*** The official HTC One S thread ***

Yep, there's a lot of ifs and buts. I'm fine with what I've got currently but can't help having a look over the hedge :D There's a lot of hype surrounding what Motorola are going to come up with next regards X or Ghost, but have a feeling we are setting ourselves up to be disappointed  Time will tell.

Not really read much about the new One phone radio is like? Are they any better? It is the one thing Moto seem to do well. Will the 'mini' One (M4) have an aluminium body and will its radio be any better than the One S, not to mention all you spec Nexus :D

I have sort of lost interest in the X phone now due to this:

too many rumours that are just too good to be true and unfortunately these days, hype seems to be one of the main key points to generate sooooo much interest and promise but actually fails to deliver come the time i.e. the GS 4 overall and the htc one camera imo, neither have exactly been as revolutionary as what Samsung and HTC made out and given that we haven't actually had any proper info aside from a few photos of the X, it just doesn't fill me with confidence, surely if they have a truly epic device then we would be seeing some more "concrete" evidence about all these "amazing/revolutionary features"??

I am just expecting something similar to the GS 4/HTC one and perhaps be priced a bit lower than them......

From reading user opinions here, it seems much better, iirc quite a few said that it was better than their iphone 5 etc.

Brian (top anandtech reviewer) found it to be very good:

The HTC one mini will have the same machined body as the HTC one so yes it will/should be better than the one S. It has been confirmed that it will have the ultrapixel camera and front stereo speakers :D And it seems that it will definitely be 4.3" 720P screen (just not sure on what type of screen) and then dual core (not sure which, probably just the S4) with 2GB RAM (plenty of power for the majority of tasks, only area where there might be some slow down is when it comes to the demanding games), 1,700mAh battery and 16GB internal storage, if they have a SLCD 3 screen or the newest SAMOLED panel then battery life should be pretty damn good......

Thanks ill try but i doubt ill get pictures as good as that.

Best to just experiment/mess around really and take multiple shots of the same thing and then choose the best one later.

Burst mode (hold the shutter button down) works nicely too especially for moving objects or/and if you don't have a steady hand :p

There are some good guides out there, I found quite a few useful tips from this site:

EDIT:

Forgot the most important thing :p

Make sure the camera lens is clean!

I'm wondering about it myself and admit to being a bit of a Motorola fanboy ;) Too many articles about sort of backtracking saying the X (Ghost) may not be quite as good as we've been led to believe. It could only be average at best the way things are going. If it is then retail take up of it in the UK will be poor. I'm not worried as the Razr i will keep me going for some time. I'll see what develops

Not the biggest of batteries but as you say depends on which panel they go with.

Interesting regards signal and there is hope after all :D I used to have an early HTC Desire and it never had signal issues being very similar to my current razr i. From photos of the HTC M4 doing the rounds it looks quite nice

I have a funny feeling that they will go with SLCD 2 (the one X display), not necessarily a bad thing but it would have been great to have the more power efficient SLCD 3 display especially when the battery isn't much bigger than the one S battery :(

Yup HTC worked wonders with the antenna and metal body on the one

This is my 1st post so be gentle please! got my hands on a htc one sv as a stop gap until i got my htc one BUT after falling in love with the sv its the right size and cant bear to part with it.

got my htc one and it just seems huge but my word the speakers and screen are amazing on the htc one

Yeah i think it could be i cant believe how good the sv lte feels in the hand until i got my htc one and i couldnt wait to get back to it. Im used to iphones etc so maybe its the size thing.

The fact i can take the back off put in a 32gb sd card and bigger battery is a winner right now! is 4.2.2 coming out on this or sense 5 as i must be the only guy who likes blinkfeed lol:D

Most likely, you do get use to the size though so give it a few days with the one ;) Generally once you go to a bigger sized screen, it is very hard to go back to anything smaller then :p

Not sure about the SV, the one S is getting it around June/July so I imagine that the SV will, however, probably not till a bit later in the year.....

im waiting on the smaller version of the htc one

at the moment i miss my htc one s so thinking of buying one as a stop gap

its that or the htc one xl (struggling to find out on the web how well the battery copes on the xl)

i still think the one s is soo underated and i am prepared to stump up 175 for a second hand one i love it that much

cracked out my htc desire z today and took about 3 hours to follow the guide and put cm10

surprising how well it runs really :-)

True ive sent the one back because it had a dead pixel and the speakers were crackly and the edges were very rough but its amazing in black

Ah, unlucky :(

IIRC the M4/mini one is coming around summer time, not confirmed yet.

Battery life is pretty damn epic on the one XL, iirc it performs better than the one S by a bit.

And +1!!!

Having a look at the GS 4 and one today, the one S held its own in a few areas still (obviously screens are much better on those 2 phones though :p) especially in the performance area, whilst there are definitely some really nice improvements with both devices, there aren't enough advantages and in a few, they aren't much, if any better therefore imo not worth £400+ when coming from the likes of the one S, X etc.

you definetly sure about battery life on the xl?

everything i have read has been people moaning about it

i was quite happy with the htc one s battery wise

got my finger on the buy it now button

Not 100% sure about it "currently" but when reading about it when it first came out, people were getting similar/better battery life than what most of us were with our one S, maybe it has got worse with the latest update???

Don't base too much on the following as it doesn't give a good enough idea of real world usage and can often be completely wrong :p

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5779/htc-one-x-for-att-review/3

But it performs better than the S by quite a bit there.

I don't think it will be any worse than the one S at the very least, SLCD 2 is very power efficient especially with whites compared to SAMOLED, the one X was let down big time due to tegra 3 and poor software/driver optimisation with the chipset.

what was the outcome with the bigger battery in the end?

tempted to pick up a battered one and do the polishing of the phone body

Stopped following that a while ago, but iirc the one X+ etc. batteries worked fine, there was some fuss about there being a bit of a gap but iirc you just had to remove some plastic piece or something :p in order to get rid of the gap. However, apparently there isn't much, if any benefit to having a bigger battery as something about the drivers not allowing you to charge them fully. Thread has been quite active recently:

My S wasn't as good ever since the JB update (even with a factory reset), however, since doing a factory reset again in the last few months, it is much better, getting the usual 2 days with medium usage i.e. browsing mostly, camera usage, auto brightness, wifi most of the time etc. Not sure about screen on time but it would be at least 3 hours.

htc one xl on the way now

should be here tomorrow

will see how it compares to the one x, one s as i have owned them both
