*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Went a step further than doing a factory reset - updated Android firstly from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 then to JB. Factory reset and camera retest in between each upgrade - no major difference to the photos. If anything the pics were a *little* better but then that's checking under daylight instead of halogens. With the halogens on and me standing between the window and the photo subject - same problem, far too red. Even with the contrast and saturation turned down, anything white or brown-ish has a pinkness to it that's just not realistic, so it's going back :(

Got another One S today. Is it just the T-Mobile ones or do they all just have cameras that are too heavily balanced to red? The pics from this one aren't as bad as the first one but seriously they're just not great. Nowhere near as good as my One X. Admittedly the S screen is warmer coloured but not by so much it would make the image suck.

Not sure, could be due to T-mobile putting stuff on the phones, which is conflicting with the camera.... no idea really :p :(

Is it the S4 or S3 version that you are getting?

I have followed pretty much every single one S forum and haven't seen anyone have any problems with a red tint, confused as to why you have been unlucky. Have you tried messing with the settings? What about changing the "scenes" to the appropriate settings?

Maybe try a 3rd party camera app just too see what the outcome is like, I found camera mx and snap camera to be pretty good.

How is the camera for other conditions?

Had one of each, and first one was Z560E, this one is a Z520E. First one had the atrocious camera and screen that was pretty much the same as my One X, and this has a slightly better camera but warmer screen. It's also still on ICS 4.0.3, waiting for the battery to charge then going to update and see what happens. Bloomin fast charging on it I'll give it that!

screen pretty much the same as your one X?!?! :p

Hopefully the JB update will sort it out.......

Yeah it does charge pretty quickly! lol. Although takes forever connected to USB ports on the PC!!!

Lol I meant the colour temp of the screen. My X is one that has the cooler whiter white..

JB update has improved things in terms of photos. Colours still warmer than my X but that could be the screen. Auto focus is much slower than my X and the images seem unfocused but colours but then I still have the HTC screen film on it lol. Bluetoothing some pics to my X to see how they look on that.

Ah, I see! :p

Most likely, SAMOLED and SLCD/IPS are very different! With the one X, photos will look more natural with regards to colours.

Lol yeah the screen film will impact quality/focus :p

"If" removing it doesn't help then perhaps it is due to the S3 CPU.... could try a factory reset to see if it improves the speed etc.

Another thing that you could try, is the auto fix feature in the stock gallery, can make a really nice difference for a lot of the photos.

Thanks will try the auto fix. Pics on the S are warmer and I think less focused but they are passable. Will see what they look like on a bigger screen in a bit. And see what my wife thinks tomorrow.

Amazing how two phones with the same hardware and software produce such different results. By accident I took a snap of my kitchen in the pitch black, literally the only light was the flash and the S was much better than the X. Much less noise. And the front camera on the S is infinitely better than my X, puts it to shame. Makes it look like my X is Vga compared to 720p on the S.

The chipset seems to play a pretty big part in camera quality (not just the physical side but the driver/software optimisation) too when you compare the XL/S to the X and the USA GS 3 to the international GS 3, you wouldn't really think otherwise though due to the camera lens, sensor being the same!

What?! What the hell kind of one S/X do you have!?!?! :p Your one X "should" have a much better front camera, iirc it is 1.2MP/720P where as the one S is VGA :o

According to the specs, you're right. But looking at the screens, it's more like the other way round. When the S3 first came out and I compared the front camera on mine to a friends S3 he was shocked at how bad my front camera was, and so was I. Can't really even use it for Skype it's that bad.

finally jumped ship from my one s and given it to the mrs! not much of an upgrade but wanted to try windows 8 os. And went for the similarly specced htc 8x

haha :D im actually liking the simplicity! :p i don't feel the need to download mods, or launchers, or new icons etc. Its been a good experience so far though ! I do miss the S's slenderness though ;)

Yeah I am pretty impressed with windows too (from using the lumia 800), not too keen on the tile layout homescreen but I like the rest of the UI throughout i.e. SMS, dialer/contacts etc. Far nicer and better than iOS in the design/UI department! How are you finding the app store?

Nexus18, would you consider SV over S? I know it has lower specs, but it does have removable battery and micro-sd slot.

The app store is a bit bland ! But I guess its a growing os. So you gotta give it some time. But tbh all I use is Facebook and whatsapp anyways. While both apps aren't flawless they're good enough for my everyday use :p

Depends, is storage/SD slot and removable battery that important to you? If not, then I would still get the one S.

The SV looks like a great phone but the outdated res., not running JB yet (and I can't see it being supported too well by the XDA community and HTC) and not as good camera would put me of personally. Not to mention that it has been confirmed the one S will be getting sense V5, no word on the SV yet.

Yeah that is the only really weak point so far, hopefully it will start to pick up over the next few months as iirc quite a few big apps have come out recently.

Taken the rock case of, just can't stand using a case on this phone :p

Have tried the "sharpie" trick out and it has actually done a pretty good job of covering the wee nicks, only notice it under certain lighting conditions now. Wonder how long it will be till it wears of though......

Can't wait for sense V5, shame that it will probably be like 6 months till the S gets it though :p :o

Hmm, think my phone may be broke with regards to signal, either that or something wrong with o2 in my area (parents are on tesco mobile [lumia 800] though and they are getting more or less full bars..........).

Wonder if the drop has anything to do with it, damage only coming around now probably? :(

Signal is a lot weaker than usual the past 3 or so days, signal cutting out an awful lot i.e. go downstairs and I get no signal at all, phone calls are going/not clear, speakers on my PC are making that noise (like when you have a text or call coming through)not good :(

Will give it another few days and see, if no change, I'll try a factory reset and if that doesn't fix it then I'll see about getting it sent of to HTC.
