IIRC though, I think this was a problem with 4.1.1 and fixed in 4.1.2

You talking about the text messages?

Pinch to zoom out. Should put it back to the way it was originally.

Phew! saved me there,

The green is still a little anemic for my liking.
Do you ever wonder why they change little things like pointlessly?

It should be blue now! (with the default sense theme)

You can change the background, outgoing/incoming bubble colours if you want now, in the settings of the SMS app.

And yes I do! :p :(

seems HD movie recording auto-focus is a bit buggy, seems to try and re-focus too much.
Anyone else noticed this ?

Not really used 1080P recording yet, but the auto focus was always a bit iffy with ICS I found especially in low light conditions....

Also another great improvement with JB/sense V4+ is the battery usage chart, seems to be much more accurate and actually shows everything that uses battery i.e. the camera! No matter how much I used the camera on ICS, it never showed in the usage chart.

Task manager is much better to, shows everything rather than just a few things and the UI is better.

BTW, for the notification tray, the extended view when you pinch to zoom, is there any way to keep this "extended" by default, rather than always having to pinch to zoom? Had a look but can't see an option at all :( Can't remember, but is it like this on other phones that have JB?

Absolutely loving how much smoother and snappier the software is now! Apart from nova launcher (and even then it is very rare and literally minor stutter, which most people wouldn't notice), I can not see any type of stutter/lag at all, really is like butter!

Nova is too good to give up now! :p Plus with the last 3 or so versions of apex, I encountered like glitchy artefacts when scrolling :/

Might give it a try later anyway though.......

EDIT:

Regarding the expanded notifications:

It's up to the developers. For example, battery widget reborn let you choose what to do.

On other phones\tablets the first notification is always expanded by default. The sad thing is that the power saver notification will always be the first notification.
Try long press on the power saver's notification, then force close it. You'll see that the second notification(now first) it will be expanded(if it's a "jelly bean notification").
Note: The power saver notification will return when you turn off\on the display

It's a Jelly Bean thing.

Take a screen shot and it will appear much larger than they used too, you can shrink it with either a two fingered swipe or a single finger gesture depending on what version of JB you've got (single finger appeared in 4.1.2).

Ugh.

Helicoptering on Edge and that Wifi strength problem have returned (constantly cycling through bars)

Hurry up with that Nexus 4 stock Google!

Regarding the expanded notifications:

Same with the beats audio notification. Before it was stand alone app you could disable, now it's part of Android system :(
I think power.apk could be removed/renamed without breaking anything (requires root) but you'd loose all that battery use monitor, fast boot option etc and you'd still have the issue when you've got headphones plugged in.

Absolutely loving how much smoother and snappier the software is now!

The HOS has always been 'max refresh rate' smooth and snappy. Animations have been improved/refined a little, maybe your picking up on that?
App compatibility could cause some performance changes too

Thank god I don't have that "helicoptering" issue, would truly drive me insane and make me throw it out the window!

Wifi seems fine for me so far, no different.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to loose the battery stuff and besides, cba to root etc. :p I can see htc including an option to be able to remove it from the notification tray in the next update, hopefully........... :p

And thank goodness that I don't really listen to music on my phone then! :p

Yup, it has always been the snappiest and smoothest phone that I have used without a doubt, but with JB it just got so much more snappier and smoother (probably is just an improvement in animations...) especially sense stuff. I could notice micro stutter/bits of lag in things like the play store when scrolling down or up and some other apps (very minor) but now all of that is gone and for example with eye in the sky on ICS, it was always a bit slow, took like a second to change tabs (when tapped on) or open, now it is instant. The smoothness may just be down to the difference in the screen touch/response as well now, it seems more responsive and not as sensitive when scrolling. BTW I am using 0.5x for the animation etc. timings in the developer options and stock google animation speed in nova.

Although at first the phone wasn't as smooth as it is now, seems to have gotten smoother over the last 1-2 days, I know it sounds crazy and not possible but a few others have noticed the same thing :p :o Probably just the cache stuff?

The battery is definitely worse though! Having to charge it every 19-24 hours now and have yet to hit 4 hour on screen mark :(

Yeah I'm not digging the battery life at all. I've been on the move and browsing a fair bit though so now I'm home I'll be able to get a better picture. I'm thinking Google Now is the culprit.

Eg. Normally if I charge right before I go to bed my phone would normally last until the next night easily. A nice 24hrs. I charged it the night before last, and last night it was down to 5% before 10pm!

Also, it was fully charged about 1130pm last night so I unplugged when I went to bed. Woke up at 9am this morning and it was on 86%! Huh?! I had data connection left on but I'm pretty sure nothing was syncing..

And the battery seems to take about 5mins to go from 15% down to 5%?
